So, I downloaded Earthbound from DGEmu.com, and put it on my Desktop. It first apperead as a Zipped folder. I managed to un-zip it. ...But when I try to open it, it opens AOL, and says "The file may not be supported by AOL. AOL will try to open it as a text file if you continue." If I try to continue, it reads: "This file is too large to open as a text file. Please open this file as another application." And when I choose to open it with other then AOL, nothing else works! Did I waste my money?

You need an emulator, dude. The rules of the forums don't allow me to say where to get one though.
AOL hardly does what it's supposed to do--don't expect it to do more!!

OKay, I found one, and it's up, but the 2 programs don't seem to be acknowledging each other. Can you tell me how to use one? I'm using ZSNES.

Put the ROM in My Documents and open ZSNES. You can take it from there.

It still doesn't acknowledge Earthbound...

Is the ROM USA? If it is the Japanese version of Earthbound, download the US version.

It's the USA version.

Then Download Snes9x (google it) as it is easier to use.

Okay... (It seemed ZSNES was said to be best)

It can't even open this one(?)

Then the ROM is defective. Sorry! Play it on your SNES.

It shouldn't be hard to do. You open up the emulator. You select the rom, and you should be able to play it.

Try with another ROM. And don't let it get to you when people say "Buy the game instead". I downloaded Kirby's Dream Course recently to see if it was worth the 800 Wii Points, and felt it was not, and I feel good about not wasting my points on it.

Nevermind, it worked. Besides, I don't have a SNES. But now with ROMS...I don't need VC! Yay! No more waiting!

It is quite sucky that Nintendo doesn't offer free demos of VC games. Your only options of trying it before downloading it are to play it if someone you know owns it, or download the ROM illegally. I wouldn't "buy the game instead" for EarthBound because you'll be spending $70, none of which will actually be beneficial to Nintendo--playing the ROM on your computer (or whatever) will be logically illegal if and when it comes to the Virtual Console. And I certainly hope it does. I'll pay for it.
The VC is ROMs.

If Nintendo refuses to sell it's best games, and instead give out Neo Geo games, then they are almost asking for it.

It's called marketing strategy, they release every game they've ever made, ever, all at once, and people are only gonna buy the ones they know they want--not the ones that sound interesting at a particular time but actually aren't.

People want Neo Geo games. Also, ZSNES is definitely a better emulator than SNES9x.
That was a joke.

I thought you had to own A.) a legal copy of the game and B.) the system that the emulator is for.

You do if you want to do it "legally."
Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

To be completely legal, you also have to backup the game yourself.
