I like the new design more. With it he looks more than an stand-alone character rather than a tool.
And I think I noticed the koopa yoshi thing but didn't care. Or maybe not...

I think the Donkey Kong one is actually pretty cool.
When I was young goosebumps used to really disturb me (The tv show anyway).
The megaman ones... some simply suck, others suck but are still cool.

When I caught a shiny Tentacool.
When a wild shiny rayquaza appeared.
When said shiny rayquaza killed itself thanks from the confusion caused by his own outrage.
Many years later actually capturing the blessed shiny rayquaza after many resets until it appeared again.

Many final boss battles. Especially Zelda Ocarina of time and Wind Waker. That last one, it was truly, just... can't do it justice with words.
And generally all of Majora's Mask.

I don't think that being casual, or the presence/existence/smell of casuals is bad. I just want to hear people opinion about what is hardcore and what is casual, not to bash anyone. I also became tired of all this "cazualsz soc" thing, and that was mainly why I started discussing about the topic here.
(You can check some of my posts where I made fun of this, by saying that f zero is for casuals and that animal crossing will ruin nintendo for being a casual game, which it isnt.)
I, for one, love videogames, and I don't care of being casual or hardcore like if it mattered.
Maybe what separates hardcore from casual is the "love" for gaming?

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle used to be my favorite game cube game by far, but now I have little to no interest in Sonic Games. I lost interest after Sonic Heroes.

Its good that the SNES version has unlimited continues from the beginning of the level, not the world.
A dont know about the original, though...

If you are saying that hardcoreness depends in gameplay and not in popularity (or lack of it), I agree.

I just remembered a Chester Cheetah game for the SNES. I used to rent it when I was little, and I had a lot of fun with it. You must go to several worlds to collect maps that open new worlds. The bosses were cool, like a fat lady in a swimsuit that attacked with an umbrella in the beach level, and a robot in the farm level (huh?). And Chester had the mysterious ability to fly!
I think the game was hard, because you have to find the map piece on each level or beating the level would be useless, and they were pretty well hidden. And you died with one hit, except, of course, if you managed to get a bag of Cheetos, which revive you.
And you fought the last boss, which is somewhat similar to Kronk from The Emperors New Groove, in a rocket launching car during a sunset. Woah Chester is 2 ocol!!!!

That game was HARDCOR3!!!!!1
Well probably not.
I still want to get it, even if it is just to here the Boss Music. I still remember it. Well, just like 2 seconds of it.

Conclusion: Buy CHEETOS. And try out this game, even if it is only to make fun of me for liking an advergame.

I want to say that Earthbound is really simple, from what I played. And Pokemon has alot of hardcore potential. You think any noob can complete the pokedex, have a win streak of 100 in the battle tower, have 5 stars in his trainer card, train a party of EV trained pokemons with good IVs? Even then you can play against real opponents to further challenge your skills.
(If you dont know what IV or EV are, then I know why you think pokemon is simple.)

Now anyone and his dog and the fleas of the dog know about Earthbound, it has lost its cult and hardcore status.

I think casual and hardcore-ness are (or should be) measured in the amount of time you play and amount of games you buy.
Say a casual buys one or two games each year, and plays about two hours a week, while a hardcore buys say like 1 or 2 games per month and plays them 2 or more hours a day.

That's just what I think. I have nothing to say against Bird Person's post, so I guess I somewhat agree with it. Except the lab rat part, easy to understand games are games, so they would be casual in the way I see it...

Wait, so if some middle aged nub gets brain age and tries and succeeds in getting an age of 20... is he hardcore?

Can a gamer be so hardcore that he could make a game that not even him would beat?
