I'm in the Top Ten, lettering in track, Boy of the Month, have a self-published book that's almost sold out and a poem set to be published for reals in a compilation, and about $3000 in scholarships under my belt.

I opened the disc tray on that fat PS2 yesterday and found a Guitar Hero II disc. I don't know if the game works, but the system certainly does. And even if the system had turned out not to work, it would've been worth what my grandmother paid just for the two memory cards that came with it.

And the game I needed to install that memory card hack, 007: Agent Under Fire, was surprisingly enjoyable once I went in and changed the default control settings (which for some reason involve moving forward and looking left and right being on one stick, and strafing and looking up and down on the other).

The controls are a remnant of older console shooters like GoldenEye, which, similarly, must be reconfigured if you've ever played any modern FPS.

Free MCBoot, which I referred to in my last post on the previous page. Once installed on a memory card, it loads instead of the PS2's menu at boot, and allows you to do things like load ELF files from a USB drive (or, if you have a fat PS2 and everything to set one up, a hard drive), play MP3s and video files, and load some burned DVDs, as well as still allowing you to do your regular PS2 stuff. And you don't have to modify your system to install it, aside from possibly having to tape down some switches inside the console.

There are several methods of installing Free MCBoot, one of which involves swapping out a legit 007: Agent Under Fire disc with a slightly modified copy that includes a USB loader, allowing you to access the USB drive holding the Free MCBoot installer.

It should be noted that it wasn't a tournament in the usual competitive sense; items were on High, Stage Choice was on Random, and the matches were five-minute Free-For-Alls.
