What basis or justification is there for an Asteroids movie?

Heck the game wasn't even that good.  If they wanna make a video-game-based movie set in space, Metroid deserves it more.

How in the heck can you call Asteroids "not that good"?
That was a joke.

Well, the Metroid movie still hasn't come out.

Please list all the videogames better than Asteroids released before 1980.

What does before 1980 have to do with it?  I'm not talking about in a certain context, just in general; in general, Asteroids just wasn't that great.

When has game quality ever had anything to do with the quality of a movie based on it? If anything, there's an inverse relationship.

Aw, heck, ShadowBrain has a point.  This could be an excellent movie.

Yeah, but there's still a problem here: Turtlekid1 said Asteroids wasn't good.

Lizard Dude, remember what games Turtlekid does like. He probably can't handle something as awesome or as difficult as an arcade shoot-'em-up.

He probably doesn't like Raiden Fighters either.

You play as a little space ship that rotates around and shoots rocks.  Other than the nostalgic factor, there's not much there to make it good.

Well, I actually meant that (on average) the better the game, the worse the movie.

Turtlekid1, you used the past tense in every post up to your last. You can't judge a 30-year old game as if it came out today. Asteroids was one of the most important, most popular, and most fun arcade games of all time.

And it's still fun in a simple way.

I can and will judge it as if it came out today if it's having a movie made about it before games that deserve a film adaptation more (or for that matter, games that could even have a plausible story and characters in a film adaptation).

It would be like making a movie based on Pong.
