While review some quantum physics I came a cross this picture of three of my heroes and was instantly reminded of the classic Sesame Street skit.

Dirac inspired my favorite science fiction story by Geoffrey A. Landis.  Don't watch the video unless you want the story ruined.

General Chat / ACHOO Syndrome and Bright Lights

Who else here is afflicted with the photic sneeze reflex?

I recently put a new bright white florescent bulb in our kitchen and now sneeze most times when entering the kitchen especially if I'm coming from a darkened room.

In a possibly unrelated condition I am also green/hazel eyed and very light sensitive.  My wife is dark brown eyed and prefers many bright lights that are often so bright that they make my eyes water.  I prefer dim indirect light.  Particularly I prefer a very dim light behind me when I read.  This light is too low for my wife to read by, but in her defense she has had Lasik eye surgery which supposedly diminishes the eyes ability to see in low light situations.   In particular she has difficulty driving at night, but she had this problem before the Lasik surgery as well.

Not at the Dinner Table / NSA's Key To The Extraterrestrial Messages
« on: November 27, 2011, 06:38:07 PM »
"Recently a series of radio messages was heard coming from outer space. The transmission was not continuous, but cut by pauses into pieces which could be taken as units, for they were repeated over and over again. The pauses show here as punctuation. The various combination have been represented by letters of the alphabet, so that the messages can be written down. Each message except the first is given here only once. The serial number of the messages has been supplied for each reference." - National Security Agency

The following is a copy of the original document on the National Security Agency website:

WTD?

Edit:  Nevermind, http://www.nsa.gov/public_info/_files/ufo/et_intelligence.pdf  It was a test.

Pictures are from Amazon.  Both are used.  The browser includes the case, instructions, ds cart, and gba memory expansion.  The protector has some minor scratches.  Make me an offer.

Video Game Chat / Black Friday Gaming Deals
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:40:43 PM »
Feel free to post your favorite black Friday gaming deals.

I'm interested in the 3DS bundles at...

BEST BUY:

and

GAME STOP:

At Best Buy I can get it $20 off, but at Game Stop I can trade in my daughter's DSlite, give her my DSi, and get the 3DS bundle for $129.99.  I already have Zelda and want SM3DL so I guess that means I'll have to get the red 3DS.  Know of any other deals?  I'm hoping Amazon has a good deal because I hate the black Friday crowds.

Not at the Dinner Table / U.C. Davis students pepper sprayed
« on: November 19, 2011, 08:31:37 PM »
http://cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2011/11/19/nr-occupy-davis-pepper-spray.cnn

That's the largest bottle and longest stream of pepper spray I've ever seen.  The officers in full riot gear were in fear?  Didn't look that way to me.

Edit:
Longer video:  http://punditspew.com/post/13017402101/uc-davis-students-pepper-sprayed-at-point-blank-range

From this I can see that the officers were in fear AFTER they pepper sprayed the kids sitting on the sidewalk and the crowd started chanting "Shame on you," and "You can go!"  From the longer video I can also see that there were a lot of people with cameras.  What did the officers expect to happen?

Edit 2:
Here's a different view:  http://mashable.com/2011/11/19/occupy-wall-street-pepper-spray/
I can see now how the officers were surrounded by students sitting in a big circle, but I can also see how easily the officer that pepper sprayed the students stepped over them.

Edit 3:
I more detailed account with pictures and videos:  http://boingboing.net/2011/11/20/ucdeyetwitness.html
Note how the students were smiling and laughing before being pepper sprayed.  It seems to me they were not a danger to the officers.

I'm not a big racing fan outside of kart and 2D games so that's probably why I missed this awesome PS3 racing controller.

An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one orders a beer. The second orders half a beer. The third, a quarter of a beer. The bartender says “You’re all idiots”, and pours two beers.

Sessler's Soapbox: I Hate Numbers

I completely agree with him, but give his video a four out of five for giving us little more to look at than his slowly reddening face.
