Mario vs Sonic: Who will win? For years, ever since the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Sega MasterDrive (before Sega Genesis) came out, the two companies have been battling with each other; trying to  see who can create the best game characters...

I'm a HUGE fan of Mario (and Nintendo), but I also love Sonic (and Sega). When will the Mario-vs.-Sonic/Nintendo-vs.-Sega war end?

Another thing:
I've thought about getting a Sega Dreamcast and buying Sonic Adventure for it... Is it worth it?

Well, I think that many of us are disappointed at Sega`s current situation. Bluntly, Sega`s dying. Pretty much dead now. Sure, they were one of the biggest names, but now they`re almost nothing. Dreamcast doesn`t stand a chance against GAMECUBE and PS2 or even X-Box. It`s a shame too. Sega is going to begin makeing games for handheld systems, though. What`s the first thing you think of when you think of handheld video games?? Maybe we`ll see a Sonic Game Boy Advance game in the near future.

What do you mean they'll keep making games for hand-held consoles? The only hand-held console that has Sega on it so far is Neo Geo Pocket...

And Sonic will NEVER be on Game Boy. Nintendo wouldn't allow Sega to make a game for their system.

I've always wanted to see a Super Smash Bros.-type game with Mario vs. Sonic... THAT would be cool...

Actually Sega is gaining back there popularity with Dreamcast, there only mistake is that they put all there effort into sports games. i for one hat sports games. As for X box beating Dreamcast? Not a chance. I personaly belive that it's not going to last and be another 3DO or CD-i.

I have always been a fan of Sega.  I still love my Genesis/Sega CD/32X, and Sega has always ranked among the top 5 in my mind as far as game developers go.  I do hate to see them struggling now, but I wouldn't say that Sega is dead or dying.  Remember that they have always had a much larger fan base in Japan (proportionally) than in the US.

Okay. That's a bunch of crap! Where did you hear that Nintendo and Sega are joining together? IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! NEVER! Sega and Nintendo will never join together, even if the fate of the videogame universe depended on it!

That happened in a dream I once had, but I doubt real life will follow suit.  The two companies have been rivals for too long.

I've loved Mario and Sonic. As for the dreamcast, i don't think it's worth it. Just go out and rent Sonic Adventure and a Dreamcast. Dunno, maybe you'll think I'm full of Gyshel Greens. Sonic Adventure was a wonderful Sonic game- it nearly brought a tear to my eye. My only sadness is that I didn't have a memory card, and so I'd have to play through quests over and over again! Ahh, so it goes!

Okay... Now here's another question:

Who's better, Nintendo or Sega?
Who's better, Mario or Sonic?

After seeing the situation at hand, I think the Dreamcast is going to stay on top of the competition until GameCube is released. A lot of people are refraining from buying the lame-at-release PS2 which is full of problems and no halfway decent release titles. X-Box is like a PC that you can't upgrade. Anyone who wants one is just going to use their PC instead.

Basically, GameCube and Dreamcast are the rival consoles this time round. Maybe PS2 will join the race, but most people are placing their faith in Nintendo to do something spectacular - and I expect they will.

As usual, in choosing between Sega and Nintendo and their characters I'll side with Mario and friends all the time. But that's just my prejudice. I doubt whether one could actually say that one is definitely worse than the other.

Now, I've always been a major Nintendo fan (for years, I've been playing games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, etc. and I've never gotten tired of them)... But now that PlayStation 1 is doing pretty well, I've started to go towards that realm of gaming also... In other words: I LIKE PLAYSTATION AND NINTENDO THE SAME! Too bad Sony has no mascot... Or do they? I've never really liked Sega because all their games were (and still are) crap compared to Nintendo...

PlayStation 2... it sucks! There's hardly a library of good games for it yet... Sega Dreamcast was even better at it's launch! Same with Nintendo 64! But I think the good ol' PlayStation 1 will do just fine in the gaming market. It's got a ton of cool games for it!

I GOT A NINTENDO 64 YESTERDAY (Sunday, December 17, 2000) FOR MY BIRTHDAY PARTY! I'M NOW 16 YEARS OLD!

I like both the same. I'll always have a place in my heart for both Mario and Sonic. Neither side is the best, sega has some things Nintendo doesn't and same for Nintendo. When I was little the only differace to me was the system, I would play both Mario and Sonic for hours, and I still haven't changed my mind about it.

If there's a good game on a console then I'll enjoy it. I tend to sit closer to Nintendo on this one because I find I enjoy a LOT more of their games than any other company.

PSX had FF7 and 8 and Metal Gear Solid which were all great games.

DC has quite a few good games for it now.

N64 has tonnes of games that I want. I have over 20 N64 games, half of which I still play regularly, and even that is only a portion of the games I want for the console.

Hmmm...a lot of people have been out of the news recently. Well, I'll fill you guys in.

At the end of December, The New York Times reported that Nintendo was in talks to buy out Sega for $2 billion. Very exciting news indeed. However, the news was proved false after both companys denied any buyouts. Anyway, just recently, a news report came out stating that Sega was to develop for Game Boy Advance. Again, this is just a rumor, but this story seems more likely to come true. Sega has always been interested to develop handheld games. Personally, I would love to have Sonic on my Game Boy Advance. Wouldn't you? :)

As for the Xbox, EGM (Electronic Gaming Magazine) has recovered pictures of the Xbox design and its controller. Microsoft's ticked off now, I bet. Cut and paste these into your browser if you want:

Ugly, isn't it? ;) That's enough news for now.

Sega teaming up with Nintendo? That's horrible news! Why in the hell would Sega team up with Nintendo if the two companies have been competing with each other ever since the very beginning...? IT'S JUST NOT LOGICAL!

If Sega wants to make games for handheld systems, why don't they just bring back the Game Gear?

well now it's official (in case you've all been in a cave on mars for the past month with your fingers in your mouth and your eyes shut ) that sega is working for other systems (mainly nintendo) sonic will have a game on GBA it is OFFICIAL. as for an RPG made by Seg and Nintendo? there is a rumour of that going around again. it's very possible now since Sega is now a software developing company.

Future seems perfect, doesn't it? Sega working for Nintendo... WOW! The bad news (that everyone know) are that Sega will publish games also for other companies, such as Sony, those !%$&*. I'm not saying nothing new here, not breaking news, I'm just willing to express my opinion. And I will never think that Sonic is at the level of Mario, but I still like him and his echidna partner and this little naif fox friend. So if Sega makes good games for GCN I will buy them without any problem and even with pleasure.

Nintendo rocks, Sony sucks, and Sega doesn't matter any more.

It's my opinion that N's been producing some pretty crappy games as of late...Sony's popularity is rising, almost entirely held upon the shoulders of Square. FF forever. Yes. o.o

(Mind you, I have not played Paper Mario or CBFD, even though I want to. o.o)

sega is going to stop production of the dreamcast, and it's gonna become one of those 3rd party game designers (like square). and im pretty sure, actually, sonic is going on the gba. remember-these are NOT rumors. they have been confirmed (except maybe the last one).

They're only stopping production of the Dreamcast cuz they're losing more money on it than they are gaining.

Controversial message board. I love both Sonic and Mario. when i was in elementary school i'd run home just to sit in front of the Tv with my bro and play Mario all day. Sonic is great, and there is nothing wrong with saving animals. Sonic Adventure was sorta lacking, but Sonic Adventure 2 will be a lot better because they actually put time and effore into it. Sega and Nintendo teaming up would be a pretty cool thing. The games would turn out weird though. As for "Whos Better?" thats an opinion question, you cant pull out facts and say, Marios better because or Sonics' better because...I mean they've both had great careers and will both be around for a long time hopefully. the gaming market is a lot better with 3 systems (Playstation, Dreamcast, and Nintendo) because it gives people OPTIONS and thats the good thing. Not everyone in the world wants to play Mario, or Sonic, maybe they wanna play Metal Gear, or vice versa (three ways) Think about what it would be like with Sonic or Mario gone. I know for one my life would be a lot more boring because i spend a lot of time on both. Theres no point in arguing over whos better, because in the end they both win. (Crash Bandicoot 4eva!)

It's already ended. Sega's reverted to a software company, and they'll be making games for various consoles, including a Sonic Advance.

Well, to tell you the truth, I am a big fan of both Sonic and Mario. But I slightly like Sonic better. But that doesn't matter. The main reason why I like Sonic games better than Mario games is because replay value. Most Mario games around have very little or even no replay value. Sonic games, on the other hand, are just the opposite, and are JAMPACKED with replay value. Don't get me wrong. There has never been a Mario game that has more replay value than a Sonic game.

Otherwise, Sonic and Mario are pretty much equal.
