I've been looking at many websites and people are saying that Nintendo is dying. Why do people hate Mario? We need to support Nintendo and Mario so their future is a good one.

Yeah, a lot of people hate Nintendo.  How can they possibly hate a little tubby italian guy with a mustache???  This Dance Dance REvolution Mario thing will most likely help a lot, though.

TMK should sneek in to E3 as a publicity stunt.  And show what all of us think about Mario.  Very unlikley though.  But as Mario fans, we should be held responsible for getting the word across

There are two possible reasons for this:

1- Those haters are actually Sonic fans!
2- Those haters must be old, or influenced enough, to dislike the "innocence" (childishness) Nintendo usually offers in their games.

Hope (N Forever): There's nothing wrong with the "innocence" to which you referred. That's simply what it is - innocence. And the stuff about Mario being kiddy is for the most part rubbish and was probably invented by Nintendo-hating idiots (I'm not saying you're one of them); I hope you don't really buy into that sort of thinking. I'm very glad that the Mario theme has kept its innocence; I would be extremely upset if it became like the so-called "mature" crap that's so popular these days.

Just people who dislike Nintendo surely. Just becuase a game is for everyione doesn't make it bad. It is exactly that that makes the Mario series so charming. Thoes people don't know what they're missing.

Pokémon? I'm still shocked it's still going strong even today. I'm so sick of those games. It's totally lost its appeal after so many games. As for Mario, he shall never die! Nintendo isn't close to disappearing yet. It's just annoying to say that Nintendo isn't where the big boys are. The company is trying to appeal to those slightly younger gamers and those who don't appreciate the modern-type games (most of them). I don't believe that Nintendo is going away, but maybe they could try harder. Maybe they should advance the main storyline more than just an adventure out of nowhere (like Mario and Peach getting engaged [shot]). Ha ha ha! Long live Mario! Even if there were 1.5 million PSPs sold in its first week of release, that still will not pull me away from my loyalty!

...I'm not even going to get into that with Pokemon. Rather not start anything...

But I do agree with that, Nintendo's not going anywhere. As long as they have their classic characters, they're not disappearing. Just wait until the Revolution comes out...

I think people are generally either leaving behind video games and going on to better things, or else they think it would be more appropriate to play more "mature" games, or else they just discovered something they like better.  A lot of the people I know DO like Mario, or at least remember playing those games.  The other day after PE I cut across the gym to go to my next class and noticed the piano onstage.  Arbitrarily(or perhaps because I am drawn to play pianos when I catch sight of one), I started playing the Mario themes, and this guy heard and made me play next time after class.  Another guy stopped and listened, and then the Gym teacher came out and listened for a second too. Everyone loves the Underground theme, it seems.  Then today, people were singing random songs at the end of PE in the locker room, and I started singing the pokerap, which I remember the beginning of.  Most people played or watched that show, and everyone left in the room sang the original theme song(" I wanna be, the very best...").

People move on from video games sometimes.  It's just a happy memory, unless they get into the Teen games.  Most people I know who don't remember Nintendo or don't like it are the ones who didn't have video games when they were younger and recently got their first console that wasn't Nintendo, usually a PS2.

If your day is bad, a nice comment at night can change everything.

More appropriate to play "mature" games? If anyone thinks that, they must be dummies. At least if what you mean by "mature" is what I always mean when I put the word in quotes. And don't forget that Mario is really for all ages, not exclusively for little kids.

PS2 sure brings out the prejudice against the good old games in people, doesn't it?

I used "mature" in quotations because it can either stand for the actually reating for the game since most of the games I was referring to are rated at more restricted levels than games rated for "everyone", and also because the image of playing "mature" games at an older age is being promoted as an image of solidarity among other teenagers, and to be accepted into the adolescent norm, one must act like the others to fit in, therefore abandoning any like for games that appear too pre-adolescent to still be considered part of the norm.  In conclusion, that is why I put "mature" in quotation marks.

I just noticed that you only have to change one letter to make "mature" into "manure".  Plus I blame the outlandishness of my response on the fact that I just watched an existentialist movie in which I got my new sig.  Take a look if you want:

Pure being is getting hit in the face by a kickball.

Only little boys who need to play their big boy macho games say that. Oh I want to pretend I can kill cops, and beat up women. I feel like such a MAN now.

Please. People who say Nintendo are dying out, are just little boys, who are mysogynistic and homophobic, and are afraid of women..so they need a video game to reassure them that they're big tough guys.

« Reply #21 on: May 24, 2005, 05:33:59 AM »
Markio, and here I thought you put "mature" in quotations, to point out the irony that you can't be mature, if you think shooting zombies and beating up hookers is a good time game-wise. Well cause, that's why I put "mature" in quotations.

Yeah, I can see it now.  The next Mario game will star Mario (naturally) who can high-jack cars and kill everyone in the mushroom kingdom.  "Here We Go!....To Shoot A Hooker!"  SOMEhow, I don't think that is gonna happen (It's called sarcasm people).  Because if that kind of game DID come out, I'm sure that italian mustachio would lose millions of fans (including me).

It's the exciting stories, interesting plots, awesome jumping, and pure innocence of two plumbers taking on a giant turtle that makes the games great.

Why don''t they just give the stupid rabbit some Trix?

I'm a Nintendo fan, but I'm not a Sony hater, I have friends who own PS2s and XBOXes.
So I know why most people don't like Mario. They don't hate Mario because of the Mario adventure games, RPG games or Racing.
They hate it because of those Mario Party that come out everyear, and those Mario sports games:
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Mario Baseball
that DDR with Mario game
that Mario Soccer game
and I could go on and on. Why not make a Mario Sport game were you have all of those games in 1. Stop using Mario in every game.

I wouldn't even play a sports game unless it had Mario or some similar character in it. Mario is the best!

Ever notice how the name "Playstation" sounds more kiddy than "Gamecube" or "Nintendo 64"?

Yeah, they always put twists of some sort in those kinda games that makes it colorful and n33t. It's the only reason I'm first concerned about a soccer game. XD

I heard a rumor that SM 128 may not come out until the system after the Revolution.  Something about "wanting this game to be so insanely good that the Sunshine will look like a joke."  Of course I can't tell you where I heard this because... I just can't.

I bet that Mario Mix might turn things around for non-Mario fans who have a GameCube.  It looks like a sure hit.  But why can't they have Yoshi and Peach?! (sorry, I'm obsessed now)

As I've said before, I think NEW Super Mario Bros. was the best game at E3.  I think people may love Mario again if they play a game based on his SMB roots.

Super Mario Bros. wasn't kiddie when it came out and it's really not kiddie today.  Nintendo and Mario are considered to be kiddie today because of Sony and Microsoft are pigeon holing Nintendo as a kiddie company as part of a strategy to boost Xbox/PS2 sales.  They are picking on what they consider the weaker of the big three.

The word "but" was not used in this post.

The only game I see non-mario fan would get exited about is the new Mario game for ds, Mario 128 and the next SSB.

Is anyone here has a friend who is a Sony fan and understand them? I doesn't look like it. Looks like ya'll simply get exited of a game just because Mario is in it. It's ok to be a fan, but just because you like a Mario game, that doesn't mean everybody will get exited.

My youngest brother bought his own PS2 and Xbox, but did not have a Nintendo console or handheld until I bought them for him.  Even so, he has always said that Mario games are his favorite.  It's hard for me to interstand this, but apparently it's very common.

"The power of peer pressure is that it works on our psychology, not our intellect. As social animals we are heavily influenced by how the people around us behave, and the quality of our own internal decision making varies widely depending on the environment we currently are in." - Scott Berkun

Maybe the PS2 and Xbox crowd that pigeonholes Nintendo are feeding off one another.  Then again, maybe Nintendo fan boys are.

"That said, the more homogeneous a group of people are in their thinking, the narrower the range of ideas that the group will openly consider. The more open minded, creative, and courageous, a group is, the wider the pool of ideas they’ll be capable of exploring." - Scott Berkun

Maybe they/we are too narrow-minded.  I consider myself to be open minded, but have said that I would not play and Xbox.  Is that a disconnect?  On the other hand, I try most of Nintendo games.  I even own one Pokemon game, but never collected them all.  I think we have a fairly diverse group here.  Different religions and the lack there of.  A fairly broad age range.  Two girls.  Apple and PC people.  Programmers, artists, etc.  Yet, no one, to my knowledge, from TMK/FF visited the Sony booth, and a few of us only walked over the Xbox booth.

I don't think you should try to not play a certain game or console, you should try them all, you never know if there is some game nobody heard about that you'll like. Like me, I never thought I'd like GTA or Enter the Matrix.

« Reply #43 on: May 30, 2005, 12:16:36 PM »
That's true. But if you tried other games and really don't like them all that much, I think it's okay, too. People are allowd to like and dislike what they want. However they should try it first before you make up your mind about something.
Still, I never really liked anything not on a Nintendo system, not even RPGs.
