So, does this HTML here --> <img src="http://WWW.warpytacos.com"/img> turn into a link on a post, or do you have to have the HTML checkbox enabled in posts for that? (If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.)

No, that wouldn't do anything. First, you need to put a link to an actual image file, not a webpage. Second, yes the use HTML box does need to be checked. And that will take out all hard returns so you'll need to use
 and <p> for that.
