Because things like having to spend hundreds of dollars and hours to play several grindy JRPGs about a group of spiky-haired, amnesiac, and/or emo teenagers are subjective, right?

I hope you realize that that question didn't make any sense. Besides that, so what if people want to play games you don't think are good?
Kind of like how I think shmups are cool once in a while but I'd never spend as much time and money playing them as you do because it's totally not worth it to me.
That was a joke.

*rolls eyes*

Not everyone sees Kingdom Hearts as a grindy game about emo teenagers. Yes, your opinion is subjective.

Those people are deluding themselves, then, because that's exactly what the Kingdom Hearts games are. Trying to say they aren't is like trying to say Neon Genesis Evangelion isn't an anime about giant robots, or that Milestone shooters don't all play the same. Even with all the philosophical stuff in the former and the different score systems in the latter, at the end of the day NGE is still about teenagers piloting large mechs to battle monsters, and Chaos Field, Radirgy, and Karous are all vertical-scrolling shmups involving ships with swords that can cancel bullets.

KH titles are in real time, though, so grinding is even more optional in KH titles than it is in other RPGs.  You can choose how much or how little you grind as you play through, because if you're skilled enough, you can make up for the lack of raw stats.

...I feel like I should apologize for derailing this thread so much.  I really didn't think mentioning KH in passing would spark such a debate (I also feel bad for bringing Jim into this, because he didn't do anything).

Real-time != skill-based. And it's still a stat-based JRPG. No matter what you think you might be able to do, you're not going to be able to do enough damage with your attacks to take down a level fifty boss if you're level thirty. Which means grinding. (As I've said before, 358/2 Days is an exception here, because it actively discourages grinding in various ways, and really is largely skill-based.)

Also, I think Kingdom Hearts discussion fits well in this thread, considering how angsty some of its characters are.

JRPGS suck because anime and Disney both suck.

I've played and beaten Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2. I think they're both terrible. They're very polished, but terrible games.

That said, I can see why people might like them. I'm sure Warp's just trolling because he can, because I've never seen anyone argue their opinion as fact so aggressively over something so stupid.

I did like Warp's post though, but I would have chosen different examples:

Those people are deluding themselves, then, because that's exactly what the Kingdom Hearts games are. Trying to say they aren't is like trying to say Fate/Stay Night isn't a hentai game that features a story solely to get to the next hentai scene, or that Ladies versus Butlers! isn't just an anime about underage girls in near pornographic situations. Even with all the characterization and story stuff in the former and the different ways the girls undress in the latter, at the end of the day Fate/Stay Night is a game made for lonely nerds to jerk off to, and, well, so is the anime.

See, I prefer these examples because saying "teenagers piloting mechs" and "shmups involving ships and swords" aren't negative things at all. What better examples to compare to a "grindy game about emo teenagers." than two "novels" made for lonely teenagers.

Look, the point I'm trying to make is to stop being a ****** about this. Kingdom Hearts is bad. We got it. You don't like it. That's fine.

Turtlekid enjoys Kingdom Hearts. He can look past its obvious faults. He likes it. That's fine.

Now lets move past this so we can never talk about Kingdom Hearts or Hentai Games ever again.

Those examples are bad, because Fate/stay night isn't really intended as a porn game - the fact that there can be an all-ages PS2 port (and an anime adaptation, and a manga adaptation, none of which involve any of the porn stuff that's only in the PC game because sex sells) proves that - and Ladies versus Butlers! is based on a series of books (and isn't about underage girls at all, in any case). I used my examples because some people do see giant robot anime as a bad thing (though admittedly not as many people as would see a hentai game or a game about spiky-haired emo amnesiac teenagers as bad) and because Milestone shooters are generally accepted to be bad games that all play pretty much exactly the same.

And Black Mage, I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but have you played Fate/stay night or watched Ladies versus Butlers!, or are you going solely off that thing I posted a while back about replacing the hentai images in the former (which comprise a total of seven three-minute-long scenes across three twenty-plus-hour-long routes, which averages out to less sex per minute than some R-rated movies, as well as less sex per paragraph than most young adult books published nowadays), and a few screencaps of the latter?

But yes, let's move on to something else.

I'm not enjoying playing ESP Ra.De. (certainly not anywhere as much as I was about three weeks ago), but apparently I have to clear it if I want to remain on Team INFINITE FLAMINGOES for STGT2010. Yes, I have to finish a game I'm not having fun playing in order to remain on a team for a competition that's largely about having fun playing games.

I'm annoyed that some of the keys on my [digital] piano have died... like... exactly where I typically put my left hand for 99% of the songs I can play with both hands. How did they die? Oh, you know, someone spilled soda on them.
