Video Game Chat / Re: It's almost here!!!

I have a Brawl party all planned after release, with my brother and some friends. We even already have the pizza pre-ordered. I hope I can fit in some practice brawls before the tournaments...

Video Game Chat / Re: What was your first non-Mario game?
« on: March 06, 2008, 12:44:46 PM »
The first videro games that I played were Pac-Man and ...that Tank game for the 2600 but to be honest...at the age of about three or four I wasn't exactly getting the most out of it. I played so many games before the age of even six or seven that I didn't get the total worth out of. It's hard to say those are my first games considering I barely remember them.I think the first game I OWNED that I really appreciated was Bases Loaded 2 or the TMNT Arcade game. And the first game that I was mature enough to comprehend completely? Legend of the Mystical Ninja, of course. That game still rocks. The N64 sequals didn't live up to my nostalgia, though....

Man, this is tough when you were a gamer from birth lol.

So, basically every other game in he genre is terrible? Well, no wonder Smash Bros is adding third party characters. Those com[anies can't even field a roster. Imagine a Sega Smah Bros. It'd be....50% Sonic characters and then obscureness like Samba de amigo and that kid from Decap attack. Actually, as a Sega fanboy from the nineties that's cool to ME but...

No, I mean if Smash Bros. fans didn't invent the word "main" in reference to your favorite character, then does that mean Nintend did?

I assumed he meant it came from other fans, that it's not SSB-exclusive. It's just a fighting game phrase. I could be wrong, though.

I was best in SSBM as: Luigi, Captain Falcon, Mario, Jiggypuff and Kirby. As far as Brawl, I'll probably be using Wario and Sonic a lot so hopefully I get good with them. Snake too, actually. I sometimes play with rules to the extantr of "winner keeps character, loser has to change". It forces character change and it's kind of fun when my friends would pick their best character and then lose and have to change.

Actually, I still believe the graphics on the Dreamcast are the CLEAREST I've seen on a system. Something about the lighting, I'm not sure what it is.

The next game should be....Mario...Jr.?

Tanooki, of course. Who doesn't want to be a living myth? It's like being a vampire, but cooler.

Also, plenty of pranks come to mind.

I think graphics matter, but I have an issue with the idea that graphic quality is in how technologically advanced a game is. SMW2 has great graphics and is beautiful today...same with Nights on the Saturn and a million other games that used great artwork and creativity as opposed to an advanced polygon rate or the like. Those are tools...you use them to make games look good, but it doesn't look good just BECAUSE. That's why so many PS1 games look ugly now, there wasn't any sense of artistic vision and the frame rates are horrible.

It would have better to have included someone else to rescue, but I assume that would have led to complaints of (whoever) not being playable.

Unless the game was reworked entirely to have Mario captured....

Mario Chat / Re: Your favorite Power-Ups in various Mario games
« on: August 26, 2007, 04:20:11 PM »
I guess Mario 3 is the game for me...it was probably when I really fell in love with Mario.(Well, his games.not HIM)So, those powerups are what really stand out.

I think what made the Shoe stand out is how rare it was....it was something you looked forward to seeing because you knew you could only find it in certain areas and that was it. It was special.
