Video Game Chat / Nintendo's E3 secret?
« on: December 05, 2003, 10:31:39 PM »
What will Nintendo show at the next E3?  Anyone care to speculate?

You might want to read an old article at http://money.cnn.com/2003/11/13/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/ if you don't know what I am talking about.  Although, please note that Chris has been wrong before; most recently about Mario's "only" GameCube game.

Note: This post is pure speculation, but based in part on the very limited information that Nintendo has released.

Serial Port 1:
The Serial Port 1 on the bottom of the GameCube is a bi-directional high speed port.  It has a round side opening unlike the other ports.  Since the Serial Port 1 has this round opening I would guess that it is for something that can be connected and removed easily unlike the GameBoy Player of modems, but more like a GameCube controller or other input device.

New Hardware:
Nintendo has annouced that they will have a new piece of "hardware" that will not to be a new console.  The new hardware could be for the Serial Port 1 mentioned above.  It could be a mouse, keyboard, gun, dance pad, camera, printer, etc.

Mario 128:
Shiggy said that "Mario 128" would have a "newness" that Super Mario Sunshine was missing.  What the "newness" is no one knows, but there have been many speculations.  It may be related to the new hardware they will have.  It has also been speculated that the new Mario game will be more like Super Mario 64 in game play.

Serial Port 1, New Hardware, and Mario 128:
I speculate that the new hardware could be a camera to interact with like the PS2 Eye Toy and/or a floor pad like the NES Track and Field or the PS2 dance pad.  The new Mario game could incorperate one or both of these.  Imagine playing a Super Mario 64 type game and controling Marios walking, running, and jumping with a floor pad and seeing yourself as Mario on the screen and punching or shooting fireballs at enemies by moving your hand in front of the camera.  That would be "newness"!

Video Game Chat / “Who are you?”
« on: October 13, 2003, 09:02:49 PM »

“Who are you?” is a question that Nintendo of America is asking video game players of all ages in a new multimedia campaign this fall.

The campaign showcases the ability of Nintendo games to let players explore a wide range of emotions and personalities through Nintendo’s stable of the most popular and diverse video game characters in the world. The “who are you?” idea is introduced through cinema advertisements, print ads, out-of-home elements that include wall murals and 30-sheet billboards in major cities, transit ads, mall banners and dioramas, in-store merchandising and other elements. An online component features interactive ads and a “who are you?” Web site located at  www.nintendo.com/whoareyou.

The campaign features a cinema commercial that is one of the most ambitious commercials ever produced by Nintendo, featuring more than 500 extras and notable talent such as the stunt coordinator for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and the editor of Amelie. Filmed in Asia, the ad pays homage to Nintendo’s heritage. The 60-second spot will run on nearly 10,000 screens in movie theaters across the United States beginning Oct. 30, prior to movies ranging from The Matrix Revolutions to The Cat in the Hat in order to reach a diverse group of video game players. In addition, 30- and 15-second versions of the commercial will be used on television in October to promote Super Mario Advance 4 : Super Mario Bros. 3, one of the most anticipated new games for Game Boy Advance.

“Nintendo permanently established video games as a key element of popular culture, and ‘who are you?’ embodies the emotional connection players have with their favorite games and characters,” says George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America Inc. “This campaign celebrates what makes Nintendo unique – the fact that we offer the widest range of personalities through which you can unleash your other self … your game self.”

“This is not about changing who we are,” says Harrison. “Nintendo has been and always will be about making great video games for all ages. This campaign simply enables us to speak with one unified voice.”

In the campaign’s print ads, Nintendo characters are “taped” onto well-known photographs and images, including the Mona Lisa and the Berlin Wall, among others. The ads illustrate the point that Nintendo games allow players to take on a wide range of imaginative roles and reinforce Nintendo’s position as an innovator that shapes pop culture. Print ads appear in nearly 20 different magazines, including Rolling Stone, Stuff, Spin and ESPN.

The White Mushroom House / Rare Super Nintendo items wanted!
« on: October 09, 2003, 10:03:08 PM »
I am building a SNES stand up arcade machine and am looking for a few rare items for the US Super Nintendo.  If you have any of these or know where I can find them (besides ebay) let me know.

I need:
- An adapter that allows you to hook up more than one SNES cart. into the console at a time (very rare).
- An adapter to play NES games on an SNES (rare).
- Arcade style controllers (easy to find).
- A cheap 3.8 mm (I think) secruity bit (easy to find but not cheap on ebay).
- Plans for the Nintendo Super System, Player's Choice, or other Nintendo or similiar arcade stand up video game system.

I plan to use several SNES/NES/GameBoy games on the system.  Here are a few I may use:
- SMAS + SMW
- Tetris + Dr. Mario
- Super Mario Kart
- Mario RPG
- Super Mario Land 2 (GB using Super GameBoy adapter)
- Mario Bros. (the original arcade game on NES w/ NES to SNES adapter if I can find one)
- Mario Paint?

If you have any suggestion let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Luigison (dr_shows@yahoo.com).

Video Game Chat / Played Mario & Zelda on Phillips CD-I?
« on: October 04, 2003, 07:38:54 PM »
I have heard that the games on the Phillips CD-I were terrible, but it seems that nearly no one has ever really played them.  If you have please tell us about them in detail.  I am also wondering if Nintendo will include them in there supposed Mario and Zelda collections for the GameCube.

Site Discussion / Mods look here for threads we want deleted.
« on: September 28, 2003, 01:44:53 PM »
I have seen many threads that have posts requesting that they be deleted.  I have even made a few of such requests.

So, I am makeing this thread for people to  let the mods know which threads you would like deleted.  This way we don't have to post in the thread we want deleted to find that we have simply pushed it to the top were others have replied to it causing the request to be buried in the topic we wanted deleted.

I personally want all the "Ban (insert name here)" topics deleted.  If you want a thread deleted post it here.
