All right, let's see how much I can remember without looking.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind **** America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the [bundle of sticks]got America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well, I tried...

Don't wanna be a Canadian idiot
Don't wanna be some beer-swillin' hockey nut
And do I look like some frostbitten hosehead?
I never learned my alphabet from A to Zed

They all live on donuts and moose meat
And they leave the house without packing heat
Never even bring their guns to the mall
And you know what else is too funny?
Their stupid Monopoly money
Can't take 'em seriously at all

Well, maple syrup and snow's what they export
They treat curling just like it's a real sport
They think their silly accent is so cute
Can't understand a thing they're talkin' aboot

Sure, they've got their national healthcare
Cheaper meds, low crime rates and clean air
Then again, well, they've got Celine Dion
Eat their weight in Kraft macaroni
And dream of drivin' a Zamboni
All over Saskatchewan

Don't wanna be a Canadian idiot
wont figure out the temperature in Celsius
See the map, they're hovering right over us
Tell you the truth, it makes me kinda nervous

Always hear the same kind of story
Break their nose, and they'll just say "Soorry!"
Tell me, what kinda freaks are that polite?
It's gotta mean they're all up to something
So quick, before they see it coming
Time for a pre-emptive strike

There may not be an answer to this tune
Why the sky is blue
Is the change in me all true
Now that you are next to me I have no fears
And all I know is that I want to be with you
Sometimes it's easy to
Forget the times we weep
The moment makes us weak
And all the shame I seek
Memories exist for all the precious days my heart still wants to keep
Somewhere deep inside of me

A lullaby for you
Don't you worry baby
I'll be here by your side
May tomorrow be wonderful too
Close to you I hope to stay
Endlessly from today
Even through cloudy days
You are not alone

Sweet dreams I do not see
'Cause darkness scares me
Is it because I'm still fifteen
Or the loneliness in me
Wish I may I wish I might
Sleep soundly through the windy nights
Just to dream of you tonight
A lullaby for you
Stars will always gracefully watch over 'till it's bright
May tomorrow be wonderful too
Take my hands and promise me
That we'll be all right
Finding a place to feel at home
You are not alone
Maybe I'll turn back to stay
Where I came from only yesterday
Whisper that the past is gone eternally

A lullaby for you
Don't you worry baby
I'll be here by your side
May tomorrow be wonderful too
Close to you I hope to stay
Endlessly from today
Even through cloudy days
You are not alone
You are not alone

If you're listening to this song
You may think the chords are going wrong
But they're not
He just wrote it like that

When you're listening late at night
You may think the band are not quite right
But they are, They just play it like that

It doesn't really matter what chords I play
What words I say or time of day it is
As it's only a Northern song.

It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear
Or how I fare or if my hair is brown
When it's only a Northern song.

If you think the harmony
Is a little dark and out of key
You're correct, Is nobody there
and I told you is no one there

What can I say? I aim to please.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
and it makes me wonder
really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, Ooh, it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can't you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all is one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying the stairway to heaven

I'm packed and I'm holding
I'm smiling, she's living, she's golden and
She lives for me, she says she lives for me
Ovation, she's got her own motivation
She comes round and she goes down on me
And I make her smile, It's like a drug for you
Do ever what you want to do
Coming over you
Keep on smiling
What we go through
One stop to the rhythm that divides you
And I speak to you like the chorus to the verse
Chop another line like a coda with a curse
And I come on like a freak show takes the stage
We give them the games we play, she said

I want something else to get me through this
Semi-charmed kind of life, baby, baby
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say goodbye

The sky it was gold, it was rose
I was taking sips of it through my nose
And I wish I could get back there
Some place back there
Smiling in the pictures you would take
Doing crystal myth
Will lift you up until you break
It won't stop
I won't come down, I keep stock
With a tick-tock rhythm and a bump for the drop
And then I bumped up. I took the hit I was given
Then I bumped again
And then I bumped again
How do I get back there to
The place where I fell asleep inside you?
How do I get myself back to
The place where you said

I want something else to get me through this
semi-charmed kind of life, baby, baby
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say goodbye

I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling
An earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And the four right chords can make me cry
When I'm with you I feel like I could die
And that would be all right,
All right, when the plane came in
She said she was crashing
The velvet it rips
In the city we tripped
On the urge to feel alive
But now I'm struggling to survive
The days you were wearing
That velvet dress
You're the priestess
must confess
Those little red panties
They pass the test
Slide up around the belly
Face down on the mattress
One
Now you hold me
And we're broken
Still it's all that I want to do
Feel myself with a head made of the ground
I'm scared but I'm not coming down
And I won't run for my life
She's got her jaws just locked now in smile
But nothing is all right
All right

I want something else
To get me through this semi-charmed kind of life, baby, baby
I want something else
I'm not listening when you say goodbye

Took the high dive into your brain
And you made your lonely calls
You just might wear your welcome out
If you don’t let it go
There’s nothing that you couldn’t say
'Cause you’ve said it all before
I think it’s time you walked this lonely road
all on your own

It’s your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart has already won

I wish I could take it away
And save you from yourself
You get so lost inside your head like no one else
Are you looking for someone to blame?
Did you blame me all along?
You’ll take the heat
But you would never take the fall

It’s your cold day in the sun
Looks like your bleeding heart has already won

You’re so afraid that you are the only one
You are the only one
You know

Don’t be afraid 'cause you’re not the only one
You’re not the only one
I know
If my son could decimate Lego cities with his genitals, I'd be [darn] proud.

Holly came from Miami, Fla.,
Hitchhiked her way across the USA.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her leg and then he was she - she said:

Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.

Candy came from out on the island,
In the backroom she was everybodys darling,
But she never lost her head
Even when she was given head - she said

Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
And the coloured girls go, doo dodoo...

Little Joe never once gave it away,
Ev'rybody had to pay and pay.
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York city is no place where they said:

Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.

Sugar plum fairy came and hit the streets
Looking for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo, you should have seen him go go go - they said:

Hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.

Jackie is just speeding away,
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash, Valium would have helped that bash - she said:

Hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
And the coloured girls go, doo dodoo...

This is my town
Watch your step if you come around
I don't think I know you
Well, maybe its time to show you
This is my home
I will be standing here alone
If you think you’re ready, well
Come on in and ring the bell

Hello, Mr. Hill, finally you got your hit
Coming from the nowheres, lying across the clovers
Hello, Lady Slick, did you pull another trick?
Beautiful makeover make the perfect couple
Did you know, things don't come easy so

This is my town
Watch your step if you come around
I don't think I know you
Well, maybe it’s time to show you
This is my home
I will be standing here alone
And if you think you’re ready, well
Come on in and ring the bell

Hello, shiny suit, hanging out in the neighborhood
You think you’re such a pro, you know you’re just a (pop) blow
Hello, charming ghost, have you made your final toast?
Everything you say is just to see what you can give
Did you know things don't come easy so

This is my town
Watch your step if you come around
I don't think I know you so
Maybe its time to show you
This is my home
I will be standing here alone
And if you think you’re ready, well
Come on in and ring the bell

Ballistic stranger, rearrange her
I think we're in blowup danger!

This is my town
Watch your step if you come around
I don't think I know you
Maybe it’s time to show you
This is my home
I will be standing here alone
And if you think you’re ready, well
Come on in and ring the bell

Ring the bell
Ring the bell
Ring the bell
Ring the bell
Ring the bell

Come on in
Come on in
Come on in
Come on in
Come on in…

This is the song that plays during the trap-setting montage in Home Alone 3, and for some reason I just decided to look it up, having watched that movie a lot as a kid (and it was on TV a few weeks ago, but I digress). Apparently, it's "My Town" by Cartoon Boyfriend, and neither the song nor the band is anywhere to be found on Wikipedia (which, I must confess, I tend to use as a barometer for the notoriety of something).

Wake up Maggie, I think I got something to say to you
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused but I feel I'm being used
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurt

The morning sun when it's in your face really shows your age
But that don't worry me none in my eyes you're everything
I laughed at all of your jokes my love you didn't need to coax
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home, just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul and that's a pain I can do without

All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding hand
But you turned into a lover and
mother what a lover, you wore me out
All you did was wreck my bed
and in the morning kick me in the head
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried anymore
You led me away from home 'cause you didn't want to be alone
You stole my heart, I couldn't leave you if I tried

I suppose I could collect my books and get on back to school
Or steal my daddy's cue and make a living out of playing pool
Or find myself a rock and roll band that needs a helpin' hand
Oh Maggie, I wish I'd never seen your face
You made a first-class fool out of me
But I'm as blind as a fool can be
You stole my heart but I love you anyway

Maggie, I wish I'd never seen your face
I'll get on back home one of these days

When you are happy with laughter to spare,
Fun is twice as fun with someone to share.
When you are lonely and full of despair
Things aren't half as bad when somebody cares.

Maybe now you have figured it out,
That's what bein' a friend is about.

When you're lookin' for a shoulder you can cry on,
(Won't you think about me?)
When you're lookin' for someone you can rely on,
(Don't you ever doubt me!)

I'll be there someway somehow,
That's what bein' friends is about!

When you grow restless and want room to breathe,
I will give you all the space that you need.
And when you're ready for my company,
I will come around, just call on me.

Maybe now you have figured it out,
That's what bein' a friend is about.

When you need someone who feels the way you do,
(Won't you think about me?)
Someone who can pick you up when you are blue,
(Don't you ever doubt me!)

I'll be there someway somehow,
That's what bein' friends is about!

I'm your friend, till the end
Count on me.

In the sunshine and the rain,
Paradise and back again.
Count on me.

Let me be a friend in need,
Let me be a friend indeed.
Count on me.

And if you ask me, you know that it's true;
There is not a thing that I will not do!
I'll follow you to the ends of the earth,
That's how much I think our friendship is worth!

Maybe now you have figured it out,
That's what bein' a friend is about.

When there's something that you just don't understand,
(Won't you think about me?)
I'll be more than glad to lend a helping hand.
(Don't you ever doubt me!)

I'll be there someway, somehow,
That's what bein friends is about!

(Tell me all your secrets)
I will swear to keep them

(Let me know your problems)
I will help you solve them.

(When your heart is aching)
I will stop it breaking.

(When you are in danger)
I am your guardian angel.

(I will stand beside you)
Be the one to guide you.

(When your dreams are crumblin')
Call me, I'll come runnin'.

That's what friends are all about.
