Italian music of the 80s became very popular in Japan and doesn't surprise that many videogame tunes sound like the most listened kind of music in my country about 20 years ago.

Here is a sample from the song Diamond by Via Verdi. Listen carefully to the last 13 seconds

Super Mario Bros was first released in 1985 and Diamon is dated 1986.

It sounds a LITTLE like SMB Theme, but I don't think it was intentional.

Wow, that's a stretch.  That reminds me of that one "Earthbound reference" in the mailbag that happened to vaguely share about 4 notes.

There are only so many combinations of notes that sound good together in music. There are bound to be repeats of the same few notes somewhere. And besides, just because somebody's Italian, doesn't mean they know about Mario. I mean, he makes a living as a singer, what makes you think that he's  a video game player?
