Game Help / Dead Game
« on: January 07, 2004, 02:30:32 AM »
So I've been wanting to replay Super Mario 64 lately, but it's dead.  Completely.  When I put the cartridge in and turn the system on, the screen doesn't do anything--doesn't come up plain black, or snow, or scrambled.  It just keeps showing the "video" prompt.  I thought something was wrong with the system at first but all my other games work just fine.  I've been keeping them clean and cool and dry and above all all in the same place, but only this one game is acting up.

Then I noticed something else:  the cartridge is a lot lighter than my other N64 games are.  Has something happened to it inside, or fallen out, and I didn't notice?  Just looking inside it looks the same, but I can't see in very far.  Or are all SM64 cartridges significantly lighter than the other N64 games I happen to own, like Starfox?

Mario Chat / MK:DD: Who Are You? (spoilers)
« on: December 06, 2003, 12:48:25 AM »
See what I did there?  It's, like, Nintendo's ad campaign AND the subject of the thread!  I am so "whitty."

Anyway.  Spoilers here, in case you were blinded by my wit in the title and missed it.

For those of you who've played the game, what's the best combination of driver/item user/car you've found so far?  I'm curious to see whether people work better with the characters that are supposed to go together or random combinations.  I've noticed that once you get into 150cc engines and mirror mode, the computer starts mixing it up, whereas in 50cc and 100cc it always uses matching pairs.

I personally can't win the harder races unless I'm using Baby Mario and Baby Luigi together, usually in the Toad car.  (It's funny, I always hated the characters, but now that they're helping me win I think they're kinda cute.  Heh.)

Been awhile since I stopped by here, I see you all are just as cuh-razy as ever.

Game Help / Paper Mario Problem . . .
« on: February 07, 2003, 12:32:24 AM »
Heh, I think I posted this ages ago and didn't get an answer.  It's so silly, but I still can't figure it out.  On the screen where you first visit Bowser's Castle, there is a moat of lava around the castle, and on the other side to the left of the entrance there's a sort of hill with a red ? block on top.  Later, you drain the moat of lava.  But I still can't get over there!  It won't let me just jump into the empty moat from the bridge or the "shore"--there's a barrier there.  If you follow the moat to the right it continues onto another screen but there's no way down there either.  If I could get into the moat, I could get the badge--but I can't find where you go to get into the moat.  And what badge is in that block anyway?  I've long since finished the game, but that badge is going to drive me insane. . . .

Game Help / SSBM Curiousity
« on: July 10, 2002, 02:10:33 AM »
I've been reading game FAQs all over the place for this thing, and there's something I stumbled on that confused me.  Every FAQ I've read gives two methods for unlocking Young Link:

1. Play 500 VS mode matches.
2. Beat classic mode as Link, as Zelda, then as 8 other characters.  (I've also seen this version with just Link and 9 other characters)

I've never done either of these things . . . I just got the game, have never played even one VS mode match, and I've never used Link at all because I really, really hate him.  But Young Link challenged me anyway, randomly, after I beat Classic Mode (I forget who I was using, possibly Jigglypuff?) earlier today.  I lost to him (I suck rather a lot), but he challenged me again after every match I played until I finally beat him and unlocked him.

So my question is, have characters ever challenged you totally at random before?  Or did I do something weird to get this guy bugging me so much?
