It's hard to decide, but I will go with 1-2 because it is very well designed, and it's one of my favorites. I nominate Best Mario Sports game for the next BAWIS.

This is tough. I'll post a list for now and may narrow down the vote later.

Best:
1-1 Easily recognizable and well paced classic first level.
1-2 First level you can break bricks to get on top of the screen to go to Warp Zone.
3-1 1-Up trick!
4-3 I like the mushroom platforms and pulleys.
6-3 I love all the gray.
8-4 Awesome. Thank You Mario!

Worst:
1-3
1-4
2-2
2-3
2-4
All five of the above are reused and better later in the game.
7-3 Arrgh. Cheep. Cheap!

Edit: I nominate "Non-Mario Playable Character".

6-2 (pipes!!!)

2-3, 5-3, 7-2 (all repeated)

Best: Whatever level it is where you first see the mushroom platforms.
Worst: The Bowser level that doesn't end until you run around in the right combination.

Best: 8-4, because unlike ShadowBrian, I like solving puzzles with a time limit like the one in this stage...unless he meant the other pathed one, which I also like.

Worst: Hmm...I never really liked 4-1, but I wouldn't call it the worst...no vote for now, I guess.

Best: I can't decide between World 1-1 (classic!), World 4-3 (first appearance of the mushroom mountains!) and World 8-4 (the only level to include water and lava in the same area!). Can I vote for them all?

Worst: World 8-3, if only for the broken stairs at the end of the level. I don't know how many times I fell off of the top step when I had less than 30.. clicks on the timer.

nominee: Again, can I vote for more than one? 2D game and Non-Mario playable character.
