Mario Chat / Mario's Tennis: Birdo...?
« on: April 07, 2007, 12:04:35 PM »
So after playing and watching some offsets of Mario's Tennis for the Virtual Boy, I made a rather fascinating discovery. Take a look at the character select screen here:

(Pardon the glitches, the emulator is incomplete.)

However, when in comparison to its hexadecimal equivalent, there's a notable string.
Starting from 0x7D694, there's a list of character names, all in the same order; Mario, Luigi, Princess, Yoshi, Toad, Koopa and DK. There's an extra name at the right, Cassarin, which apparently translates to Birdo. (Thanks, Chup)

What might this mean? I've read some FAQs and I see no mention of this "Cassarin", or Birdo for that matter at all.

I think I have a Mario Clash savestate at the last level with only a few enemies left, but never got around it.
Maybe I'm just afraid that after the last level, it restarts back from 1.

Wait a minute, AC debuted after SMS, so, no one could know that it was a cameo if AC wasn't out yet!

There was an Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo 64, unless I'm mistaken.

Eeeh, we're getting a bit offtopic here.

And you don't break apart ROMs.
GameCube discs do not follow the ISO standard, although a somewhat similar one called "GCM" that's some crazy acronym.
So there's no such thing as a GameCube ROM.

There's a program called BMDView that views the BMD models inside some GameCube games. The games thats models follow the BMD model standard are Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash and a [truck]load of others, too. What I basically did was snag a ZIP containing a bunch of BMD conversions to 3DS, the 3D Studio file format which is very common.
BMDs can be viewed and exported to 3DS with BMDView, yes, but you need to extract the GCM data files out from it. This requires another tool that I won't mention because I'm yet unaware of its legality.

When Toad said he can't fight Bowyer "because I left my bazooka at home, SHEESH!" (SMRPG)

What the...? I don't recall Toad saying that. You mean Mallow amirite?

I tried that once, but can't remember why it didn't work.
Aw nuts. It would've made a great easter egg or something.

I had an idea once.
Get to the sunshine isles level and keep killing the spinies that the Lakitu throws until you get 100 coins.

Mario Chat / Animal Crossing cameo in Super Mario Sunshine

While browsing the textures of the Delfino Airport 3D model, I found something interesting in the texture 01.

Does anyone recognize that dude between the male and the female Pianta? I'm not exactly sure but it somewhat resembles that one character from Animal Crossing whose name I don't know.
The real question is where is this texture piece in the game itself? If you own Super Mario Sunshine, go to the Delfino Airport and verify this.

I honestly don't give a hoop about SMB2 beta. The ROM is bound to be dumped someday, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday.
What I'd really like to see is some footage from the 1989 SMW beta.

Refresh my memory on this F-Zero and Star Fox cameo.
Hinopio's Inn-shop inside the volcano. There are F-Zero vehicles on the shelf.
No idea on Starfox though.

I'd like to see someone doing a one-level-speedrun on Tubular.

All speed runs are considered done when the player reaches a point where he must not press any buttons to proceed.
So yeah, as soon as you've hit Bowser's head with the MechaKoopa, you do not have to press anything anymore to get to the "The End" Screen, leading us to the conclusion that the run is over when the Sixth MechaKoopa hits Bowser.

Which is obviously impossible to reach in 5 minutes, unless a drastic shortcut is found.

DRX predicts there are some SMW beta carts leaked outside of the Nintendo world.
Their value may rise up to about 50 000, most likely.

Outrageous was easy because it gave you an opportunity to fly through the level.
Perhaps the only level which didn't, was Tubular. The one single most difficult level in the whole game.
