I never actually played Shadow the Hedgehog, but Shadow is awesome in Sonic Adventure 2, and in Sonic Heroes.

I actually really like Shadow, I think as a character he's a decent example of the "reluctant hero" archetype. And hero is what he is. Only the final story of Shadow the Hedgehog is completely true...and in that he saves the universe despite not knowing his identity. And really, he was pretty much past the "Maria" obsession in Sonic '06 after putting aside his past in Shadow. Shadow's a good character. Hes's not incredibly deep, but as far as "dark versions of established heroes" goes...he has some depth and personality.

For each his own, though. I like the Sonic games people don't like anymore, and don't like all these newfangled shooters.
