Site Discussion / Re: TMK screen saver?
« on: July 08, 2001, 12:00:23 PM »
Nonsense!
A screensaver could provide for that extra dash of custom Mario flavor on one's machine.  Not neccessarily a TMK screensaver, but at least a Mario-based one.  Besides, I truly don't see how it'd be any more ludicrous than, say, Mario desktop themes (which, by the way, TMK has.)

Maybe it could be similar to a game demo, with Mario running around a random level...  hmmm.. that'd be odd.

O, Anonymous Mario Fan:
If you wish to use an apostrophe in your signature without it being doubled, you could simply use a backtick ` instead.  It looks very similar, and it's right up there on the upper-left of your keyboard.

A couple of notes, Kamek:
-These never end up making sense (just a warning,) and
-The person following a word should get to add its punctuation.  It may look strange, but it's much better that way.
-Hmm.. maybe a person could be able to retroactively add adjectives to a word if they think it bland?  Sometimes people jump to nouns too quickly..

A word?  Ah, yes... It makes no... um..

It makes no real

Hhm, I don't see what was so wrong about billy chilly's post.  The plot before it did honestly begin to seem like a general mesh of Nintendo worlds with neither heed no end.  I was somewhat relieved once this story, titled "Luigi's Quest" no less, finally came back to its original purpose.  True, billy chilly DID jump the storyline in a manner that resembled the fruits of the Plotless Board (alas, poor Plotless Board.  Nobody seems to have a taste for the tastefully random anymore.  Murr..,) but it WAS well done, and managed to realign a drifting plot..
as sometimes is needed... ..

..but enough of that.  Mine not to kill this thread.
(I can't help but give my two cents from time to time; my desk's covered with 'em!)

Alright, I know this doesn't have much to do with Mario or a Mario movie, but since we're on the subject of animated game-based movies/shows/what have you...
And Square...

Has anybody ever seen the Chrono Trigger OAV anime?  The episode that I saw (and for all I know, the only episode) was quite ridiculously amusing, though in Japanese...

Mario Chat / Re: Select?
« on: June 04, 2001, 04:26:02 PM »
There's been speculation on this "cheat" in a few of the mailbags, but if you don't want to root through them, I'll give you the gist of it.

After these discussions dragged on for many weeks, it was found that the "select code" only seemed to happen on emulator versions (which is why TMK staff and other sitegoers couldn't get it to work.)  The best theory of why this happens (that I've heard) is that the emulators toggle certain tags that normally wouldn't occur so on the actual system.  Some of these tags may initiate a debug mode, a feature particular to certain design systems.  Therefore, the game thinks that the emulator is one of these systems, and includes the debug attributes (the select code.)

Yeah, getting 30 mellons in every stage is tough, but more in the insufferable way.

Each melon has to be found, which usually means sniffing about every pixel of the huge, empty levels.  Then, there are things like the melon stacks, which become nigh impossible on the later stages.

It's simply TEDIOUS in trying to locate that very last melon in each stage and quite IRRITATING when a single, tiny mistake (i.e. one single death, missing a melon stack/race, not knowing that a paramelon won't respawn after it hits the ground, or that paramelons even exist, getting hit while eating a melon so it falls off the screen) will mean that one has to reset the game and try the entire level over.  There are too many aspects of that game that make it an annoying play.
Oh, Nintendo, you could've done so much better...

But enough ranting.  Yes:  getting 30 melons in every stage is a difficult task.

I think I understand:

We can all assume that it takes one year for light to travel the distance of one light year, correct?
The hubble telescope has seen the light of stars that have been determined to be about 133 septillion kilometers away.  This converts to about 14 trillion light years.
Hence, those stars have to have existed for at least 14 trillion years for their light to actually reach us.
Had the universe existed for a mere 6 thousand years, we'd only be able to see the light of stars 6 thousand light years away or closer.

Make sense?
