NetHack, actually (the beat-'em-up was Final Fight - I never said the food caused the death! - and another option might've been BioShock, which, coincidentally enough, was also the correct answer to Q3 - think Bouncer spawns, although this isn't really fair because those aren't random and I just wanted to quote LD), and this would be Q8.
