I just realized the invite link probably expired! I replaced it with one that won't. It should work now if it didn't before.

It's about time.

As of this posting, I just founded the Discord server for TMK, and a few IRC regulars are there.

I was close! I was right that the ledge climb animation puts him out of bounds, and that this is what kills you, but wrong that there's floor to stand on, that invisible walls exist, and that falling off of a stage is falling out of bounds. Out of bounds is the absence of any kind of floor beneath Mario and results in space the game normally refuses to move you into, which is similar to a wall or ceiling. This video explains how it works.

Out-of-bounds discussion begins at 30:27 and the castle roof instance is used as an example of getting into out-of-bounds at 33:31.

Oh yeah, that's a good point.

RIP TV button

The Switch has something even better. It just plain turns the TV on when you turn it on/wake it up/dock it while it's running. My TV's set up to turn itself off after a while of inactivity, so when it comes to the Switch I don't have to manually turn the TV off or on at all.

I'll probably use it a lot, everywhere, kinda like the demonstrations... but I think, mostly different games depending on where. I've never played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask on my 3DS away from home... I think I just wouldn't play BotW in handheld mode. I hope they don't neglect to provide a lot of options for time-wasters that don't take a lot of investment. GB Virtual Console is already pretty good for that but I'm gonna need a new WarioWare I think

The city world makes me think about some other platforming game where the protagonist has cartoonish proportions and spends a lot of time in an urban setting... he had the ability to run really fast, it was a game on the GameCube, what was it...

Oh yeah, Viewtiful Joe

Best: You can charge the thing with a more commonplace USB cable

Worst: This launch... oh... no... there has to be more queued up for this launch. There just... it needs a good launch, desperately

Games I played, liked, but didn't finish/play much of 2016: Dark Souls 3, Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, Pokkén Tournament

Games I have yet to pick up but really want 2016: Redout, Superhot, Ittle Dew 2

Games I finished 2016: Pokémon Sun. I bet the magical third version on the Switch will be called Earth, though, not Stars. Who would be the mascot of Stars? Cosmog? You sure about that? Zygarde on the other hand didn't get its own game last generation, is sort of a big deal in this one, and is talked up as a protector of the environment. You heard it here first

What I played a lot of this year: Brawlhalla, Super Mario Maker, Ace Attorney 2-5, Dead Rising & Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, Majora's Mask 3D, randomized Pokémon Emerald/White, Mario Galaxy, Luigi's Mansion 1 & 2, God Hand, Chrono Trigger, Ittle Dew, Wario Land 1 2 & 3

Pokémon

Mega Slowking

If you haven't been keeping up with Pokémon, I'll give a brief recap of what's been added to Slowpoke and Slowbro since the beginning.

Slowpoke can now evolve into Slowking instead of Slowbro. The transformed spiral Shellder attaches to its head instead of its tail and makes it intelligent.

As of Generation 6, Slowbro can now Mega Evolve into Mega Slowbro in battle through the use of a Mega Stone called Slowbronite, raising its Defense to an absurd degree. Mega Slowbro looks like this.

Slowbronite can't be used with Slowpoke or Slowking. Slowking cannot Mega Evolve.

However, I don't believe there is a biological difference between the three pink things involved in the Slowpoke family. Many Pokédex entries for Slowbro and Slowking talk about how if the Shellder is lost, the pink thing becomes a Slowpoke again. It even loses its enhanced intelligence if this happens to a Slowking. There is even an instance of a Pokédex unambiguously calling the pink thing Slowpoke and the shell Shellder without the context of the Shellder being lost: Mega Slowbro's Pokédex entry in Moon.

Quote from: Rotom
When bathed in the energy of Mega Evolution, Shellder converts into impregnable armor. There is virtually no change in Slowpoke.

The names Slowbro and Slowking therefore refer to the union of Slowpoke and Shellder in these particular ways, not enhanced forms of Slowpoke as would be seen if it evolved like a normal Pokémon. The Mega Stone called Slowbronite is actually compatible with the transformed Shellder instead. And you COULD use it with Slowking.

but don't, please

So I bet the decision to turn DDP into a Mario game also had to do with that the characters weren't exactly Nintendo's.
