SMB3-White Mushroom Houses

Hello everyone.  I've been playing Mario All-Stars, and had a question about SMB3.

How do you get the white mushroom houses.  I know the FAQs on the net say I must surpass a certain coin amount in a certain level.  That's what I tried.  I went to level 1-3 and got over 44 coins.  I think I got about 65 coins, while I started with 36 coins.  The white mushroom house didn't appear, though.  Where exactly is that house supposed to appear?

P.S. Where could I find p-wings in SMB3?

There's your problem. The mushroom house is in 1-4!

And the others:

2-2: 30? coins
3-8: Erm.... 42 is it?
4-2: 22??
5-5: 28????????????????????
6-7: 78. The only other one I know for sure.
7-2: Bleh. Don't ask. My guess is 42.

Those values are from memory and are likely wrong.

P-Wings are found in the World 1, 3, 5, and 7 Mushroom house, and after the world 1, 3, 5, and 7 castles. I think, don't quote me there.

Oops!  Did I say level 1-3?  I meant 1-4.  Yes, I know that was the level I'm supposed to go to.  But as I said, no white mushroom house appeared.  Just those orange ones like before.
The level I went to was the automatically scrolling one in World 1, with the wooden platforms that drop when you land on them, if that helps.

Yes.... that would be 1-4.... maybe you miscounted your coins? I mean, you are on the right level, and I know for a fact that it is 44 coins to get the White Mushroom House.

My only other idea is that you didn't get the 44 coins and miscounted.

65 minus 36 is not 44.  If you had unlocked the Mushroom house, it would have been very obvious.  They appear right on the map, over a level that you have already beaten.  You can't miss them.

Did you get all the coins hidden in blocks?  At the very end of the level is a vertical stack of 5-or-so blocks with two vertically oriented blocks directly beneath them.  If you stand on the lower blocks and break the first four blocks above, the top has 7-or-so coins in it.  Those are the hardest to get in that level.

How many blocks with hidden coins are there?!  I tried again and only got about 35 coins.  I found one block with coins near the end; with the vertical stack of coins in front of two stacks of two blocks (one stack over the other).
