Mario Chat / Re: A Game for Peach!? Say It Be So!!
« on: October 30, 2004, 12:57:00 AM »
But if he'd said "say it ain't so!" that would have been implying he disapproved of the game.  He changed it for a reason.

That said, as a female SMB fan, I'd be just as eager to see a Bowser-centric game as I am to see a Peach-centric game.  Both sound awesome to me.  Too bad I wasn't planning on buying a DS, but eh, eh . . . *torn*  But no, I have not wanted a Peach game since my childhood.  What I'm holding out for is Paper Wario, heh.

(There are actually a lot of Bowser fangirls out there.  And when I say fangirl I do mean in the "he's so hawt!" sense, yes.  It's a bit . . . off.)

Mario Chat / Re: Who's got Paper Mario?
« on: October 30, 2004, 12:34:04 AM »
I love PM2.  My only complaint was that parts of it were too similar to the first game--I don't mean graphics or gameplay or anything like that, because I like that kind of consistency, but actual storylines.  I kept thinking "Where have I seen this before?  Oh yeah."  Still, since PM2 does it all better the second time around, that's not a real complaint.  I like/d it more than PM1 because there aren't any levels that bore me--whenever I replay the first Paper Mario, I get as far as Flower Fields and then quit because the game doesn't interest me at all beyond that point.  With PM2 I was hooked all the way through.

After 45 hours, I'm . . . not actually certain I'm done yet.  I don't just mean not having done the Pit of 100 Trials or the last few troubles on the Trouble Board either (I'll go back and do that tonight)--I mean that I actually cannot tell whether I have beaten the game or not.  A couple of things make me believe there's another (hidden?) chapter left to do, despite appearances.  I guess to say any more would be a spoiler.

Edited to fix my 60 hours to, eh, 40-45 hours.  My save slot DOES say 60 hours and that's what I was going by, but I forgot it counts the time when you have the game paused too.  If I'm in the middle of something good I tend to just pause while I go to class/out with friends/eat/etc.

Also to say that anyone who thinks this game is pornographic is, er, seriously repressed.  I was amused by Flurrie crushing the enemies with her "stage presence" though, ahaha.  Wonder if there were any Sailor Moon fans on the writing crew.

I did think some of the subplots in the game were sort of twisted for kids though.  But I love that sort of thing!

Which colors are the rarest and which are the easiest to get?  I didn't even know until reading this that you could get different colors--duh.  Heh.

My Yoshi is pink with green hair.  His name is Poposhi.

. . . they're using Blink 182?  Oh man, ouch.  I think I'd rather play the Japanese versions if it's stuff like that.

Mario Chat / Re: What is the "shredder"?
« on: August 09, 2004, 01:44:10 AM »
I've never noticed my attack or defense power go down after he uses it.  I've been wondering for years what it's supposed to do--I just call it the "Phew, I get to live for another turn" attack.  I think Culex uses it too.

Maybe it is something like removing the effects of potions.  I tend not to use the potions, so I wouldn't notice.

Hee hee.  Shredder.  That new TMNT series on CN is absolutely awful.

Mario Chat / Re: Yoshi and the Yoshi-theme: Abused!?

I think you do us a great disservice to assume we want to see this art because we're horny or something, and that everyone who asks for a link is male.  Because, you know, it couldn't possibly be because it's the subject we're debating with you.  I can understand why you won't link here (I'm pretty sure it's against TOS for one thing) and I'm not encouraging you to do so but I don't see how giving the artist's name out or sending private e-mails hurts anyone.  I find the whole "all you horny boys out there want me to link to Koopa Sex but I WON'T because it's wrongful ABUSE of the characters and will corrupt the children" thing mildly offensive.  Why mention the websites that way at all?

I still don't see how any of this constitutes "abuse," or what you think should be done about it, if anything.  *shrugs*

Edited because even mild British slang can't get around these obscenity filters.  Oh, you guys are good.  ;)

When I first clicked this topic I thought it was going to be another one of those long "Is Mario hitting Yoshi?" debates that tend to spread through these boards every year or so, heh.

To answer your question, I don't see how any of those things "abuses" Yoshi.  I mean granted, I'm old and cynical and bidding on a YGO yaoi doujinshi on eBay later tonight, but they're only fanworks, and frankly I've seen worse.  Also, copyright laws in Japan are different--it's perfectly legal, for example, to create a sexually explicit and/or deviant comic of someone else's copyrighted characters, even characters aimed at a very young audience, and sell it for commercial profit.  Once again I have seen a number of offputting Mario fancomics for sale and they're Japanese characters, and it's not illegal.

All that is moot anyway because I still don't really see how you can abuse a fictional character.  It's not like the porn sites are marketed for children.

Edited to add that I missed your acknowledgment that the art wasn't illegal, but my point still stands.  Oh, and I'm very curious about this site you refuse to name, heh.  *shifty*

As much as I hate to be That Girl, I have a topic on this a ways down the page.

But I use Baby Mario and Baby Luigi in the Toad car.

All IQ tests are a bit off but online ones in particular--I've taken my fair share (they're addictive, aren't they?) and gotten scores ranging from 108 to 158, so in other words I know nothing more about it than I did before.  I'd imagine it's somewhere inbetween there but closer to the former--once you get to be my age (I'm so decrepit at 19) your IQ levels off a bit because of how it's calculated.

It doesn't help that I once knew a guy who was writing one for a website and he ended up being a complete psycho, heh.

there aren't any sexual innuendos...

Actually I would dispute that.  Not that there are MANY, or that they're not debatable and extremely subtle, but I'd say there have been a few references made, particularily in Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario.

As for whether I've been teased about liking Mario--no, because if people are going to tease you they're going to find a reason to do so no matter what, and so I avoid them.  In other words I don't (or didn't, I'm not in high school anymore) talk about Mario to the kind of people who would tease me about something like that, since they're not my friends anyway.  I did have a Wiggler keychain on my bag for awhile and got nothing but positive comments, for what that's worth.

Mario Chat / Re: Question Regarding Yoshi(s)

There's more than one in SMB2, actually--they come in three colors and spit out different things, so I don't think it's all the same Birdo.  (Or is the three colors thing only in SMAS?)

Edited because I misread a post.

Hey, I remember that thread, IS.  I don't know what my first TMK post said--I've been here for a very long time, but so sporadically that I feel like a newb every time I come back.  (I tend to take like 8 months off at a time.)

I don't think I ever did find the 21st red coin.  Well, now I have something to do tonight.  Cheers!
