Easy. He didn't meet the required height. Don't you remember those "You must be this tall to ride" signs at the carnival? Yeah, he never grew over the line.

Then the babies shouldn't have been in either, or Koopa Troopa, or Mini-Bowser (ok, he might be tall enough, I just hate him is all).

Toad was in Mario Tennis 64 (and Mario Tennis for the Virtual Boy).. why take out a good character for 3-4 ok characters (Flyguy was just stupid, Paratroopa was ok [since he'd been in the 64 game], Wiggler was a surprise, and Petey was the worst one of them all [stupid baby Pirahna Plant, taking up valuable character space with his regurgitating noises and friggin huge head])

But actually they are a lot faster in their shells, as seen in Mario Power Tennis or Super Mario World (the invincible shell).

and in Paper Mario, where moving quickly inside their shells made a "comeback" (like it was ever gone, or anything).

I love the way this topic started out about one thing, then turned into something else, which turned into something completely different.. :D

I also used to watch Pokemon alot.. mostly b/c my tv being in my room was new, and when I had it turned just right, the antenna would pick up a station in Tennessee that showed Pokemon. That was a couple (or more) years ago though. :)

General Chat / Do You Watch Anime?

If you do, what is your favorite? I used to be into Ranma, but I don't get to watch it anymore (my sister went off to college, taking her Ranma movies with her).

I also started this topic because I have a question for anybody that is really into anime and remembers possible movies and/or shows from the 80s-90s.. but I'll wait and see what people say. :)

Hmm.. I haven't played much of Super Mario Advance.. just a copy of the ROM (I don't know where to get it, don't ask me).

I thought it was good, but I can see why people would have wanted an option to turn the voices off in that game. A voice clip for every little detail was insane (plucking a veggie, being hit, grabbing a cherry, grabbing an enemy..). I did like Toad's voice, though.

My favorite one is probably the first game he had a voice in, Mario Kart 64 (ok, so this was the first famous one.. he first had a voice in Wario's Woods..) After that, we didn't hear much from the World's greatest mushroom retainer.. Just some ohs and aws in the first 3 Mario Party games, then he was given what was an ok voice in MP4. MKDD was a good voice, but not as good as MK64, and MP's 5-6 are also pretty good, but again, not as good as MK64's.

Actually, I think Ribbot moved from my town.. Ribbot moved out of scenic Crymeah after Khold visited (was it last night?).

Back to topic..

There was this one time when I was in the sixth grade, my teacher was talking and she's one of those teachers that walked in small circles when she talks. There was this bug crawling on the floor (roly-poly, I think).. Anyway, she got to moving in her small circle and the bug was crawling towards her (and most of the class had noticed it too). She took one swipe with her foot forward, almost stepping on the bug (she knocked it on its back) and then took another swipe forward with her other foot, squishing the bug. It made a small crunch sound and the class started laughing.

She stopped and asked What's so funny? She hadn't seen the bug, and we told her about it.

Toad is in MSB though.

No he's not. There are Toads in MSB, but the one Toad has a blue vest and red mushroom dots. In that game, they're trying to pass off the red Retainer as Toad.

.. and I AM CALM. *tenses arms and grabs keyboard in deathlike grip* (j/k btw)

Ok, but what about today.. Super Mario 64 DS could've easily had Toad playable instead of, well.. Wario. Ok, so that was a bad example, but there are other games..

Why wasn't Toad in Mario Power Tennis? Why isn't he in Mario Superstar Baseball? Why not in Paper Mario or PM2? Why wait until the fifth installment of Mario Party to finally start including a character that should've been there from the beginning?

.. and don't give me that he was a board host business. They could've easily replaced Toad with a Lakitu, or some other npc.

It would seem to me to be more like if they ask you, they would be saying Hey, we have this custom title we want to give you. How does this sound?

Then again, maybe they do give you a list.. :D

Mario Chat / Favorite Non-human Character

Toad used to be the 4th character in games that had 4 characters playable but he was replaced by Yoshi. I don't understand how a character that was introduced 10 years after the Mario series had started (Yoshi) would be more popular than a character who was there from the start (Toad). Yoshi didn't even start out as a full character, but an item of sorts.. if it came from an [?]-block, it was an item. Anyway, more recently, Yoshi has been playable more often than Toad. Both of them have a handful (or more) of fans, people that want to see them playable.

So, who is your favorite?

I've never thought of Toads as being actual mushrooms; they're mushroom people. It does seem that they do have some mushroom-like qualities other than physical appearance. I can specifically think of M&LPiT (don't want to spoil, though), although I can't think of anything else specific off the top of my head (hehe).

You mean producing spores, right? *game spoilers ahead! Read at your own risk*

In Super Mario RPG, I think the Chancellor of Mushroom Kingdom said something about the sword's earthquake causing him to almost drop his spores.

In Mario Tennis 64, Toad's trophy sequence involved him tossing his trophy around happily, then accidently bonking himself on the head, making him produce spores (which seemed to immediatley grow into small mushrooms).

In Smash Bros Melee, when Peach used her B move (Retainer), and a when move is reflected, Toad produces spores once again.

I'm sure there are more, but that's all that I can think of.. :)

Mario Chat / Re: Should Mario return to Sarasaland?
« on: February 21, 2006, 01:29:03 AM »
I voted that Daisy should be rescued, but I also think that Luigi should be the one saving her, not Mario (like he did nearly 20 years ago now).

We should revisit Sarasaland in either a psuedo-remake (replacing Mario with Luigi, updating the music, and.. other such things), or just a new game where Luigi has been called to Sarasaland to rescue Daisy.

Or like with toads, all the girls would be called "Humanette."

But not all female mushroom people are toadettes, just the one. Just like not all male mushroom people are toads.

I know it's short for "toadstool", but they can come up with something else to call the mushroom people. Just leave the named two alone.. :)
