Author Topic: Your favorite Super Mario level(s)  (Read 5520 times)

« on: July 06, 2005, 01:31:52 AM »
This topic is pretty self-explanitory. Post your favorite Super Mario Bros (any of them) level(s), and a reason why.

In Super Mario Bros. 1, I love World 4-1. It is fun to try to run non-stop in that level (on my NES I did manage to do a start-to-finish run without stopping, but on the emulator the pirahna plants always get me XD).

In Super Mario Bros 3, I think the Tanks in World 8 are a blast. Literally.

In Super Mario World, I would always go mess around in the fourth Bowser's Dome place (the one with the lava and the Chargin' Chucks), because it is fun to dodge them and watch them die in the lava. Other places I like are Star World 4 and the Special World area shown on the Title Screen, just because.

in Super Mario 64, my favorite area is the Lava area in the basement, because it is fun to knock people in the lava (wheefun!).

In The Lost Levels, I discovered a favorite level recently, but I just can't seem to remember...

I only mention that because I usually have to deliberate when picking a favorite level, but this one just popped out at me.  It was a blast--challenging but beatable on the first try.  So, I guess you could say I liked its balance.

Another stand-out is Cookie Mountain from Super Mario World.  It seems like such a nice place to be--like the perfect summer day.

I also like a lot of levels in chocolate land.  I like the first one (with the fire dinos).  It's a lot like Cookie Mountain, and I like getting the 3-up moon.  I also like the one with pipes that take you different places depending on time and coins.  I like this one because, even after so many years, I still feel like there are secret places to be discovered.  Lastly, I like the underground one with moving grass platforms and boiling, hot chocolate.  This one I like because of the colors of the inside of the cave--the dark, lush greens of the grass covering the ruddy, exposed earth.  Plus, it's got maybe my favorite secret in the entire game.

You know, this put me in a good mood.  :)  Thanks for asking.  I enjoyed hearing yours.

I'm a sucker for SMB's 4-1 also.

However, is it possible to run nonstop on the SMBDX version of 4-1 or did they change something? I was trying to show my brother that it was possible, but I used SMBDX and it seemed impossible. When I play the NES SMB, it seems really easy. What's the dealio?

I liked Level 8-2 in Super Mario Bros. cause that crazy Lakitu chases Mario. From Super Mario World, I like Ghost Houses. My favorite courses from SMB3, was the 6th world in the clouds. I also like the Glitz Pit in Paper Mario: TTYD. Just a few of my favorite levels.

Is it because of the toxic air?

The ghost house levels in Super Mario World.
The snow and jungle levels in Yoshi's island.

I like running non-stop in 2-3 of Super Mario Bros. I also like to do it in 4-2, as well.
EDIT: Whoops, I meant 4-1, not 4-2.

I think the fifth world of Super Mario Bros 3 is the cloud world, not the sixth one.  I think it goes: Normal, Desert, Sea, Giant, Cloud, Ice, Pipe, Bowser's Keep.  Not that it matters, I knew what you were talking about when you said "cloud".

SMB: 8-4(The princess ISN'T in another castle!)
4-2(Love the warps and plus it's already an underground level which has the cool music.)

SMB2: 7-2(I know the way through Wart's Castle, and almost all the music is that cool Underground music.  ALL the underground songs rock!)

SMB3: 1-3(Warp whistle and so classic a level.)
Any Fortress(Great music, I can't deny it.)

SMW: Also Awesome.

SM64: Jolly Roger Bay(Also another personal song favorite, and the mist for the first star gives it a nice look.)
Wet-Dry World(Great Song, great strange look to it, great background if you look past the world's edge.)
Tall, Tall Mountain(Great slide, MUSHROOMS, very Mario-esque.)

SMS: Noki Bay(The songs and waterfall world and wall kicking redeem this world from boring.  Very ocean-y)
Painta Village(So fun, okay song, big trees, MUSHROOMS, Night sky, everything!)

SMB - Level 4-3 with the kinoko mushrooms, i love that level!
SMB2 - Level 4-1 is really fun, just slippin' and slidin' away.
SMB3 - Level 6-8 has always been a favourite of mine.
SMW - Butter Bridge pwns
SMW2 - I can't remember what it's called, but it's a moving level in the sky.
SM64 - Cool, Cool Mountain is too too awesome.
SMRPG - Nimbusland, the thought of a town in the sky is just relaxing.
SML - Level 3-3 with the boulders in the sky.
SML2 - One of the tree zone levels
SMS - Ricco Harbour is rather relaxing
MK64 - Bowser Castle chya!

Oh yes, I forgot one of my all time favorites in Super Mario Bros. 1. World 18-1, or I-1. I accessed VIA three Game-Genie codes in the SMB Cheats area of the site, two which I kept the same and the third which I took apart so it could be used to access other levels. What it is is a very, VERY glitched up version of World 3-3 that manages to still keep its stability. I have a DOC file that covers many of these "lost levels" in detail, but I have to find it. Another is World 9-1, a highly unstable underwater 6-2. There is also another highly unstable level that is an overworld 3-4, but I forget what World it is...

My favorite SMB (1) levels are:

World 1-2: This is where you practice the Minus World glitch.

From the Japanese version of SMB 2:

All of World 9, because it is a world you can't get to unless you complete Worlds 1 to 8 without warping.

Please save the Japanese Minus World. We need a Minus World which we can beat!

Lesse here:

SMB1: I always liked 6-3 for the scenery.
SMB2: 3-3. Really neat level design.
SMB3: 6-5. It's SO EVIL. I love watching people fail at this one.
SMB2J: 8-2. Another evil trick.
SMW: I've always liked Chocolate Island 5. Don't know why.
SMW2: 4-4. Best level in any Mario game. Ever. Secret 5 of SMA3 is my second favorite level of all time.
SM64: I always liked Lethal Lava Land and Tall Tall Mountain.
YS: Frustration and Torrential Maze (3-4 and 2-4, respectively).

I know there's other games I missed. Weeeee.
