Mario Chat / Re: Mario's Planet

Why not call it something like "Planet of the Seven Kingdoms."  I know you mentioned six but seven has a cooler ring to it :?)

Mario Chat / Re: Why are Video Games not a sport?????
« on: September 22, 2001, 01:23:20 PM »
I think that the reason why video games aren't considered sports is because of the fact that the term "sports" has been stretched a little too far already. Hardcore sports fans don't even really consider Golf a sport, let alone Chess.  The only reason Chess is considered a sport is so that people won't consider the "sports" to be associated with "idiot."  Yes, video games take alot of skill (some of them at least) but the concept of sports is associated mostly with activity other than just moving your hands.  With the exception of Dance Dance Revolution, video games don't provide that much exercise.

Of course, just because it's not officially a sport doesn't mean you can't play them at school.  My friends and I organize regular Super Smash Brothers tournaments at lunch at our high school.  Just find a teacher who has access to a TV (or digital projector) and ask if you can play during lunch.

So video games aren't considered sports. At least now we can't be called "dumb jocks" for playing them :?).

Mario Chat / Re: Yoshi & Baby Mario VS DK
« on: September 19, 2001, 09:18:37 PM »
Well, first of all, you're talking about a major time-warp here.  In a fight between baby DK and baby mario/Yoshi, I would say definitely babymario/yoshi.  Full grown DK versus baby mario/yoshi...I'm afraid I'm gong to have to say DK.

--Considering that in Yoshi's Island the slightest touch would cause baby Mario to cry his eyes out and float away, limiting Yoshi's lifespan to about 30 seconds at most, that really wouldn't help against a giant monkey with a huge armspan
--baby Mario has no experience or wisdom.  We all know that with the exception of Star Mario, Yoshi did all the work.  Yoshi is a green dinosaur that ends up getting caught by Bowser's children in Super Mario World and needed saving by Mario, so we know he can't fend for himself against anything big and ugly.
--DK, although big and clumsy, packs a whallop. He'd knock Mario off Yoshi's back so fast, it'll make both their heads spin. I doubt that Yoshi's tongue attack would do much good.  DK would probably grab the tongue or the taste of DK would make Yoshi do that cryface thing.

Mario Chat / Re: Dark World's Darkness
« on: September 19, 2001, 09:04:41 PM »
Well, I guess in addition to my previous post, I should add that it's really wherever Bowser builds his Keep for the particular game that is plunged into darkness.  Although it may not be called "Dark Land" in SMRPG, we can assume it from the fact that the only "light" that we see in SMRPG is from the giant sword cutting through the dark clouds.

Also, if I were Bowser, I would relocate my keep whenever Mario kicked my ass.  So if that's the case, then the only "Dark World" is the area directly around wherever he lives. Pretty cool FX.

Game Help / Re: Coolest thing you've ever done
« on: September 16, 2001, 06:40:07 PM »
I'd have to say one of the coolest things I've done was on the airships in Dark Land in SMB3.  I managed to time it just right so that I hit the head of every Rocky Wrench and nothing else until that one part of the level midway through where there aren't any.  Then I finished off the level by doing the same thing! I've never been able to reproduce it or even come close. It was one of those moments where there was just enough sweat on the controller buttons and the adrenaline was just right.

Oh, and in case people are wondering, I had a racoon tail, not a P-Wing.

Most frustrating thing was in Mario RPG when I was in a rush to get through and I forgot to free the residents of Seaside Town after defeating their clones. It didn't occur to me at all to look around so I ended up combing all the levels before it to see if I had missed anything. After about 4 trips back and fourth, I looked around and freed them by accident. Ignorance -> Frustration

Are you talking about Super Mario Bros. 1? And if so, are you talking about the maze that starts with the Pirhana Plant pipe or the other maze castle?

Mario Chat / Re: Kamek VS MArio
« on: September 16, 2001, 01:51:04 PM »
Well, I think that above all else, we see that Kamek is indeed a koopa, and one that wears glasses at that. Every koopa's weakness (with the exception of Bowser of course) is the jump on the shell and the kick off.  Mario is indubitably the master of jumping, so this gives him a huge advantage.  I say that the battle would go like this:  Mario knocks Kamek's glasses off with a fireball or surprise kick to the back of the head.  Kamek is unable to retaliate because he doesn't know where to cast any magic spells. Mario jumps on his back and sends him back to mama.

Bowser: Who''s there?
Mario: Its''a me.
Bowser(to Troopa): Get the gun

Mario Chat / Re: Dark World's Darkness

Well, I think that Dark Land is in perpetual Darkness, as has been the trend with wherever Bowzer dwells. We saw in Super Mario World that the area around his castle was always dark with an occasional bolt of lightning.  Also, all the levels in Dark Land had dark skies, giving the impression of perpetual darkness.

Then again, if the background gave us any idea of the amount of sun/moon light, worlds 1-7 would be arid wastelands and world 8 a frozen tundra.

By the way, I'm new :?)

Video Game Chat / Nintendo and Sega: So Happy Together....
« on: May 20, 2002, 07:22:27 AM »
Here's an interesting tid-bit for the masses:

"Sega brings F-Zero to the Gamecube
It's a bit like Batman teaming up with the Penguin
Nintendo and Sega, two videogame companies notorious for their console 'war' of the early 1990s, are in bed together once again. The companies announced recently that Nintendo would be outsourcing its popular "F-Zero" franchise to Sega developer Amusement Vision, who have a really fantastic company name. The Sega-owned development house will be working on two F-Zero games simultaneously, one, entitled F-Zero AC, for the new Gamecube-based arcade board, codenamed "Triforce", and one for our beloved Gamecube, entitled, get this, F-Zero GC.
Sega noted that the arcade and home version of the games will interact through the use of Nintendo brand memory cards. It is unknown at this point just how the two games will interact, but this reporter speculates that they'll combine to form some sort of mecha zord robot. Amusement Vision is the famed developer of the critically acclaimed Gamecube launch title "Super Monkey Ball" and the similarly critically acclaimed (but monkey-lacking) arcade title "Daytona USA."
