Author Topic: Merry Christmas! What'd Ya Get?  (Read 11726 times)

« on: December 25, 2007, 12:23:30 AM »
As I type this, many of you already have visions of sugarplums dancing in your heads. I'm trying desperately to make myself tired. I can never sleep on Christmas Eve, no matter my level of excitement for the following morning (which has been declining over the years).

After you wake up, open gifts, eat breakfast and all the excitement settles down, why not share with the other forum members what you received! Half the fun is sharing your excitement with others.

I didn't revive an old topic because after some research ( <5 minutes) there weren't any dedicated solely to listing what you got for Christmas.

I'll post what I got sometime tomorrow. I need to somehow fall asleep first.

Um, I'm pretty sure I got these two things:

1. Mario Galaxy
2. A crate of ramune

We were put on a $50 limit this year, so...I'll say what else I got later, when I've opened stuff.

EDIT: Yup, that's all I got.

I got Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad, Alive 2007 and clothes.

RE: UC is awesome so far as I've played it (only a little). I've played Ghost Squad a bit more and I can say that it is what Allah intended when he invented video games in 1991. I haven't had time to listen to Alive 2007 yet. The clothes appear to fit, but I haven't tired them on yet.

Wow! This year is probably the most useful year ever for me! I recieved:

  • An ergonomic, bead based thing for mice that I'm using for ASDW
  • A Sergei Rachmaninoff CD with Piano Concertos 2 & 4
  • 5mm mechanical pencils (lots of them)
  • Michael Crichton's NEXT
  • Brain Age 2
  • Perhaps most importantly, a 250 GB external hard drive!!
  • Plenty of clothing, but I need it.

I haven't seen anyone get SMG yet. I might have to buy it myself.

I am a big fan of Mr. Potato Head, which will explain several items on the list..

Several Mario shirts from Hot Topic (the black one with 8-Bit Mario and Bowser fighting, black shirt with long sleeves with a Super Mushroom, the SMB3 hoodie)

A retro Mrs. Potato Head (once belonged to my late Aunt Jamie, I believe)

A 55th anniversary tin filled with a recreation of most of Mr. Potato Head's original eyes/ears/etc.

Santa Spud Mr. Potato Head (as seen in Target for several weeks)

Two books on how to draw; one about drawing Manga, the other about drawing dragons (and other mythical creatures)

Rush Hour movies

The Weird Al Show on DVD

Garfield's 24th book (Garfield Takes his Licks)

A new cell phone (actually, it will be my mom's old phone because she got a new one from dad for Christmas. That's fine with me because my old phone is, well, it's old. It was her old phone the last time too, but I chose it out of pure coincidence..)

EDIT: My fiancee gave me the following.. (and updated the above list)

The Fire Mario shirt from Hot Topic (black with Fire Mario's art from New SMB on it)

Brain Age (Now I can finally see how smart I am.. or am not..)

A Mario shirt from Walmart (dark blue with Mario's head on a red and yellow logo. It says "Down since 85" under the logo)

On a side note: maybe I can get someone to take pictures of me wearing the various shirts and things, though I don't know if anybody would want to see me.. XD

After a fairly sleepless night (went to bed at 11, fell asleep at 12, woke up at 2, fell back asleep at 3, finally woke up at 8), I received the following items, in no particular order:

-Letter jacket
-Noise-canceling headphones
-The Orange Box (PC)
-Transformers DVD-style
-Jeff Foxworthy DVD
-Various gift cards
-Nice sweater
-Bed sheets and comforter
-Jones Soda
-"Greatest Hits" - Boston
-School of Rock soundtrack

I will probably return the School of Rock soundtrack, since my sister already has it. I will most likely buy Alive 2007 and/or a 360 Guitar Hero controller.

It's snowing. Hard. What a great Christmas :)

Couple of long sleeve shirts (Really needed these)
Pair of pants (needed these too)
The Simpsons Movie
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's guide
Electronic Gadgets for the Evil Genius (It's a book)
A belt
That's all I thought I got, until my parents got two boxes out, one for me and one for my sister.  They surprised each of us with an iPod and stereos that they can be plugged into.  We were both very surprised and very happy.  I got the Touch, and she got a Nano.

Gift card for selected stores (...no idea how much was put on it)
Assorted lollies and chocolates (w00t)

We rarely feel that great about what we give other people, perhaps? The funny thing about such a topic is that it could also seem selfish and materialistic to boast about what we gave to other people.

« Reply #29 on: December 26, 2007, 11:49:57 PM »
I feel great about what I give others, because I know they are things they will enjoy and things they appreciate.

However, a topic entailing gifts given instead of gifts received is not a great idea.

Well, just for your information, I gave some pretty good stuff this year, including a High School Musical DVD for my sister (buying that was the equivalent of being seen in a Hot Topic...egh), a stuffed toy for my friend, a Queen T-shirt for my other friend, a copy of Gears of War that I have yet to give to a third friend, a set of spatulas for my mom, and I forget what I got my dad, although I'm sure it was something awesome and manly.

- A massive amount of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon cards. I have no idea why.
- Both of the Lego Star Wars games.
- Some sort of "ultimate board game collection" for the PS2...which actually contains less games than Clubhouse Games.
- Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA with dance mat.
- The Gamecube version of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (we didn't have a lot of money for presents this year, so I got a lot of older games).
- Three $20 gift cards, which I sold to my dad so that I could get Astro Boy: Omega Factor, the GBA version of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and a Supercard an EZFlash 3-in-1.
- Uno Attack.
- Some older PS2 titles (Metal Gear Solid 2, Resident Evil 4, and some Tom Clancy game) and some DVDs.

We also bought some other stuff with Christmas gift cards, including another LotR game, the PC version of Taito Legends 2, and season 2 of Justice League Unlimited. Also, my brother and I are getting Guitar Hero III as a late present (because my parents couldn't find any copies of it or something).

The only noticeable differences between the two are less fog, and less detail when the camera is half an inch away from something. Other than that, it looks just as awesome. Of course, the Wii version is the best, but really only if you play on a GC controller; I just don't like the Wii control scheme.
