Mario Chat / Re: YKYPMGTMW...

''You know female Yoshies exist'' almost sounds like a reference to my post. Or not. But as for knowing that Lena is Bowser's wife, that's one thing I refuse to believe.

63. You insist that any unsuspecting baby with a red cap is the oracle of evil (just look at Baby Mario).

64. You make such a big deal of the number 64, like just now.

65. You keep a stash of vegetables nearby in case you get warts on your face.

66. You sue Doki Doki Panic for ripping off Super Mario Bros. 2

67. Then you sue Japan for making Super Mario USA, claiming it to be another ripoff.

68. You have a mental breakdown trying to figure out if that one character is named Birdo or Catherine (in reference to Wario's Woods, had you not noticed)

69. You actually congratulate Toad being in his first solo game, which was Wario's Woods.

70. Then we realize that Peach is the only other main character who doesn't have a solo game.

71. And we don't care. We pray that we never get to see Peach in a solo game.

72. And true to word, it never happens.

73. In non-related Mario games, you always pretend that the main characters are Mario characters (I know I used to do it).

74. You enjoy playing Mario Is Missing.

75. You plan to keep the Mario Bros. movie for years, in mint condition, only to sell it in 2010 and get no more than $2 for it.

76. You worship Yoshi (which wouldn't be a bad thing, in my opinion).

77. One time you breathe fire from your mouth as a warning to keep all little (and taller) brothers and sisters away.

78. You have a dream that Mario defeats Link, then you swear on your life that it was real and you were a witness.

79. You actually have a movie of Mario defeating Link.

80. You hired a drunk in a ultra bad looking costume to play the part of Link.

81. You hired Arnold Schwartzenegger to play the part of Mario.

82. And Mario says ''Hasta la vista, Linky.''

83. You realize you've submitted all these ideas in one post, you simply don't care, and continue to post more.

84. You can't decide whether to adapt an Italian accent or a Brooklyn accent (although both are probably the same).

85. You become president of DigiPen and transform it to LuigiPen.

86. You tell Shigeru Miyamoto to obliterate all the non-Mario-related franchises, and he actually does it.

87. You realize you don't have that power, and you're thrown out of the Nintendo building quicker than you can say ''Mama Mia.''

88. Whenever something bad happens, you say ''Mama Mia.''

89. Whenever you want to annoy someone, you say ''Hey! Hey! Hey!''

90. You'll blow a decade's worth of allowance to get your grubby hands on absolutely anything Mario related you may have missed, including merchandise.

91. You run a Mario merchandise store.

92. You make the big mistake of stocking up on Waluigi merchandise.

93. You've realized you made THIRTY posts to this thing and must stop now.

94. Then you make one more post for the heck of it.

Video Game Chat / Re: Game Boy Advance rumors...
« on: June 11, 2001, 10:32:16 PM »
Actually, from what I've heard recently, Game Boy Advance would sound like a DISAPPOINTMENT to the partial observer.

Exhibit #1: For the comments on the new games, the reviewer guys complain that they aren't as good as the original SNES versions. And by looking at the overall scores, they're lower than I expected!

Exhibit #2: Compare Rayman 2 to it's Sega counterpart. Compare Pitfall to it's SNES counterpart. GBA somehow doesn't have the graphical power of the ages-old consoles.

Exhibit #3: There's actually not too many well-known games out there.

Exhibit #4: I heard somewhere where these early games push the system almost to its limit. This is not good, because it might mean that second and third generation games won't be looking or playing any better than first generation games.

Result: It will still be successful, oh yes, but it will be a very rough road, and it might not be a billion-seller smash hit handheld. For some reason, Game Boy Color seemed more promising when it came out, and look how pathetic its color capabilities are when it came to showing what it can really do (only four colors to a character? BAD)

It makes me wonder. How can consoles be so amazing in power and such, but handhelds aren't? Maybe they're meant to be like that to maintain small sizes and light weight. But geez, it's about time we get something a little bigger and heavier if it means getting a reasonable handheld that can do games right.

Video Game Chat / Re: Game Boy Advance rumors...
« on: June 11, 2001, 10:23:36 PM »
HELLO, Nintendo Power doesn't confirm them, but they're on the list of future Game Boy Advance games in their latest issue. No wait, that was Nintendo's new Game Boy Advance magazine, which is more like a big player's guide spoiling every secret than one of its regular magazines.

Although it's looking good and everything, it's amazing how some of GBAs games clearly don't have graphic quality above even Super NES. For example, Rayman 2. That was on a Sega system, but still. In comparison, Rayman 2 looks embarrassing.

Sure, it has a lot of colors, but it looks really washed out and it really doesn't blend together like it should. As for a few of the other games, it's amazing they can't reach Super NES graphic quality even. Only Super Mario Advance, F-Zero, and a few others get up to that quality.

And remember, Super Mario Advance's graphic quality and backgrounds are EXACTLY like that of Super Mario Bros. 2 in Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES. If you look closely, the backgrounds are exactly the same. Talk about lazy!

Because of this, I fear that GBA won't be able to reach the graphic quality of SMW2 and Yoshi's Story, and will end up not being as great as the original SNES versions.

Mario Chat / Re: New Mario Movie
« on: June 11, 2001, 10:04:03 PM »
Oh boy, this post has ten paragraphs. My longest post yet! Fear...

I've never been able to imagine any video games translating well into movies. And besides, movies are one-shot deals. Video games constantly spawn sequels and rip-offs to keep things fresh without being the same thing over and over.

And besides, think about it. Super Mario Bros., with all the stuff in it, being made into a movie? Well, you saw how the movie turned out. Bad idea. However, I seemed to like the movie (I was bummed out to see how Yoshi looked, though).

My favorite part from the Mario movie? Well, rather a quote I remember. Mario: We're the aliens! Luigi: Cool! hehe, that was funny

But I still had problems identifying characters. Having Daisy in it was different from having Princess like I expected. And those two tall dudes that acted as Bowser's cohorts? I didn't even knew who they were until I paid attention. They're supposed to be the KOOPALINGS? Please. No resemblance whatsoever.

I've noticed that the ONLY video game movies that translate well are animated. Look at Pokemon. I personally hate Pokemon, but the movie went along well with fans of the series. And of course there's other animated stuff like the cartoons that went about real well.

I'm still waiting to find out if a Star Fox anime cartoon really exists, and I want proof of it as quickly as possible! Some pictures would be grand.

So back to a new Mario movie, it would fare much better if it was animated. And by now you'd think there would be some technology that would make anyone's voice sound like a certain voice. If so, this means that if the previous actors didn't die off years ago (I'm assuming they're not around anymore), we could have the old voices once again acting for us.

But since that won't happen, I'd much rather have people that sound like the original actors be the voices for a new movie. And I'm talking about the voices for the cartoon. I wonder, who does Yoshi's voice? I already know the name of the guy who does Yoshi's normal ''Yoshi's Story'' voice, but what about the cartoon?

Anyway, I'm done ranting. It might also be nice to reveal some of the secrets of the cartoon, like maybe showing a good candidate for Bowser's wife. Hey, those wacky Japanese have drawn weird characters before, so surely they're capable of drawing up new characters.

And if Square had something to do with the movie, that might be its saving grace. Square was responsible for making Super Mario RPG excellent, so why not?

Mario Chat / Re: Super Smash Bors. 2 - THE character list
« on: June 11, 2001, 09:48:42 PM »
Ok, enough about Zelda and her mental problem. Anyway, IGN.com, which is still giving a bit of free news, has confirmed a special mode in Smash Bros. Melee where you can see a gallery of several characters. It's not known as of yet if they will be secret characters or not, but the Pit thing was from the gallery.

Now here's the cool part: the gallery features these characters which are full 3D, and you can fully rotate them and so on. I'm downloading a little movie of it right now. Here's the characters known to be in the gallery right now:

Andross (polygon version from SNES Star Fox)
Dixie from DKC2 (!)
Donkey Kong Jr.
A closeup of a pink Kart from Mario Kart 64 (probably Peach's kart)
A Koopa Troopa (it's not Kooper, but it's still good!)
An actual Metroid, no kidding (cool!)
Marin from the Zelda series
Meta-Knight from Kirby Super Star
Misty from Pokemon
Pit from Kid Icarus (duh)
Plum from Mario Golf (oh great)
Raven from Paper Mario
Ridley from Super Metroid (OH YEAH!!!)
Stanley the Bugman (you knew it was coming)
Waddle-Doo from the Kirby series

And the other gallery characters that I don't recognize are:

Ayumi
Disk-Kun (some 64DD mascot)
Mach Rider
Napsi
Tamagon

Hey, at least Ridley make the list, and so did Pit and Stanley and an actual Metroid and DK Jr. and Dixie and Waddle-Doo and Andross and Koopa. I mentioned all those because most of those names were in your lists, right? Let's see what other characters you think will make it into the gallery!

Mario Chat / Re: The next "Mario" game
« on: June 11, 2001, 03:34:48 PM »
Uh, yeah. My opinions are as follows, although they go against many of your guy's opinions:

1. Get rid of Toad (I don't like him for some reason)
2. Yes, make Yoshi a playable character (since when has he lost his purpose? Oh, right, Yoshi's Story, but maybe Mario could ride Yoshi and the duo would be a playable character)
3. Bring back Waluigi!
4. Bring back Wario!
5. Bring back Kamek!
6. Do NOT bring Baby Mario

And you just gave me a thought. Who here thinks Stanley the Bugman will pop up in Smash Bros. Melee, hmm? First, he was from an NES game. Second, he was long forgotten. Third, he's just perfect for the game.
Well, so is Dino Riki, but who remembers him?
Or even Mark and Bert from Monster Party!
Remember Bert?

In the next Mario game, it would be so neat if Mario, Luigi, Peach (maybe), and Yoshi, all controlled by human players, would undertake the adventure at the same time.

And if Yoshi ever starred in another solo adventure, let's just hope they don't drive the cutesy factor into the wall, don't bring back Baby Mario, and actually have some good reason to go through the adventure. The storylines we've been given just don't go well with it.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario Adventure Comic (read!)
« on: June 11, 2001, 03:23:48 PM »
Oh, you're right, I forgot about that. How could I forget about Boshi? But still, the comics came first. I don't think we'll be seeing any Yoshies like Boshi coming into any more games anytime soon.

And besides, Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario both had strange characters. Note that they're both RPGs, and they have a tendency to go crazy on stuff like enemies.

And sometimes you just want to stick to what works. For example, in Mario All-Stars for the SNES, the developers totally goofed by giving Mario red overalls instead of the regular blue overalls he always wears. So if Mario were to wear red overalls from now on, it wouldn't really be a welcome change. More like a Mario game you wouldn't buy.

billy chilly, ''physically deviant Yoshies'' are somewhat earth-shattering to me considering that we didn't get to see the first Yoshi like that until Paper Mario came out several years after Yoshi's debut in Super Mario World.

Of course, the comics changed that around, and showed to me that those Japanese have at least considered making Yoshies look physically different.

And no, I haven't seen the Yoshi in Paper Mario because I suck at the game. This is why I was asking for photos of it in the first place and never received them!

Yeah, I guess I was getting goofy there. But still, the comics are a lot different than the other official stuff, as are the cartoons. Oh, and by the way, I didn't notice any of this ''Angelfire does not allow direct linking'' stuff. Besides, only one of the pics I have here links to an Angelfire image on my site, the rest link to my Tripod site.

Still, to me, anime can stretch the boundaries quite a long ways. As for the ''official'' drawing, keep in mind that Nintendo offered this to NP subscribers way back who knows when. Probably a Nintendo of Japan thing, but it's still a comic made by official people. And this is the first time I've ever seen anyone draw this sort of stuff for the Mario universe, so that's the point I was trying to get across.

Well, I'm not good at pricing stuff for eBay, since I have no idea what is normal for stuff like that. I've never gone on eBay myself, so I wouldn't know.

But it looks like one of those little books that give tips on several game boy games instead of a comic. I remember getting a book one time telling about how to get past tough parts in SNES games. It had a picture of some clairevoyant (fortune telling person) on it.

Anyway, I bet that gameboy thing was another one of those book things at that time, which was back in something like 1992-1993.

Lots of memories, like how it told how to get past the Sunsoft difficulty on Lemmings. I'd say $50-$70. And if it's one of those ultra rare comics like the Super Mario Adventure comics, I'd bring up the price even higher.

I have a feeling that I ''under-guessed.''

Since I have no idea what to price these things, I want to hear other people's opinions on the matter.

Okay, here's my thoughts on the Panel de Pon issue, and some of you might complain. But these are my views on the matter.

Yoshi did not rip off Panel de Pon. Okay, so it did, but think about it people! Who in their right mind would buy a game that has female fairies in it? I'd like to hear someone say they'd buy this game if it came unedited to USA.

I know graphics don't matter, but seriously. It's worse than making Pokemon rip off the game!

I welcome the change of Yoshi making it in Panel de Pon, because I would have never bought a fairy version of it. It's like saying you'd buy a horse racing game with Sailor Moon characters. Just not happening for me.

But yes, Tetris Attack ripped off Panel de Pon. And now, Pokemon Puzzle League ripped off Tetris Attack! That was the WORST excuse for a Pokemon game I've ever seen.

Just like how Matt Hoffman's Pro Biker or whatever totally rips off Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Look at the angles and gameplay! Identical. The BOX COVER. Identical. A TOTAL rip-off, and a sorry excuse for a game.

So there. It seems no one cares about rip offs. They always buy the new games. I would be glad with everyone flocking to Tetris Attack instead of Panel de Pon (even if their cutesy factor is about the same), but I hate seeing people flock to Pokemon Puzzle League. ANYTHING with Pokemon sells! There could be a game about a tea party, and I bet it would be popular if Pokemon was in it!
