Mario Chat / Re: Good Ol' Days...

Okay, Mega 2, if Nintendo hasn't made any good 3D Mario games, what the hell do you call Super Mario 64?  Oh, you know, that little game that invented the 3D platforming genre?

And why is it every Mario game you don't like is an "orthodoxie"?  I get real annoyed by closed-minded "old farts" who can't enjoy anything released after '93.  Not every early 90's sidescroller is good, folks!  Let's face it, Mario is Missing was one of the most disappointing games Nintendo has ever released, and, *gasp* it was released during your "Golden Age" of Mario!  Are good games, esepecially good sidescrollers, harder to find now?  You bet.  Does that mean no one makes good games anymore?  No.

And don't think I'm some 12-year old moron who thinks all games have to be 3D to be good either.  I was pretty aggravated to hear that the next Metroid game was not only rumored to be produced by a no-name 2nd party (Retro Studios?), but it was going to be 3D?!  NOOO!!

My point?  Grow up.  Expand you tastes in gaming.  At least try something before you turn your back on it or call it an "orthodoxie."  A game is not required by law to be a sidescroller to be good, regardless of the painful lack of good sidescrollers.

Well, to be honest. . . Yes, there's enough stuff in Perfect Dark to keep you busy for a loooong time.  I don't think I can accurately describe the sheer amount of stuff to do in Perfect Dark.  One of the cooler things you can do is name and create your own character from any of the in-game characters (with interchangable bodies and heads).  Then, as you use your character, the game saves ALL his/her/it's stats.  How far it's walked, how accurate it is, how much damage its dished out, just about everything.  This is just ONE of the multiplayer options.  I love it.  I can't honestly do the game justice with words.

The framerate.  Let's keep in mind kids, that IGN (and I'm sure plenty of other people) likes to **** and moan about every single framerate inconsistency in the world, no matter how insignificant or undetectable.  The only situtations that might noticeably hurt the framerate is if you:  have the game set on hi-res (which is kind of pointless anyway), have 4 people playing and 5+ computer players too, or if you have 12+ guards on screen blowing up cars and shooting at you.

If you even remotely enjoy first person shooters, you must own this game.  :)

After Perfect Dark, other shooters just don't compare. (my personal opinion)

Speaking of politics, does anyone else think we should just give Florida back to Spain?  I've really had enough of their stupid crap.  Recounts, chads, absentee ballots, blah, blah, blah.  For God's sake the election was supposed to be for only one day!!

You know other countries are making fun of the U.S for all this garbage, don't you?

I don't buy into that Brooklyn/New York crap.  Why?  Watch the ending to Yoshi's Island.  It shows baby Mario and Luigi getting dropped off in a valley full of Mushroom houses.  Their parents live in one of these mushroom houses.

Now, if I'm not mistaken, there aren't a heck of a lot of giant mushrooms with people living in them in New York. . .

Anybody that really seriously enjoys the Mario games on a regular basis won't forget Mario.  It's just that simple.  Just like nobody will forget Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse.  Or Urkel.  Mario's an icon, man.  You don't just forget about an icon (unless, of course, you fall victim to Alzheimer's).

Actually, the Bowser levels were always my favorite too.  They just seem more "classic Mario" style then the rest of the game.  It's how one would expect a 3D version of Mario Bros. 3 or Mario World would play.

The Bowser levels are a very cool and subtle mixture of classic Mario stomp'n'romp gaming with the ever wacky third dimension to make things more interesting.  Sort of a 3d platformer on rails.  The StarFox games are like this too.  Sure, you're in 3d space, but your range of movement is limited.

The inside of the volcano and Rainbow Ride are like that too.  Who knows?  Maybe, if we're lucky, the next 3d Mario game will be set up like the Bowser levels. . .
