General Chat / Re: Who else pronounces URL like Earl?
« on: May 18, 2010, 10:56:39 AM »
*squawk* Nevermore!

I rarely say it, so I'm happy saying U-R-L. Easier to remember than URI at any rate. Just like how I don't bother pronouncing http:// or www. for web addresses, since it's mostly unnecessary. Although it does drive me crazy when a missing www. makes all the difference on whether you can access a website (I'm used to the idea that a domain will either be www.domain.threeLetterThing or smugleaf.firepig.waterbidoof).

Because your friend wants you to join the furry clan. Plus, it's actually not half bad, as long as you don't let the completely superfluous use of the Star Fox brand taint it.

Why is a dingo gnawing on my eye?

Um, I don't ever want to see that thing again. I think I melted from the nightmare heat.

Mario Chat / Re: How would you wrap up the Mario series?
« on: May 14, 2010, 08:14:54 PM »
I'd cancel the last game and get to work on a new game in the Star Fox series (20 years from now, when we have the technology to voice-chat to the Star Fox teammates and have them respond intelligently).

There's been enough Mario games in several different genres, and several "perfect" Mario games that anything new would be judged against. The other franchises need some love too, you know. Maybe I'd make a new Bubble Bobble. It's gotta be drop-dead easy to make a new game in that series that doesn't suck. Give it online play and randomly-generated levels, keep the graphics the same because ANY change is sacrilicious, and you're good to go.

I didn't get it and thought the guy was misheard as "your [butt] is loose", which doesn't make sense.

Well, the other images hint that it's a complete mystery, check out that MS Paint face on the third pic (that's obviously fake), so the Grinch thing just adds to the "what COULD it be? It could be a fox game, a box game, a socks game, you don't know! Mwahaha" vibe. Besides, there might be people crazy enough to bid on a fruitless auction (and if they actually get a mysterious game, so much the better. I suppose they didn't consider it might be a cartridge with a bomb or dangerous chemical inside).

If there was an auction for an unreleased game called Half-Dress: Freeman Bangs His Crowbar, would you Glorb buy it?
...that's my groaner entry.

Mario Chat / Re: Bowser's speed Inconsistency ?

Was that drawn before or after what I said? We totally needed a pic like that.

My mind's broken after hearing someone say Bowser has "beefy legs". I'm just going to sit in the corner there and try to get that image out of my head.

"I am Heavy Weapons Dragon, and THESE are my beefy legs. They weigh 150 kilograms each and the flesh ripples over every bulging muscle when I stomp on the ground. It costs $400,000 to render these details in an FMV for 12 seconds."

That's like the Mystery Box of videogames. That's like when GameLife went into a pawn shop, spotted the NES games Gilligan's Island and some Bullwinkle game, then asked readers which of the two to buy and play. It was pretty obvious both would suck, but the mystery was which would suck more.

You might say "but a mystery N64 cartridge might be a GOOD game!" Yeah right. Let's say it was a blank SNES cartridge of Chrono Trigger. Chances are the price it's sold for wouldn't be much different from buying a labeled Chrono Trigger cartridge, so people wouldn't risk it. And no one would willingly sell a mystery cartridge of that game anyway.

Now, if the blank N64 cartridge was a prototype of Dinosaur Planet or Conker 64, then that'd be a different story. But I don't think that's likely to happen either.

No, the next step of this prank is to sell a lame game with the sticker of a good game over it. You think you're buying Super Mario Kart, but you're really buying Mr. Nutz.

I definitely noticed how off Mario felt. I don't care if Bill's broken, shooting up World 1-2 is awesome. ...oh man, I've gotta check to see if I can shoot my way into the Warp Zone with him.

Balance? Bowser's huge, after all, gotta make him a heavy (Heavy Weapons Dragon?). We've already had Mario grab Bowser by the tail in Super Mario 64. Maybe Bowser needed to be faster this time so Mario couldn't do the same thing again. Not that it'd matter - Bowser would probably go around the planet in orbit.

Video Game Chat / Re: Final Fantasy suggestions
« on: April 29, 2010, 05:11:00 PM »
As Lizard said, V and VI (though I think V is DS only, and I believe VI is on the Wii Virtual Console).

Final Fantasy Adventure was on Gameboy, but it was really Seiken Densetsu with the "Final Fantasy" name tacked on to make people buy it. Seiken Densetsu is also known as the Mana series. It might not be Final Fantasy, but I recommend checking it out. Preferably Secret of Mana (SNES, it's on the Virtual Console too), which is the best of the bunch. Second recommendation would be the Japan-only Seiken Densetsu 3. The first game in the series was redone on GBA as Sword of Mana.

Secret of Mana feels very different from Final Fantasy, and it may take a while to get used to the odd battle system (and I tend to think boss battles are horribly broken given how you can abuse magic late in the game), but it really is a treasure. And if you like THAT, also think about trying out Secret of Evermore. Some people like it, some hate it, but it has the same control scheme as Secret of Mana.

Forget what I said on the other thread, THIS needs to be on the Wii. The characters are cool, but I found Bill to be the most fun since you could shoot the crap out of all the blocks.

Yoshi's Safari 2. Optional "gore mode". 'Nuff said.
Okay, so it will be the "Shoot People in the Face" mock videogame all over again since you'll just want to blast Yoshi's noggin which is a few inches away from you.

If it had to be a game that used the Wii remote:
- Yoshi's Safari 2. That sounds good.
- Mario Bandstand Wii. A competent version of Wii Music because Mario makes anything fun.
- Mario Paint Wii. Give us the Mario Artist thing we were promised for the 64DD that never came to the US.

And if not:
- Yoshi's Island Wii. The good stuff of Yoshi's Island (everything), plus the graphics of Yoshi's Story.
- Game & Watch Gallery Wii. Every single Game & Watch game. Classic and modern versions. That's how Mario gets worked into it, via the modern versions.
- Super Smash Rampage: Mario Tour. Get Bowser and King Dedede and other villains smashing the Mushroom Kingdom and other Nintendo landmarks.
