Video Game Chat / 2D vs 3D

I have to write a short comparison/contrast paper, c/c'ing 2D gaming and 3D gaming, and I would like some input from the FF.

What do you think about 3D games? .. 2D games? Do you have a favorite one of each genre? Do you play games that are strictly 2D or 3D, or do you play games that are versatile?

I have to finish up this paper before midnight tonight, so any info you can give me before then would be great. :)

Game Help / Super Mario World (GBA)

I need some help.. I have finished the game once, and collected all the Yoshi coins (which turns them into Princess coins in the GBA game). My question is, does anything happen if you collect all of the Yoshi/Princess coins again, or is it just a cosmetic change?

What if Toad had his own game? What would it be like? Would he stomp on things (like the Bros)? Would he have wild mood swings (like Peach)? or would it be something completely different (like.. something completely different)?

I've always wondered what would happen if Nintendo decided to cross their Mario franchises. It started out small, with Mario Party 5. Remember who the hosts of each mode were? That's right, the Star Spirits from the first PM game. Now, we are getting Super Paper Mario, which is just SMB with paper characters, see.

So, if the trend continues, we should see..

Mario Chat / Mario Cameos in Mario Games

I was playing Mario Party 5 earlier today when I noticed that many of the areas that the minigames use look like areas that are from past Mario Parties. I thought we could start a list of them here, much like we did with the SMB theme list. This list doesn't have to be just Mario Party, though. If you have seen something that is in one Mario game that looks like it came from another Mario game, then feel free to post it here. Anyway..

*Mario Party 5*

Flatiator- the 5 trees surrounding the area are in the same order as the 5 trees in the park area of Mario Party 2's Minigame Park

Duel Minigames- All seem to take place in an area that looks similar to Western Land, from Mario Party 2

Rainbow Dream- the starting area on the board has a turbine on it which looks just like the one in the minigame in Mario Party 2 that involved a turbine (1 vs 3 game, Shock Drop or Roll).

*Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga*

Roy's Room- Roy's room has a sidescrolling area that only small Mario can get into. When you get near the end of the area, there is a Bowser suit being held up by some rope above a bridge, and an axe is at the far right. When you jump on the axe, the bridge falls apart and the Bowser suit is thrown into the lava. This is very much like the 4th level of every world in the original SMB.

*Edit: I found the names of the 1 vs 3 minigame, and the Koopaling with the sidescroller area.*

Video Game Chat / Searching for that One Game?

No, this is not a buying/selling topic. That's what the White Mushroom House Board is.

Anyway, I created this topic so we can discuss any game that has been/is on oour minds and we either don't know the name of it or don't remember much about it. Hopefully, some helpful soul will read this topic and help those of us who need it. Now, on to the games..

I remember this jigsaw puzzle game that was on my mom's computer when I was just getting into games. The pictures of the puzzle were moving, and you could flip the pieces to see where they fit into the puzzle. The easist puzzle was four large marbles that were moving around in a small circle, all reflecting the one behind it.

There was also another puzzle that had a black background, with green circles, and there was red one that bounced around in the puzzle. That one had the best music.

If I could just find out what the name of that game is/was..

The White Mushroom House / DS, possibly with 2 Games?

Would anybody be interested in buying a DS (not a DS Lite) with 2 games (Super Mario 64 DS and Super Princess Peach)?

All items work just fine, I just want to see if anybody is interested. I bought them all new, but I am not expecting anybody to pay the new price for them when they are slightly used.

What is your favorite commercial for a video game (does not have to be Mario related)?

A couple of mine are:

The Super Smash Bros 64 commercial where Mario, Yoshi, DK, and Pikachu were frolicking through the flowers.

.. and then (this one is an old one) there was the commercial a really long time ago that I think was a Walmart/Mario game commercial.. I don't remember much about it, but I do remember that the commercial was set up like a side scrolling Mario game set in a grocery store, but when Mario got 'fire power', he ended up dressed kind of like an elf. He would carry a sack around, and when he shot a 'fireball', it would be thrown at people that had shopping carts, and suddenly they would get the system/game that was being advertised in the commercial.

I'm pretty sure that second one is pre-Super Mario World, but I am just not sure, really. ^_^

Does anybody remember a video from around May of 2002 about a fake Mario game for the GBA? It was an extremely high quality fake, and there were 2 versions of the video: a shorter one (around 12 seconds) and a longer one (I think it was almost a minute long).

The longer version had a screen appear at about 12-13 seconds in that said that the guy who created it admitted it was fake, and how he wished Nintendo would make something like this.

Anyway, does anybody remember it?

General Chat / Do You Watch Anime?

If you do, what is your favorite? I used to be into Ranma, but I don't get to watch it anymore (my sister went off to college, taking her Ranma movies with her).

I also started this topic because I have a question for anybody that is really into anime and remembers possible movies and/or shows from the 80s-90s.. but I'll wait and see what people say. :)

Mario Chat / Favorite Non-human Character

Toad used to be the 4th character in games that had 4 characters playable but he was replaced by Yoshi. I don't understand how a character that was introduced 10 years after the Mario series had started (Yoshi) would be more popular than a character who was there from the start (Toad). Yoshi didn't even start out as a full character, but an item of sorts.. if it came from an [?]-block, it was an item. Anyway, more recently, Yoshi has been playable more often than Toad. Both of them have a handful (or more) of fans, people that want to see them playable.

So, who is your favorite?
