Game Help / Re: Mario RPG help needed
« on: June 16, 2000, 10:58:00 AM »
I honestly can't help you off the top of my head, but I can point you in the right direction.

GameSages has several great FAQs for SMRPG.  Go to <www.sages.ign.com>, then make your way to the SNES section.  Look under SMRPG for tons of great secrets and a link to the page of FAQs.  Or, just copy and paste this link to the address bar ->

P.S.- Hinopio is in no way affiliated with GameSages or Game Faqs, please don't kick me off for advertising!

General Chat / Re: It's my 100th post
« on: June 16, 2000, 10:42:33 AM »
I think Chocobo's talking about the little picture of a person's face you see on every post.  That opens up a window that shows your stats...

By the way, are you the Princess Peach from the Video Game Music Archive?

The princess kidnapping bit?  I wasn't aware that we were sick of it in the first place. :)

Mario Chat / Re: Women of the Mushroom Kingdom

Speaking of the mushroom people...

I always thought fungi (mosses, molds, and mushrooms) repruduced asexually through spores, so that different genders are unecessary.  Of course, if game makers didn't take certain creative liberties like that it wouldn't be much fun at all, would it?

Mario Chat / Debates- Console Emulation
« on: November 05, 2000, 12:15:40 AM »
We all know the defenses of both camps, both pro- and anti- emulation.  I was just curious what some of the opinions about console emulation are at the TMK boards.  So, like, post your opinion, or something.

The discussion is over the pros, cons, supporters and defenders against emulation.

And just to start things off...
...I won't post my opinion.

Video Game Chat / Zelda- Majora's Mask: A Reflection
« on: October 29, 2000, 07:56:48 PM »
My brother and I got our copy of Zelda: Majora's Mask on Friday the 27th.  We ended up getting one of the ultra-cool collecter's carts with the 3D sticker on front, which I thought was pretty cool.

Anyway, for everybody out there, this game is fantastic.  The storyline is exceptionally original, the gameplay is nice and lemony-fresh, and even though graphics have rightfully taken a backseat to gameplay they are improved several times over those of Ocarina of Time.

Kudos to Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, and the entire Zelda team for an outstanding job on this game.  All my fears of a shoddy and shallow follow-up of commercialism were dispelled as soon as I turned on my 64.

Opinions?

Mario Chat / Poll: Next-Gen Wars
« on: August 26, 2000, 09:39:36 AM »
Alright, my last poll wasn't exactly a success, but I've got another question for everybody.

Now that we have seen the Dreamcast, PS2, and Game Cube (but not the X-box) which company do you think will come out on top this time?

Dreamcast/Sega
PS2/Sony
Game Cube/Nintendo
X-Box/Micro$oft

Site Discussion / Problems with Profile editing
« on: August 23, 2000, 04:52:55 PM »
Deezer- I have been having some problems editing my profile.  Everytime I click the 'Submit' button, I get this error message-

ADODB.parameter error '800a0d5d'

Application using wrong data type for current application

/ASPCommon/sqlcommon.asp, line 85

I have gotten this error in both Netscape 4.06 and IE 5, if that helps any.

Mario Chat / Poll: The Mario Cash-Cow
« on: August 21, 2000, 11:58:14 AM »
We all know that due to the overwhelming popularity of Nintendo's Mario character, many merchandising and licensing ploys have been used to maximise profits on the Mario story.  Here's the big question:

Do you think that the non-canon Mario games (Mario is Missing, Mario Teaches Typing, etc.) make the Mario universe a richer and more diverse place to be, or do they simply dilute the mix by adding stupid storylines?

I won't post my own opinion...

I (Hinopio) got my driver's license yesterday!  (Woo hoo!)  You probably didn't want to know that, but oh well.  I told you all anyway.  If you see me on the road, watch out.  I'm not insured... ; )

Video Game Chat / Poll: If you were stranded...
« on: August 17, 2000, 12:23:05 PM »
I know this should be on the General MB, but nobody would read it there... ; )

If you were stranded on a deserted island with only a TV (which got no reception), any combination of video game systems of your  choice (not including a PC), and a total of 5  games for those systems, what would your choice of games be?

For the sake of argument, you have an infinite supply of electricity and a cleaning kit (for when you get sand on the system contacts ; )

Hinopio's top 5: <Hinopio is biased toward the SNES, btw>

1. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
2. Dixie's Double Trouble (SNES)
3. Super Mario RPG (SNES)
4. Super Mario All-Stars + SMW (SNES)
5. Legend of Zelda- A Link to the Past (SNES)

I noticed this question on another MB, but I wondered how people would answer here at Fungi Forums.

I can't believe noone has mentioned Birdo from SMB2 fame... at least I think Birdo was a female.  Come to think of it, we really don't know the genders of most enemies.  (Goomba?)

Mario Chat / Re: Upcoming Nintendo titles...which will you play?
« on: May 31, 2000, 12:45:52 PM »
Nintendo is so good to it's buyers.  In a modern industry now dominated by flashy graphics, the big N still focuses on the gameplay element.  The 'Paper Mario' sequel to SMRPG looks especially disappointing,  considering the original Square team that made SMRPG so successful isn't around to guide the RPG development. I think it will be a "rent before you buy"...

Mario Chat / Re: Life after Miyamoto?
« on: May 31, 2000, 12:26:13 PM »
Whoa.. I've never thought about this one.  It would seem to be best for the series to climax when Miyamoto-san retires, but it's highly unlikely that the big N would just abandon it's advertising powerhouse.  Plus, we've all seen what can happen when the original mastermind steps away from his creation.  I agree with Yoshi348, Majora's Mask will be the indicator of things to come in the next round.
