Don't be sad. Macho Man Randy Savage was just the first person picked for the Rapture.

The sooner this silly little "have every new movie in 3D" phase passes, the better.

It's a bid to keep people from watching movies at home. Now with the advent of 3D TV, cinemas will probably soon move on to another gimmick.

Free tanning with every movie. Free action figure with every movie. Free movie with every movie.

I so agree with this. A bad movie is just that much worse in 3D.

At least we're kind of past the "uninvolving and generic... but it's 3D" years that brought us Beowulf and Journey to the Center of the Earth. It's probably because of when I grew up (heck, when all of us grew up), but every time I see that a movie's coming out in 3D, I feel like it's compensating for something.

It's not going to pass.

A) Prevention of theatrical shakey-cam piracy

B) 3DTVs making their way into homes that people are going to want to use

C) 3DS

3D is not going away this time. But it also won't be mandatory for your home movies or gaming. Think surround sound: supported by most games and movies, and used at most theatres, but some people will never get it at home, ever.

Guess it's hard to hate when it's a choice, and if you don't like it you get the cheaper movie

Unless your theater is like mine and doesn't give you a choice between 3D and non-3D, in which case your choices are to pay the extra $2.50 per person or wait until the home release.

What WarpRattler said.  We have to go out of our way to go to a bigger theater with the non-3D option.

And that's not even considering the fact that a lot of those do the cheap 3D that makes everything dark. I say that anybody who honestly cares about 3D being the new color film, they need to use that double-camera stuff they did for Avatar (yes, I know it's more expensive). Sure, that movie used 3D as a crutch, but at least it wasn't the retroactive Paper Mario-type 3D they tossed onto stuff like Clash of Titans.

C) 3DS
I still want to see if these can be combined. Could a 3D video camera (like the 3DS supposedly eventually will be) record a 3D movie if you put the glasses over its lenses?
