THEY MADE SONIC WAY TOO FUN TO PLAY AS. CAN'T STOP USING HIM. GAH. Not even Toon Link or Luigi can save me. Snake is also pretty good. But his smash moves are way too slow and useless.

Oh and I prefer Brawl by a long shot.

I've played as Sonic, and I have to say I'm really impressed. His spin moves are all the same though, but who cares. Sonic is a breeze to control.

My favorite characters are Link, Toon Link, Mario (though he's a bit slower than in Melee), Sonic, Pikachu, Kirby, Marth.

Snake's movements are too slow. He's way too floaty when he jumps and his projectiles take forever to load.

Mario should be a guest host for Cash Cab.

Yes!

Master Chief may be the most popular "new" character, but Mario and Sonic have the greatest legacy. Laura Croft? Blah! Gordon Freeman? He is not an icon since he is not known by everyone. All people, even non-gamers, know who Mario, Link, and Sonic are. They are the true icons.

What about Pikachu? Pokemon should have been listed... it's been popular for over 10 years now!

Yeah... PS3 motion control blows.

I couldn't say it better myself. The way the PS3 controller is designed, it doesn't merit very well for motion controls. Nintendo knew this when they designed the Wii Remote. Go read the "Iwata Asks..." interviews, they talk about how the Wii Remote was originally going to be like a PS3-style controller, but the idea was scrapped.

As always, the Genius Miyamoto never ceases to amaze me. Nintendo has invented a unique peripheral that Sony and Microsoft will (eventually) blatantly copy, much to our dismay. But Nintendo thought of it first!

This is why I love Nintendo. They always think of something fun to play before the competitors copy them...

Now Microsoft is ALLEGEDLY making a Wii-style remote for the 360. Unlike the Wii, this remote is not essential for playing the 360. Therefore it will be used for niche games much like the EyToy on PS2.

Why doesn't the Wii have HD? Here's why.

Wow, that has to be the ugliest person I have ever seen! lol

The reason why the Wii doesn't have HD? Because it's selling fine without it! HD is overhyped anyways. I'd rather play a good game on a normal TV. Besides, Mario Galaxy looks incredible, and Brawl's no ugly duckling either.

Brawl by a longshot, but for some reason it feels like Melee had more stages and characters (I know this isn't the case, but still... maybe it's those white backgrounds. You know what they say about white backgrounds).

Brawl has almost double the number of characters and stages than Melee. Plus the Stage Builder adds even more creative stage designs!

Also, Brawl has the story-driven Subspace Emissary mode, while Melee had a puny little Adventure mode.

Who is your new favorite character in Brawl? I personally love Metaknight. He's fast, easy to control, and has a sweet Final Smash! Haven't tried Sonic or Snake yet.

I noticed that as well, with SMS--interesting considering the entire game is based on water--though I also noticed it with Galaxy.  I'll note the "forced scroll" vs. "auto scroll..."  Though now I'm wondering what "auto scroll" is if not "forced scroll."

SMS' swimming was a bit different due to the GameCube controller's button layout. Mario Galaxy's swimming was terrible, perhaps the only negative thing I noticed about the game! :)

Mario Chat / Melee or Brawl
« on: March 16, 2008, 06:05:33 PM »
As fighting games go, the Super Smash Bros, series is the most unique. But which game is better? Melee or Brawl? Brawl has more modes and Wi-Fi Connection support, but other than that, it's basically the same game as Melee.

(by the way, the Stage Builder is awesome! If only it had more parts...)

What are your opinions?

Why is Captain Falcon even in Smash Bros.? He doesn't have a starring role in any game (except if you count F-Zero, but that's a racing game!).

I can't decide between Super Mario World and Super Mario 64...

Oooh, tough decision.

SMB3 had some goovy Latin overworld music.

But Galaxy had a sweet remix of the SMB overworld theme (go to Toy Time Galaxy).

Though I don't find water physics annoying, I've gotta go with SML as well.  It's a really special level.

... Wait, do you find water physics more annoying than auto-scroll--'cause SML has that, and I tend to think that ranks a bit higher on the annoying scale.

Technically, though, SML's water levels are forced-scrolling stages. And everyone knows that piloting a sub is not the same as swimming.

For best water levels, I have to say SMW and SM64. SMW perfected swimming in 2D games (and the shell made it even easier), and SM64 had nearly perfect controls.

Isn't it strange that Mario's swimming is much harder to control in Mario Galaxy than it was in SM64?

« on: February 24, 2008, 08:30:56 PM »
SMB3 had the most/best powerups

BUT

Super Mario Galaxy is a close second; I've been imagining an Ice Flower powerup for years! And the Spring Suit is cool (even if it is hard to control)

Don't forget the Wario Land series. Those games had some of the oddest powerups ever found! Zombie Wario? Squished Wario? Pants-on-Fire Wario?

Considering the fact that this game has already been released (and sold over a million copies) in Japan, chances are Nintendo isn't taking any more character suggesstions...

For the NEXT Smash Bros. game, however...

Megaman (Classic or X; please no "Battle Network" version!)
Tails
Knuckles

Shadow (come on, Shadow is the coolest new Sonic character since Knuckles)
Revolver Ocelot (from MGS)
cybernetic Raiden (from MGS4)
Dante (from Devil May Cry)
Vergil or Nero (from Devil May Cry)
Tingle?
