Though this was talked about recently in one of Luigison's threads, I felt a separate topic about it would be better, since that topic was more about Luigison than in general.

The question is, Do you like long or short hair on guys? girls?
I'm limiting the votes to two, expecting that people give one vote for guys, and one for girls. You may like both on each, but the poll is about which one you like more.

If you like both, say so in a reply (as well as other comments, saying why you chose what you chose. Saying because you're "old-fashioned" if you chose short hair for guys and long hair for girls isn't enough, explain more).

Personally, I like long hair on both guys and girls. Why? Because I think hair is a cool thing to have on both genders. And, it's fun to head bang and have your hair go everywhere.

I also like to shake excess water out of my hair by shaking my head, so it gets everywhere. :D

Well, being "old fashoined" is no excuse for wanting guys to have short hair. Guys with short hair is just a late 19th century to mid 20th century occurrence.
That was a joke.

Yeah, I think that people who like long hair on both are technically even more old fashioned than people who like short on guys and long on girls, because long hair was normal on everyone before then, especially in cold countries like Russia.

But, you know, there are some people here you just can't reason with. :P

I am the first to vote short hair on girls. Does that make me weird?
Well actually it doesn't really matter but shorter (not too short) is cuter usually. >_>

I don't care much about hair length, but more for presentation.  Girls with ponytails, regardless of long or short hair, don't often look that great, because there's nothing to surround or "frame" their face.  I also remember images of girls with short hair that I am fond of, like this one girl I knew who had short brown hair that looked almost anime-ish; she always wore off-beat clothing that looked so cool on her, like white stockings with cherries on them while wearing a green skirt.  And of course Audrey Tautou in Amelie, she had short black hair that made her look cute, which I think was the purpose of her hair being like that in that movie.  When girls have their hair cut very short like a boy, then it still depends how they present it, but I guess that's still a little strange to me.  I just remembered this one girl I really like that's Somalian, I think, but she had long black hair that wasn't straight but didn't have those big loopy curls that most girls do on purpose.  She usually has it in a ponytail, but that look works for her.

As for boys, I still think it's more for presentation.  I guess short hair looks more neat(as in tidy), but if it looks too neat, then it's kinda weird.  Like I can't comb my hair and leave it like that, I have to mess it up a bit after.  Combing your hair a lot does make it finer though, I guess because you're sort of shaping your hair around on your head or something.  I don't like buzzed heads that much either, but some people can look alright like that, I guess.  Like Lizard Dude.  It's all in presentation.  As for guys with longer hair, there's three kinds: afro, limp afro, and lion's mane.  People with real afros look alright, because it's a real afro.  Then there's the limp afro.  Kids with curly hair who have this hairstyle look like that put on a clown wig or something.  It just shakes all over and looks frizzy and messy.  Of course, I've seen a few of these that look alright.  There are also limp afros that are just moderately long straight-haired people, and this looks alright too, excepft when they comb it over their face, so they look like the main character from The Minister's Black Veil.  I'm guessing they got a tattoo on their forehead or a black eye or an embarrassing nose, because it looks like they think they're ugly or something and are trying to hide their facial features.  Lastly, there's the lion's mane.  That's sort of just another way to describe guys with long hair like a girl's.  I think as long as they know how to keep it clean, it's fine.  I know some guys that don't wash their hair so then they have this long flaky hair that looks like they just came in from a snowstorm.  Use head and shoulders, people!  Or something anti-dandruff, because believe it or not, it works pretty well and isn't like soy milk or diet cereal where it's obviously different than the regular product.

I guess the real thing to think about it how your hair goes with the rest of your head, or even your clothes.  I'm guessing blonde girls don't wear bright yellow, or their hair would look flat or something.  And make sure your hair is clean, because that's a bigger blessing to everyone than just making your hair look nice to some people.

I don't mind guys with long hair but I prefer it shorter. Like shoulder length or higher.Girls, I think girls look best with longer hair. But it really depends on their face. Some girls look much better wtih shorter hair than long. Example: <img src="http://www.celebrity-hair-styles-magazine.com/images/celebrity-very-short-hair-cuts-09.jpg> Agree?

Personally, I like short hair on guys and longer hair on girls. Some people look okay with it the opposite, but I still think short hair looks better on guys and long hair looks better on girls. I'm with Markio, though; it's more about "presentation" than length--style, basically. For example, even though I think longer hair looks better on girl, IMO it doesn't look all that great if it's all scraggly at the ends, like, the "hasn't been trimmed in 5 years" look. And with guys, even though I think shorter looks better, I don't think it looks as good completely shaved off.

I guess I think guys look better with hair about a quarter of an inch long to about 2 inches, depending on the hairstyle. Likewise, I guess I think girls look better with hair from about chin length to upper-middle back, again, depending on the hairstyle.

Halle Berry looks pretty with short hair, but I think she looks better with long hair (well, and this style, too):

That's usually how it is for me; if I see someone with both hair lengths, even if they look okay or nice with it at a length I don't typically like as much, I still tend to think they look better with it shorter (if male) and longer (if female). Sometimes you just have to find the right style, though. That can make a BIG difference, even if your hair length doesn't change.

Is it just the angle or is Ms. Barry's nose different in those images?

I just think I ought to say that I've had the same hairstyle since I was four.  Parted on the right side, not very long, not very short.  Length varies, depending on how long ago I have gotten it cut.

I voted for short on guys, long on girls. But, like many people said, guys can have long hair. One of my friends has that kind of skateboarder hair that is long, and I think it's a cool do. And some girls can look good with short hair. I just prefer shorter hair on guys and longer hair on girls.

BTW, if it helps you any, Luigison, the lyrics I posted were from the song "Get a Haircut" by George Thorogood, originally written by David Avery and Bill Birch.

I prefer girls to have longer hair, but some people really do look better with shorter hair.

On guys, I dont' really care that much, but I have shoulder length hair and I'm a guy.

So...in conclusion:

I prefer long, but it doesn't really matter.

Or something.

I may be wrong, but I really don't think guys can do a lot with there hair if it is long.  I mean, girls can do anything with their hair if it is long or short.  They have a lot of options.  Guys don't really have a lot of options with longer hair unless you really want to do something crazy.  But you know, whatever.  It depends on the person.  Hairstyles can do a lot to help one's image.

Bwahahahaha! I've worn my hair in a non-gel "comb over"-type deal for 8 years!

No, seriously. If you take a look at my pictures, my hair is virtually always the same. But I don't mind! I like it like this (obviously). According to Luigi~Lover, it's not a good idea, but I don't take advice about styles well.

I don't really care.
But bald girls are scary.

My hair has always been changing.
I've had a bowlcut, buzzcut, flattop, medium, straight, short, spike, half-mohawk, etc etc etc.

But I've been sticking with my current 'do for a while.

A medium spiky, parted to the right.

I loathe gel. Its the work of Bowser and his minions.
Its sticky, smelly, and makes me want to smell.

And its so noticable.

I prefer girls with long hair. It's nice to see their hair styled differently every once in a while. Curly, straight back, ponytail, pigtails, they all look fine to me. Short haired girls look fine in cartoons, but it does not transfer well in real life in my opinion. It just looks strange to me. As for guys, I don't really care but I personally prefer short hair. I used to have a mullet as a kid but now it's like a really short cut that can be spiked. Besides, long hair itches.

I haven't been annoyed at my hair due to itching...

Though, the back of my neck does seem to get more sweaty than the rest of my body when I'm asleep, and that's due to the fact that my hair keeps the warmth behind it in....

Yeah, I still think this is a nice, legitimate topic for discussion. :D

Post more in it, please? :(

Just so it doesn't look like I'm bumping for the sake of bumping, I'll add this:

I think guys can do just as much with long hair as girls.

For example, dreadlocks. The act of not combing or cutting the hair at all to the point where it becomes tough and basically unmanageable. Some people have their hair like this. Knuckles the Echidna has dreads, and I'd say they look awesome on him:

Cornrows: Some people don't know you need considerably long hair for cornrows (if you want "tails" at the end of them, at least), for it to be braided tightly in lines near the scalp. I know there's at least one person who tried to "simulate" cornrows by shaving lines into their head, because their hair was not long enough.

Some can go really crazy with their hair and just let it be, as it is after waking up in the morning, such as Ludwig von Koopa:

His hair is just marvelous, and it's quite funny that he has a full head of long hair while his only sister does not.

So, ja, guys can do lots more with longer hair than shorter hair.

Girls can do anything with their hair and it looks great.
I prefer long hair on dudes. For most of my life, it seemed like there was some inherent "coolness" about long hair.
I don't like unkempt, unwashed, knotted, nasty, long hair though.

To the person who said girls can pull anything off: absolutely right. One of my best friends can have waist length hair or have it cut at her chin and look amazing either way. She only gets her haircut like every three years so the change is always real dramatic.

Guys, it doesn't work. I know this guy who used to have a regular haircut, then he decided to grow it long. Soon he had this ponytail and he looked like a cross between Steven Segal and some dude from the George Washington era.

Johnny Damon looked ridiculous when he was with Boston. New York made him cut his hair, as well as Craig Wilson, who used to have long blonde hair when he was with Pittsburgh.

Same goes for guys with shaggy hair. It just looks stupid. I'd never get that haircut, at least.
