Why has Mario lost weight over the years?

You notice Mario lost weight? He was bloated in the beginning but now he's slim... sort of. His hat used to be tighter too. Lookie now. No more elastic.

Maybe he was fat in the begginning because when he was at Brooklyn, he used to eat at Grease-O-Burger <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. Then when he came to TMK, he went a diet of mushrooms and flowers, did daily jumping exercises, built muscles by using hammers, and the occasional brisk Yoshi Ride in the park, all to impress his new girlfriend, Princess Peach Toadstool.

Uh...I really don't think he's gotten thinner at all. He still has a huge gut. Maybe he seems thinner because he's decided to go for the baggy look.
