Well that's about the most farfetched argument I've seen here.

Dismissing an argument without even giving a reason only shows that you can't really prove it wrong, Chupperson.

Seriously though, I'm getting really sick of this forum. I suppose I'm just used to message boards where the moderators actually were a step above making sarcastic and demeaning comments in every other post. In fact, it seems like those are the only two kinds of posts people make here - nobody actually tries to respect people and their opinions.

Forget it - I'm not coming back here again. At least this isn't the only forum where you can talk about mario and video games - if it was, then that would be a serious problem.

Z, because I wanted to, and it's "than", not "then".

1. That's the point - there was no reason for you to rant about using the term "sub-human," especially since it distracts from the actual reason for the topic.

2. To some degree, correcting people's minor grammar and spelling errors is a way of calling someone "sub-human." By posting that I used the wrong word in one spot, you're basically saying what amounts to "Look, you spelled a word wrong, and I corrected it, so you must not be nearly as smart as me!"

I assume that is a joke, but I will respond to it anyway.  I think it's important for one to know his or her own weaknesses.  That way one can A) improve on such tasks or B) concentrate on tasks that he/she are good at.

I also do not like the term sub-human.  It implies that either some humans are less than human or that animals, plants, etc. are less than human.  Even though birds can't think like a human, most of them can fly.  I'd love to be able to fly.  My cat has to let me know to open the door, but he can flat-footed jump at least seven feet.  I'd love to be able to jump that high.  Most plants can't even move on their own, but it's be cool to be able to get energy from sunlight.

Most animals are not sub-human, but merely different evolutionary branches.  Chimps and modern apes are our cousins.  They are not below or before use.

My daughter sucks at most games.  Does that make her sub-human?

Anyway, I was told on NeoGAF about being able to press the negative button on the Wiimote to pull up a scroll similar to many modern music games, but haven't tried it yet.  Also, the Wiimote seemed to work fine in Wii Music, but my attached nunchuk did nothing.  Maybe I should have added an option:  4) I need to spank my nunchuk.

Woah, man! This isn't the political discussion forum! Besides, I think you took ShadowBrain way too seriously. If you assumed that it was a joke, why didn't you just treat it as that and not resort to writing this long post about evolutionary branches and how we shouldn't treat animals as less then ourselves?

Oh, and just for the record, Wii Music is easily one of the worst first party nintendo games ever.

Actually, I though MP3 was the best of the Prime trilogy, because it had a more defined storyline, actual voice acting, and a far better control scheme. Wii remote > analog stick for playing first person games.

The difference... Paper Mario is an RPG series that uses characters and the style from an adventure game series. EarthBound's already an RPG, so the backward would be to make a platformer based on it? But EarthBound is all in the writing... I can only imagine a modern platformer with EarthBound's style being like a new StarTropics game (which I would love to see). Or do you propose more RPGs be made centering around other characters? Mmmmmggghhhhhhh....

I think that the series is better off as just a trilogy. Quality is better than quantity, am I right? It'd suck if Itoi tried milking his brain and ran out of good material just for the sake of putting out more games. I mean, not that he isn't Superman, but his job with the series is done. They're masterpieces and they don't have to be turned into halfhearted money machines, even if (like the Mario series) a masterpiece comes 'round every few games. I feel the same way about Harry Potter. All is said and done.

I'm sorry so many of my recent posts have been so long.

I see your point about quantity over quality, but it doesn't always have to be one or the other. I can think of at least one Nintendo series that keeps getting new games and continues to rock (Hint, it begins with M and ends with a troid).

Still, the very idea of "cautious pessimism" just makes me... want to squeeze some sort of doughy substance and throw it at a wall. You trap yourself in a hole where you're looking for negatives and only see negatives and, just, agh. Why would you do that to yourself?

That's not the way I am at all, Bird Person. In fact, when I first saw the early previews for Nuts and Bolts, I had a lot of hope for the game as well. Now that reviews are pouring in, however, I'm quickly losing faith in this game.

However, Fifth's reply may have given me a bit more hope for Banjo's latest adventure. It's good to see that at least some people are enjoying it, and I'm glad to hear that the challenges are varried and challenging enough.

But I do not believe that the Mario Sports or Parties have really been good for the series. Sometimes it's best to just leave it alone. I seriously don't want a thousand crappy games with EarthBound characters that only get moaning and groaning from fans. And if you want some MOTHER 3 spoilers to back me up...

Spinoffs don't always have to mean party games, you know. Take the Paper Mario series - it's technically a spinoff, but it's also a very good series. Actually, the Wario and Donkey Kong series could be considered spinoffs too, as the staring characters originated in Mario games.

Also, I see your point Kojinka, but didn't Nintendo say somewhere that the new DSi games would be backward compatible? Correct me if I'm wrong - I can't remember.

Well, looks like we've got two ShadowBrians roaming around being cautiously pessimistic. I'm leaving the forums.

Nope, I'm not like ShadowBrian at all. I'm actually very positive about Nintendo right now, especially after their last press conference. It's Rare that I don't like, and they no longer have much to do with the big N.

Oh, and Fitfth, thanks for the impressions. It doesn't sound that bad from what you said, but it doesn't sound that good either. Mainly because, as I suspected, it seems to have a heavy dose of repetitiveness, and a light dose of familiarity. One question - does the flying have more to it than just flying - say, dodging obstacles and enemies? Because if not, then that bites.

Even if there were plans for a Mother 4, I do not think it should happen until Nintendo in every other region stops neglecting Mother and release the dang series worldwide!!!

QFT. Maybe they could update and release the Mother trilogy for the new DS.

(quoted post)

Yes, I know, but I don't see how that makes my post any less relavent. You said that my line about the reviews got to you the most, so I simply responded to that.

This isn't a history essay. When you have nothing to build a case, don't try to make one up! As for me, I saw the intro to the game and that whirling feeling of yearning churned up in my gut. I have faith in Rare. I believe, based on what I've seen, I would love Nuts & Bolts. I've got to get a 360 somehow.

I find this highly ironic considering that you're basing your opinion on an INTRO. You can't judge a game on one opening movie any more than you can judge in on lots of reviews from credible video game sights - probably even less.

Well, if Chef is right, than that stinks. I don't get it though - why do they have to end the franchise, or any good franchise for the matter? There's always room for new games, even if they are just prequels or spin-offs. I don't see what's the point of ending it and wasting any further potential, especially considering it's very original.

Oh reviews. Always much more reliable than experience.

For me, they're all I have to work on in this case. considering that I don't own an XBOX 360 and haven't played the demo. Sure, if only a few of them were saying this, then it wouldn't matter, but in this case most sites seem to be agreeing that Nuts and Bolts isn't as good as the first two games. I think that at least counts for something, if not nearly as much as experience. But seriously, since you said you don't own a 360 either, how can you be so sure that experiencing the game will generate a contrary opinion?

They weren't platformers, they were adventures. I can only think of about three examples of actual platforming in all of BK1, the rest was performing other tasks or mini-games. This game is pretty much the same thing, except with vehicles that you build instead of moves you learn from Bottles. Just because it's not exact replica of the first two Banjo games doesn't mean Rare is "dead', because if they were, they wouldn't be making games at all.

I'm talking figuratively here, not literaly. Rare may still be making games, but it doesn't mean that they're worth playing.

A couple games about pinatas does not an awesome game company make. Sure, they're probably some of the better liscensed games released, but if Rare has to mess up their core franchises like Banjo to make a decent game based on a kids cartoon, then I couldn't care less.

Seriously, I haven't heard one review yet that said Nuts and Bolts was a worthy sucessor to the original N64 games. Sure, many of them liked the game, but they all said that it pales in comparison to the first games in the series. The huge potential from building unique vehicles was completely blown by unoriginal missions and a lack of platforming. Considering that the Banjo series started off as platformers, that's extremely sad.

Nintendo seriously needs to make a new Earthbound/Mother game someday. I find it appaling that one of the most unique Nintendo series has gotten so little attention. Three games - two of which haven't even been released in the US - do not do Ninten, Ness, and Lucas justice. Who cares if Earthbound is currently just a cult classic and not a mainstream game? A modern day revival could be just what the series needs - provided they make it a quality one.
