Video Game Chat / Re: All right now who do ya want in Smash Bros. 4

Alright, I'll admit Quest was a shot in the dark, but SSSV would at least be understandable. I don't know if you know this, Rockstars kinda big, well known enough that they could get a character in. And of the characters that you could choose are pretty much Dude from GTA, Dude from GTA III, Dude from Red Dead, Dude from GTA IV. They had give Snake a whole bunch of explosives because guns were ruled out and that's a pretty big part of that, (especially when you suck at stealth, which doesn't work with the Smash gametype) but you couldn't really do that with the Average Joe Renegade. And it's not like SSSV would be the most obscure. Pit, Ice Climbers, and ROB were all one off just okay platformers or failed control things. May as well throw in the guy from Burger Time, at least that was good.

And Ridley I could go either way on. I do want more Metroid Characters, and I don't think Ridley would be bad, but I think a different bounty hunter would be cool too. Plus, if the next Metroid is coming out around the same time, it would be great cross promotion (Assuming of course that the next one will deal with the Sylux story). And just because Ridley was a boss shouldn't exclude him, there are a bunch of bosses playable. Even Giga Bowser became playable. The only things I think should NOT become playable are the hands, and I guess Tabuu, though he could be heavily reworked to fit.

What is the point of a series where each unique entry makes you never want to play the previous ones again?

Man, good thing this isn't a fighting game we're talking about. And you want Mega Man in it? King of the "You know what to do already" genre?

Well if offbeat/not the hero/weird characters are the way we're going, i would want Brian (I think that's his name) from Quest 64, Evo from Space station Silicon Valley, and a Team Rocket member (any grunt would be fine, but the nostalgia in me says Jesse and James with their originals and Meowth. Nostalgias also the reason for Rocket and not any of the teams from the last few gens).

I like the characters with multiple forms, which is what I'd hope Evo and the other PKMN trainer would be, evo having like an Elephant tank form, rocket turtle or Rat King form, and maybe a penguin or King Penguin. Something that can sort of fly. Rocket member could have, well, Arbok, Weezing and Meowth is my preference, and I don't really know what the attacks for them might be.

MvC2 is broken by it's infinites. Chars like Magneto who have a handfull of infinite combos, while certainly not "ruined forevar", made me at least lose some amount of interest.

Finally, while looking on Wikipedia trying to remember Evos name, did you know Space Station Silicon Valley was made by what would be Rockstar North? They should go back to the silly goofy games once in a while, diversify from the GTA stuff a bit.

Transparent for the user, sure, but you want to use that girth to get in your opponents view. Then when he can see, launch a shell and laugh your way to the lead!

Fan Creations / Brain Drippings and Comic pages
« on: July 08, 2011, 12:27:11 PM »
I'm newly trying to get some amount of work from my drawing abilities.  I am mostly working on a comic I hope to publish, print and web, sometime soon, but I'm also fascinated by the incredible amount of Eh designs on shirts, so I'm looking to throw my hat in the ring.  So I thought I'd show some of my work here, to you fellas.  The comic pages are without words because I'm just using the same files I put on my Facebook/deviantArt, and I don't want to have the story up yet.

So, yea, give'm a look, if you will. These are the more recent items I've completed.

General Chat / Re: The ANGST thread: Complain here!

Yes, I'm well aware that plenty of people are comparing this trial to the OJ trial, because there are many very important similarities.  One, there's a dead person.  Two, there's someone that is suspected of a crime and therefore, because innocent people are never arrested, guilty.  Three, it was televised. Four, HANG THEM HANG THEM, because regardless of being found innocent, they're still guilty (this is the part I was referring to by saying her life is ruined, the lynch mob attitude that doesn't care that they were found innocent.  I imagine she will make millions on her story). And that's about it.

Two things about the case. First, why does everyone care? What is it about the case that made everyone give even the slightest [darn]?Second, the jury found her not guilty after hearing all the testimony and viewing the evidence, it's not anyones place to condemn her because YOU think she's guilty. You think it's a problem with the justice system that she got away with murder, but not with the fact her life is ruined anyway?

Wait, you buy it but not play it? A deal is only a deal if it's something you would want. Buying 100 pounds of horse manuere and getting another 100 free only counts as a good deal if your a farmer.

Video Game Chat / Re: Tournament/Competitive Play
« on: June 30, 2011, 01:45:09 AM »
So there's a tournament at my local comic shop on the 2nd for Street Fighter 4 AE and MvC3. I won't be participating because I haven't enough practice, but I do believe my buddy will be in it, and I'll no doubt tag along if he does. But why I am here is to share some varying normal, odd, and crazy-no-nonsense rules. Straight from the site:

Quote
Tournament Rules:
1. BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER
2. AFTER EVERY MATCH TURN OFF CONTROLLER
3. PAUSING DURING ANY MATCH WILL RESULT IN A ROUND LOST (MVC3 CHARACTER LOST)
4. PRESSING THE HOME BUTTON WILL RESULT IN A KICK IN THE NUTS
5. RESULTS OF ANY MONEY MATCHES MUST BE HANDLE OUTSIDE OF STORE
6. The tournaments will be run on ps3 but there will be an xbox360. If an xbox player is matched up against a ps3 player, the match will be played on ps3.

This thread sucks compared to the original.

Well that's more to the difference of what is good in each medium. All music can be seen as good by SOMEONE, but there are games that can be nearly objectively called bad. So if you limit it just to games that are not broken or something, there is significant cut to the titles you can choose. Plus, music has always been around, whereas games are only around 30-40.

Another honorable mention, as well,
Clutch: From Beale Street to Oblivion. Great blues rock, and you might recognize the song Electric Worry from the L4D2 commercial. Very powerful storytelling, the lyrics mesh with the slightly scratchy rough voice of Neil Fallon.

It's only luck if you aren't great at geometry or timing.  Which powers do you think are useless?  There are some that are very situational, but not completely useless.

Also, Peggle is perfect. All the parts fit together: color scheme, characters, music, all working towards a singular theme of open, accessable, and inviting gameplay. The difficulty curve is progressive and reasonable, all the powers are viable, and plenty of replayability. Polished to a magnificient sheen.

God of war was great Greek tragedy, a story of revenge, and one of great growth. The third is a dude killing things in HD

"No Taunting.  It makes other feel bad."

That's fantastic.

Though I can't even pretend to make fun of the rule about hygiene and just generally looking nice. I've seen too many dudes, and ladies, that look like every stereotype for gamers out there.

I should probably go back and play CNZ again. I haven't played it in a while, and I'm sure my memories are a bit distorted. But something definitely should be done about the oscillating drum. Maybe have a Super Metroid ostrich run in and show you.

Hah, that would be great.  Yea, that part is a bit of a pain, but right in the beginning of Act 1 is a very similar drum, connecting Sonic/Tails start point and Knuckles, and while you can get down there, it does introduce the mechanic.  It is a bit of a missed opportunity to just have so few, one which is completely devoid of use outside showing how they move.  Add a couple around that can be used to throw you in the air, and a few like the main path one where you have to bring it down and jump off for ring rooms or Special Stages or something.  I mean, they had the corkscrew things that drop you left or right depending on your rings twice, and those offer so little on the "good" side to seem like just a time waste; make my achievements feel like an actual accomplishment.  At least then, after you run into the drum that you have to ride, you can think back and be like "OHHHH, that's what I was supposed to do".
