Actually, I read an interview with Square in EGM in which they said that they were considering returning to Nintendo with the advent of the Dolphin and the GBA.

daFunkster- what do you mean by 'goodbye my friend, Toby McKeehan'?  Do you mean the Toby from DC Talk, by any chance?

Why on earth would you focus on finishing a level withot getting hurt at all?  I don't quite understand.

I guess the Game Genie/Action Replay could help ot here...

Yeah, it is kinda comforting to think that the GBA will only be capable of primitive 3D rendering.  I haven't kept up with the GBA, but I hear it is roughly the equivalent of the SNES...

I have to admit that this is the first (and only) board I ever joined, so I just assumed all Message Boards were intelligent and fun to follow.  I gather from your messages that there are boards where insanity and ignorance run rampant!?!

Many thanks to you all, for a great first experience!

Mario Chat / Re: What defines a Mario game?
« on: June 25, 2000, 09:36:34 PM »
Yes, I have to agree.  A game is only 'Mario' if it is approved by Mario's creator, Miyamoto-san.  All of those Mario cameos are cute, but they just saturate and confuse the Mario universe to no end.  One of Miyamoto's other creations, the Zelda series, is free of doofy cameos and edutainment titles.  And let's face it, the series is really better off that way.

Now, enough of my incessant ramblings, let's hear more input...

That's a good question!  I think that there is some sort of primitive AI alogarithm involved, especially in the old skool 8/16 bit Mario games.  Maybe someone else knows a lot about this one...

I've never heard of 'The Wizard' before, and I certainly didn't know it was a Nintendo-based movie.  Now, I'm not Deezer and I have no authority whatsoever at TMK, but I'd say that unless the movie is remotely related to Mario it would not be included.  I would like to see it though...

Mario Chat / Re: ShyGuys Vs. The Goombas
« on: June 25, 2000, 08:25:15 PM »
Ahh, yes.  A war between the Goombas and the Shy Guys is conceivable, considering they do not have common alliances.  Yeah, the flying goombas could para-bomb the shy guys and the big goombas could stomp around, but don't forget that there are around 15 different 'breeds' of shy guys in Yoshi's Island alone, including Fly Guys and Fat Guys.  I think the Shy Guys would win, because the Goombas are by nature much more squishy and easily disabled.  It would be a very close match, though...

Video Game Chat / Re: Are games losing their quality?
« on: June 24, 2000, 06:26:52 PM »
I definitely agree that games are going down in quality.  The graphics look great, but usually the storyline is copied/boring/nonexistent.  I believe that the SNES is the best, most well rounded system of all time, with the Sega Genesis a close second.

I guess the only ones at blame for this downfall in game quality is us- the consumers.  If we buy poorly designed games, that is exactly what we will get.  Try to rent a game before you buy, and if it isn't any good, vote with your wallet and don't buy the game.

I dunno... I am actually gravitating more and more toward retrogaming myself.  It is much cheaper, and (surprisingly enough) it is just as much fun.

Mario Chat / Yoshi Confusion
« on: January 10, 2001, 11:07:24 PM »
I have noticed lately that many people seem confused about two distinct Yoshi games.  The games in question are Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story.

Yoshi's ISLAND
Platformer for the Super Nintendo.  Utilized the FX chip for stunning graphics.  Revolutionary gameplay.  Featured 48 regular levels of play, plus 6 hidden levels and 6 bonus rounds.

Yoshi's STORY
Platformer for the Nintendo 64.  Ultimately sucked.  24 levels of play, very easy.  Beatable within 20 minutes.  Best feature- you can save your name using Japanese characters. ; )

Now, maybe I'm the confused one here... someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Game Help / GameShark Pro help... please?
« on: December 16, 2000, 06:41:13 PM »
Yeah, I know that the GSPro has little to do with Mario but desperate times call for desperate measures, eh?

My brother got a Game Shark Pro (for the N64) for his birthday a few months ago, but lately it hasn't been working very well.  Actually, it hasn't been working at all.  Whatever game you put in the slot, it shows only a blank screen and a funny looking character on the little countdown timer on front.

I don't think that it is a problem with keycodes, because I have tried every single game we have in the thing and none of them work.  We have another GameShark, a regular one, and my brother has put the two together in the 64 (with a game, of course).  Could this have messed up the innards of the GSPro?  The other Shark works just fine, only the GSPro is not working.

I know that it worked to begin with, because I made several codes on it myself.  (Very cool, BTW)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried the GameShark web site, but the FAQ said nothing of this.  I even tried their MB, but it was not accepting new members at the time.

Video Game Chat / Re: What is your favorite nintendo song
« on: June 17, 2000, 07:12:14 PM »
My favorite Nintendo song would have to be Secret of the Forest from Chrono Trigger.  *chills run down spine at the thought of the music playing* Squaresoft really knows how to do game music, which is why all SMRPG music is my favorite Mario music.
