Author Topic: E.B or Gamestop?  (Read 4755 times)

I just had to ask this question.  What gaming store do you like better, E.B or Gamestop?  Personally, I like Gamestop better.  I think they have alot better deals.  But the biggest difference has to be the clerks, the people at Gamestop are alot friendlier than at E.B.  The people at E.B in the mall I live near act like jerks, its almost as if they think thier better than you.  But, I guess it all depends on where you live.

Al Pacino came out of the theater...  Bruce Willis came out of the T.V...  But Mel Gibson, came out of nowhere.

The same is true about the people that work at the E.B. near me...
E.B. has better online deals than Gamestop, but Gamestop has better in-store deals.  However, Gamestop and E.B. are the same company now, so that will probably change...

The EB clerks near me are nicer than the GameStop ones.

For the time being, anyway.

Gamestop is by far a better place where I live. THey all are so knowledgeable. The ones at EB just are the meanest. But then again, it all has to do with your location. So yes, I visit Gamestop.

Gamestop is closer to me and I know some of the employees. It's also just across from Chic-Fil-A in our mall.
I've never had any reason to go to E.B. really.

Gamestop (formelly Funcoland) has pulled out of it's purchase of E.B.
E.B. is now owned by G4tv.

Um, I like Target.  And at the mall, there's Electronic Boutique, and near Borders there's EB Games, and across the street from Target, there's Gamestop.  To tell you the truth, I haven't been to a video game store for a long time, but if I were to pick one, then I'd probably pick Gamestop because it's closer and they sell used games for less, and when the game has been for sale for half a year, it doesn't disappear from the shelves like at Target.  Of course, I've only been to EB Games once, and it didn't look like a bad store.  I just want to go to a store that sells the game I want.

I better cut you off here, taking an overdose of Markio can be dangerous.

RyanGibbs, can you give a source for your post.  Last I heard E.B. had merged with GameStop like MegaByte said.

Gamecrazy is better than both.

Kelso: Guys this is a game of Cat & Mouse between me & Hyde. I''m gonna make him admit he''s been going out with Jackie behind my back.

I don't know which one I like better, but something great happened to me at Gamestop recently.  I was browsing through the store at the mall one day and found the newest
edition of Nintendo Power.  It had stuff about E3, Mario Kart DS online, the Nintendo World store, and even a free DVD of some upcoming games.  I decided that I wanted to buy it and when I looked at the price tag... it was only $5!  I couldn't believe it.  I gave it to the dude at the counter and asked if that was the right price.  He scanned it and said that it was, so without a second thought I got it right away.  Man, what a deal!  I fealt like I stole that thing and should have paid five more dollars just to make myself feel better.  Even though the DVD could have been much better, the magazine by itself ROCKED!!!

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

From the latest issue of Computer Games Magazine:

"When someone buys your game for $35 from the (ever-growing) racks of used games, all of that goes to the retailer and nothing goes to the developer/publisher. For a developer/publisher, a used copy is worse than a pirated copy because it not only means that they don't get any money for their labor, the player is out that money, and can't spend the money on another game - the pirate still has $35 bucks in his pocket. Given the huge margins, it's easy to understand why used game sales have become such a big deal to many retailers.
A similar phenomenon is happening in the massively-multiplayer arena. One of the huge attractions of developing an MMO is that they are naturally resistant to two of the largest revenue thieves: piracy and used game sales."

I agree, Lizard Dude, but I'm going to keep buying cheap used games and I'm going to keep selling back old games.  The emergence of used game retailers may be one of the worst things in recent times to happen to console game makers, but was one of the best things to happen to me.

Lately, however, I have become disappointed with both EB and GameStop.  My local EB games has an ever-growing mountain of dirt-cheap used games, but they're all 'B' games that I have no interest in playing.  The 'A' games never show up in the used bin - presumably because people like them so much that they never trade them back in.  And recently I have been disappointed with the selection of both new games and hardware at EB.  If they're supposed to be a dedicated game store, why don't they cary a single copy of Zelda: Minish Cap when the electronics section of my local Target has several copies?  So, as much as I love to score a great deal, I still prefer paying high prices for a quality selection of games. Which is why I cast my vote for: Amazon.com.

Maybe games will eventually be faster, better, and cheaper through console downloads like Nintendo plans for the classic game downloads on the Revolution.  That would elimnate the used game market and make more money for the console makers.  On the otherhand it might open up gaming companies to more pirating.
