General Chat / Re: The Harry Potter Thread *spoilers possible*
« on: October 27, 2007, 03:17:17 PM »
Honestly, I saw it as just another one of Rowling's promotions for tolerance (which have had an influential standing in the Harry Potter books since day one).
Think about it; she builds Dumbledore up in the minds of her readers as a respected, wise, and powerful man, and then matter-of-factly reveals him to be homosexual.  She's trying to prove that, regardless of a person's orientation, anyone can do great things.

Hahaha.  This commercial reminds me of why I love the fact that Mario is Italian.

General Chat / Re: Writing?
« on: October 17, 2007, 03:46:36 PM »
I'm infamous among many of my English teachers as well as fellow students for being verbose, consequentially placing me atop the over-acheiver's throne, prone to ridicule and clandestine disdain.  However, I think I'm just being stereotyped based on long paragraphs and big words.  I'm not that great of a writer, and I tend to dislike most of what I come up with.
Creative writing used to flow through my fingers as inherently as blood, but after two years of pure nonfiction (i.e. history, history, primary sources, and history), I now tend to limit my thoughts according to the dimensions of "the box."  Thinking outside of it is no longer second nature, corroborating the old theory that the more knowledge you gain, the less imagination you hold.
I still like it, though, mostly because it acts as a security blanket; if my caliber is to be measured based on writing, I never feel incompetent.

Lately, I've been using this image.
It's not exactly uplifting, but I still like it.

General Chat / Re: The ANGST thread: Complain here!

I have ANGST that people around here word their sentences like absolute fools because they believe the rubbish that their brain-dead English "teachers" fed down their throat about prepositions.
I was going to post something angsty, but because of this, I just spent a couple minutes laughing.  My emotions have quelled...at!

Or...(in a more controversial theory)...could Wario be the substitute for a carelessly bumped Mr. Game & Watch?

Yeah...I needed a fire-type...
So when I saw Ponyta, I said, "Pritty!" and proceeded to waste a pokeball.
But at least she's named after George Orwell's fictional horse.  That makes her a lot more powerful...in dissing communism!
*buh-bum -PISH-*

....  (Yes, an ellipsis may end with a punctuation mark, thus allowing the fourth dot to act as a period).
I'm not entirely certain if what I'm interrupting is something important.  So...I'll just let that brief recognition suffice as a follow-up.
More to the point, hoorah.  I recently bought Pokemon: Diamond!
And, oh, what sweet fun leaks from those duel screens whenever I start to play.  Taking off on another adventure, guided half-heartedly by another professor named after a tree...good times.   But, like a sopping wad of gum, it loses its flavor.  Thus, (because no one wants to chew on a bland, gooey ball of mush for too long), I have not played in quite a while, making my progress somewhere around the ranks of a novice (at best).
My pokeymans:
Pip Pirrip the Prinlup (lvl. 24)
Cleveland the Bibarel (lvl. 22)
Scout the Luxio (lvl. 23)
Pavarotti the Kricketune (lvl. 22)
Estella the Budew (lvl. 24)
Juliet the Beautifly (lvl. 22)
Cosette the Buneary (lvl. 22)
Mercutio the Buizel (lvl. 22)
Clover the Ponyta (lvl. 23)
Amadeus the Chingling (lvl. 22)

I'm rather picky about nicknames.

Hmmm...I wonder what that little, yellow Hershey's Kiss is...
It reminds me of Makar.  :)

l: -1  ....

Riiight...well, not to change the subject (because this is such a wonderful subject), but I have something to say, and it fits in neither the ANGST nor the HAPPY topic.
For some reason I've been craving to take on the appearance of a chibi midget who gets bossed around in a world full of equally short anthropomorphic animals.  Ahem...so, I pulled out my old Animal Crossing game for the DS!  :3
And I realized that there really isn't anything too fun about this game.  I mean, think about it.  You're a poor man/woman who can only scrape up residuals left at the bottom of society's well, i.e., sell fruit, seashells, or other people's stuff!!!  Despite how depressing this is, I figure it's more like life than the Sims, (in which you can type 'rosebud' and instantaneously be living in a world of endless dollars), and is thus a succulent piece of helpful experience.  Ahhh, yes...the juices of mortgage payments drip from my chin...
So, all in all, even the most least likely of games can sometimes leave a scar that you simple must pick open at least once more in your life...

Video Game Chat / Re: Throwing the controller
« on: August 27, 2007, 07:52:48 PM »
Only once.  And I remember it clearly.
While playing Super Smash Brothers Melee, I was surprised to find that I had performed whatever task was necessary to unlock Luigi.  Seeing his silhouette and hearing that alarm got me extremely anxious, so I eagerly sat on the edge of my couch and prepared myself....
I believe I lasted around five seconds before dying...
Luigi's annoying moves (he flounces everywhere and acts rather dainty) provoked my frustration, and so, being the immature person I was, I stared at the screen, stood up, and chucked my controller at the seat of the couch.  Naturally, I turned off the game system with little more than a loud "GRAHHHHHHHHHH!"
After the anger quelled, though, I used logical understanding to simply try again (just beat all the target games, or something...).

AGREE.
But let's not throw this topic away because of one poster...
