Mario Chat / Re: Mario Haters...Why do they have to be so mean?
« on: May 21, 2006, 08:26:40 PM »
Oh, For Pete's sake grow up! People can ahte him if they want to, enough with the whole "Mario haters are so mean, they aren't aloud to hate him " stuff! People can hate him if they want to, and no, they aren't souless just because they hate Mario.

Uhhhhhh... you're wrong. Didn't you read what I posted earlier? It is not fine for people to hate Mario! You seem unable to make the fundamental distinction between not liking him - i.e. having no interest in him - and actually having something against him. No one can be justified in having something against a completely unobjectionable character. Does it take a rocket scientist to figure that out? The only conceivable reason, as it appears to me, for anyone to have something against Mario is because he's not in violent, dirty video games like the ones so many smart-aleck kids like these days. Does that sound to you like a valid excuse to hate him?

Mr.Mad's sentiments were quite right, and I still fail to see why you took issue with what he said.

Find a place in the level that has two rows of blocks, one above the other. Each row has five blocks in it; the bottom row has only brick blocks, and the top one has four brick blocks and one ? block (second from the right). Break the brick block in the middle of the top row, and then punch from below the one in the middle of the bottom row. A beanstalk will sprout and go up into the sky. Get all the way through the bonus place in the sky without falling off the mushroom platform. Jump up onto the platform at the end of the bonus place and enter the pipe above you. The rest should be obvious.

Though, to be honest, my biggest problem with the recent Sonic games is not the "maturity" it's the fact that, well, they're terrible.  The 3D Sonics: Adventure, Heroes, etc. just aren't fun.  Sonic Advance and Rush, on the other hand, maintain the classically fun gameplay of the originals, while still having the "cooler" looking character designs, but without the crappy storylines and "serious business."

Argh... not another 3D Sonic basher!

There's nothing wrong with not liking the Sonic Adventure games, Sonic Heroes, etc., but it really frustrates me to see people calling them terrible and saying they suck over and over on VG message boards. I for one happen to like these games, especially Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and I think that SA2B is one of the greatest Sonic games ever, even taking the original games into consideration. Like I said, it's fine to disagree, but openly calling them terrible and crappy just annoys me, especially after an argument I was in on another message board about it (though I can't see one that bad popping up here, since there was at least one egregious jerk involved in the argument there who has no equivalent on here).

Simple, animals age faster then humans.

These are cartoonish, anthropomorphic video game characters. How fast real animals age has absolutely no bearing on this.

.... And they say it's hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic over the net. Give me a break here, I know people have different opinions, but alot of people I know liked DK64 to a fair extent and I didn't know it was the Mario Sunshine of Donkey Kong games (then again DK64 came first, so I suppose Sunshine is more like the DK64 of Mario games).

Wait a minute...

What... the... freakin'... heck?!

I was NOT being sarcastic at all! I really do like DK64 that much! What on earth made you think I was sarcastic???

I'm almost never sarcastic online.

Video Game Chat / Re: Who cares about game ratings?
« on: May 21, 2006, 07:38:09 PM »
I must be the one of the only people here who DOES care about the ESRB ratings. They have flaws in their rating system, but just having a rating system period is decidedly a good thing. It's good to be able to be warned about what's in a game. I would NEVER buy a game with dirty sexual content in it; games like that sicken me beyond belief. I mean, people take sex, which is a beautiful thing in its proper place, and they pervert it and then put it in a video game meant for entertainment. I would also never buy a game with gratuitous violence, blood, and gore in it; not only is that an exceedingly poor form of entertainment - I can't even fathom what's in the minds of people who enjoy seeing images of people getting ripped apart on a screen - but I wouldn't even be able to bear to look at it anyway. I'm grateful that there's something there to tell me about bad content in video games so that I don't have to accidentally find it.

Yes, I think so too. I'm just saying that apparently that was the grounds upon which ESRB gave it a T rating.

I have a whole short essay to write in about 6 hours tomorrow. If I don't finish it on time, I'll probably get a bad grade. Argh, I can't believe I put it off so much....

EDIT: Actually, I was just informed that the deadline was slightly extended. It's still gonna be ultra hard to write it, though....

Wow, I can believe this many people hate DK64. I mean, I knew KoS wasn't that well liked (even though it's my second favorite DK game), but DK64 was a gold mine of fun in my opinion.

I agree 1000% that DK64 was a great game. How can anyone dislike it??? I realize people have different opinions, but my mind boggles, seriously. DK64 is one of the best 3D games ever, IMO, and probably one of the best games ever period. I've played hours upon hours upon hours of it since I got it not too long ago, not getting a bit bored of finding the same bananas over again on different data files. Yes, it is long, and it does involve a LOT of collecting, but every bit of the collecting is pure fun to me, since there's so much variety in the places and ways you collect stuff. And I wouldn't have the game any shorter myself, since the longer a game as great as this is, the more unbelievable fun can be gotten out of it the first time through, and the greater the replay value is. Also, the game is full of amusing and entertaining characters, has awesome music, and has some of the most spectacular boss fights I've ever seen. All this adds up to make DK64 a truly outstanding contribution to video gaming.

If Cranky never wore a tie, then who is the DK in MvDK (the first one)? If he's Super DK, then why isn't Mario a lot older in MvDK than he was in the original arcade Donkey Kong?

I doubt this mystery can be solved, frankly.

I was playing SSBM and didn't understand a menu and erased my file with 260-270 trophies, all charachters, and all levels but one that took me 2.5 years to make.

That's supposed to be funny?

*sigh*

What LD and TEM are trying to say is that when you make a new thread, the first post you make to accompany the new thread should be meaningful. For example, in this thread, your post could have told a funny story that happened in your life a few days ago, instead of just saying "Here's a topic; post about it."

That's what they mean.

I knew what they meant. The reason I said "Huh?" was because both of them said exactly the same thing. It appeared that TEM didn't see LD's post before he posted.

"You may select up to 6 options"

^ For the record, might want to up that, in case people like more than 6

I too refuse to vote. Favoritism doesn't sit well with me, in most cases.

What?

I thought you could only vote for 1 option.

Sonic Rush isn't a racing game; it's a semi-classic style Sonic 2D platformer. I have it, so I know. I have all three of the titles I mentioned, as well as SM64DS and NSMB.

Super Princess Peach is pretty good too.

And Sonic Rush is not bad either.

I don't know if Kirby: Canvas Curse counts as a platformer, but if it does, it's definitely a good one.
