If it's going to be on the DS, I'd rather have the original graphics. They were some of the best 2D graphics ever, and it would take a more powerful console than the DS to do similarly great 3D graphics. I just hope this means it won't be $40 now. (Wait, what am I saying? This is freakin' Square. Of course it'll be $40.)

I've written three songs in my life, but I can't play them on any non-kazoo instrument, so I just have to hum them. Which is all right, because the lyrics are really lame. (Although I actually don't remember all the words to any of them)

So far, the 3D titles can be analogized with the sidescrollers pretty closely. The first one has primitive graphics but good jump physics, the second one introduces a weird new mechanic and is the black sheep of the series, and the third one has lots of power ups and goes on a whirlwind tour of a big place -- the entire Mushroom Kingdom; the entire universe. If the analogy continues, we should expect the 3D Super Mario World, basically Galaxy 2, around 2011 (half the length of time between the previous games, like Super Mario World). It will probably be similar to Galaxy in graphics and controls, take away a few of the suits and add one or two more, and focus on a nominally smaller but much more fleshed-out location. There's a pretty good chance it will be set in the Mushroom Kingdom, since none of the other 3D games have actually been there yet, surprisingly, other than the Grand Finale Galaxy.

Unless you're a six-year-old girl (points shamefully to CT).

So how about we prevent bad guys from having guns by outlawing guns for civilians all over?
Black market. Bad guys don't follow the law, that's why they're bad guys.

If we hadn't invented guns, we wouldn't need them. But now that they're out there, we need to let the good guys have guns, because the bad guys are going to have them anyway.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: Abortion
« on: July 06, 2008, 02:44:14 AM »
While I'd rather just see it illegal everywhere, like regular murder, leaving it up to the states would also be good. It would at least open it up for meaningful debate again (Plenty of people are debating it now, but as long as Roe v. Wade is on the books, it can't really be changed). Leaving it up to the states wouldn't cause any major logistical problems, like gay marriage is. Just as long as parental consent is required everywhere. I mean, seriously, you can't give a kid Pepto-Bismol without getting a signed form from their parents, but you can drive them to another state and get them an abortion without even telling them? (IMO, one of the dumbest parts of the Roe v. Wade decision is the idea that first trimester abortions are so safe that states shouldn't regulate them at all. I'm sure it is safe [to the mother] when done properly, but doesn't the state still have a responsibility to make sure the person doing it is an actual doctor? Or is it just so safe that no one could possibly screw it up?)

I'd heard about it and seen some stills of it, but this is the first time I've actually seen it. Pretty cool.
