Video Game Chat / Re: Favorite Video Game Song
« on: December 12, 2012, 06:59:19 PM »
In short, I'll take any final battle song from every major Mario game I've ever played.  That organ piece from SM64 is still one of my favorites because it reminds me fondly of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

I also happen to like Professor Frankly's theme from PM2.  Every time I hear it, I picture Frankly's face photoshopped onto a cardboard cut-out pharaoh dancing in rhythm like a cliché Egyptian.

My silly prediction for Mario's future:

*Colonel KR stares into his conveniently located crystal ball.*

I see... I see...

Disney buys Nintendo, and the first game they launch is... MARIO MOUSE CLUB (Cue Psycho theme)!!!

1984. A whole year before SMB. Do you really think I'd make a mistake like that?

No, but I could use a little less of your attitude, dude.  Without a doubt, your attention to detail precedes you.

And I guess Nintendo has stolen some character designs as well.  I’ve seen artwork for Mario and DK’s first game, and they bear a passing resemblance to Popeye and Bluto, respectively, since Donkey Kong was originally supposed to be a Popeye game.

Hmm.....

....nah.

You may choose to disagree, but seeing that comparison left me ROTFL.

Re: Storm the Albatross
Hmm... Sega stole the side-scrolling platform concept from Nintendo.  I wonder if they've stolen a character design or two.

Rawk Hawk from PM2 is actually Nintendo's way of poking fun at Sonic/Sega.

Think about it.  They have similar eyes that both scream, "I'm God's gift to the world, and you're not," they have similar hairstyles, and they fly through the air at similar speeds while rolled into balls.  It's possible the message that Nintendo is trying to convey is that Sega still has a titanic ego, even if it's not one of the "Big Three" game-making companies anymore.

A brilliant analysis, Kimi.

I find that an intelligible (and often comedic) genre of rap for guys who like video games and other varieties of nerds would be Nerdcore rap.  Check out this video and see how many classic text-based game references you can spot (most of them are from Zork):

I hear a lot of people accusing hip-hop for being the source for much of the racism, sexism, and misogyny in America, but having studied some classes in music history, I would say that hip-hop didn’t create the racism, sexism, and misogyny we have today; it reflects pre-existing racism, sexism, and misogyny.  Hip-hop is basically people who spring primarily from America’s urban poor darkly satirizing the evil things with which white, middle and upper class men are associated.  As a white, middle class guy, I don’t like being reduced to the stereotype of “What can I do with my crotch or my cash?”  All in all, hip-hop boils down to a matter of art imitating life and life imitating art.  If we improve our image as non-racists, non-sexists, and non-misogynists, hip-hop artists probably won’t satirize us middle classmen anymore.

I'm pretty sure Marius and Sodric are related to Dolan and Gooby.

Who?

It's not the greatest fan theory ever.

What? I'm just following instructions!
It's actually kinda funny. I chuckled.

I just saw through your spoiler as I started writing this.  Thanks.

There’s a story of a Romano-British king and a rival from somewhere in Scythia that FORESAW MARIO AND SONIC’S RIVALRY!
Read this article on King Marius of Britain and his rival Sodric, and tell me this is not the greatest fan theory ever: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marius_of_Britain.

Took me a while, but I got what you mean by that...unfortunately.

I think Disney might ruin most Nintendo franchises, especially Zelda and Metroid because they're made for a more mature audience. I bet they would make Samus a little girl and completely change the general Metroid plot by making Samus a flower gatherer and removing a Metroid's ability to suck the life out of something.

Wow... that's a little extreme, although I did once imagine a series of Nintendo-themed parodies of Disney shows like "Samus Aran-tana" and "The Suite Life of Ness and Lucas."
