Author Topic: Strange thing in SMB 3.  (Read 3285 times)

I noticed something rather strange in Smb3. Mario and Luigi Have no gloves! It's not a big thing, but kinda stupid though. In the box art Mario's flying with gloves on his hands. But in the game that's no-no.

I think that's just because of the limit of colors each sprite can have in NES games.

I meant SNES. And Snes could have probably white color too.

It can have white, but it can only have a certain number of colors per sprite (I think it's four).

In the SNES version... they probably had flesh-colored hands for the same reason as NES. SNES sprites can have 8 colors, and they used them all up on fancy dithering of the flesh, red, and blue colors for Mario.

That was a joke.

No, he has a legitimate question because Mario had white gloves in the SMAS version of SMB/SMBTLL and SMB2, as well as SMW.

Did he have them in SMA4?

GBA sprites can have 16 colors, I think.

Note: They don't have white eyeballs in SMAS SMB3 either, while in SMB and SMB2 they do. Maybe they were lazy and just increased the color depth without really paying much attention to what colors were supposed to be?

Figures.  Act lazy with the best one in the bunch, and put tons of work into SMB2.

I don't give a cheesecake if there's gloves or not, I'll just play the cheesecakin' game. (Man cheesecake is a good replacement for bad words!)

I think it's strange too.

If you look closely at mario or luigi (NES SMB3)

You'll find that clothes is red, border/line is black, body is yellow.
In NES, it has many tiles, one tile has have 4 colors.
But mario use only Red, black and yellow, what's about last color?

The 4th "color" is transparent.
