Mario Chat / Super Mario World: Special World Superplay
« on: September 04, 2009, 09:07:28 PM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQpX8mEUjro

Basically, I established a condition for each level that made it much harder to complete (In most cases, small and ducking throughout the level).

And yes, I used LunarMagic to string all the levels together, because Windows Movie Maker was being stupid.

My personal favorite to watch is Way Cool (not using a single rope or platform, only one Cape to aid), but dang, that took forever. My fingers are still cramped from holding down G (run) and Y (spinjump) and repeatedly mashing F5 to rerecord.

Skip Mondo if you wish, as the "hold down" condition rendered me unable to leave the water until it receded, and it thusly took upwards of 2 1/2 minutes.

Mario Chat / Mario game guides: Deals or no deals?
« on: August 05, 2009, 10:28:58 PM »
So yeah, I've considered getting a few Mario game guides, and after searching via Ebay and Amazon, these are rough estimates for lowest Buy-it-Now price ranges from reputable users:

Super Mario All*Stars guide: $35-40 USD
Mario Kart Wii guide: $10-12 USD
Super Mario Galaxy guide: $10-12 USD (though I don't own the game, so I probably won't get it)

Are any or all of these worth it?

Mario Chat / Two small glitches in Paper Mario
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:48:06 AM »
You know how Mario briefly freezes after Spin Jumping (Ground-Pounding)?  If an enemy runs into Mario (without First-Striking) while he is in that position, it will often think that Mario performed a First Strike with a Spin Jump on the enemy.  Also, if you Spin Jump on one of the stone platforms in the Toad Town Tunnels, it will freeze for the same duration of time Mario does.

Not sure if this was worth mentioning or not...  also, every time I think I know everything about PM, something like this shows up.

No fooling.

Master Hand finally playable... insanity.  They'll have to ban him in tournaments.

I'd like to try out the all four players on the same team glitch too, though...

Forum Games / Only Mario Kart Wii...

Complete the sentence with one of MKWii's many ironic flaws.

Only Mario Kart Wii can make an A (or four consecutive first-places leading to an A) sound bad.

Mario Chat / Super Mario 64 - Max Coins?
« on: May 25, 2009, 01:32:51 PM »
Man, a lot of Super Mario 64 mania in the Mario chat, nowadays, eh?

After finally reaching the long-awaited goal of 2091 coins, I thoroughly scanned the Internet for glitches to allow more.
This is what I came up with:

255 coins in Whomp's Fortress, Wet-Dry World, Snowman's Land, and Tiny-Huge Island (though I'm not sure what the "piranha plant glitch" is.)

I don't get how any of these really work, but if someone was to get 255 coins in all these courses, the total number of coins would be:

2091 + (255 x 4) - (141 + 127 + 152 + 191) = 2500 coins!  Strange how even a number it comes out to...

Does anyone have any more information on these tricks?

Yes, I am that much of a nerd, I even played it at double-speed to make myself look better.  Hooray for HyperCam2.

So yeah, look in the video description for links to download Minesweeper X and the skin.

Nine tips to get much higher scores. Probably the most definitive and unique video I've uploaded thus far.  Also the fastest Youtube upload to date.

I warn you though, so you can see what you're up against: Link (My score's within 5000 of 2,000,000 points, btw; just a short hop to 7.5 mill, right?)

Game Help / Super Smash Bros. Stickers - What gives?
« on: April 10, 2009, 01:51:17 PM »
I've spent nearly 5000 coins in the coin launcher, done over 60 minutes of heavy-duty sticker factory play (not all at once, I know the sticker count resets), and collected quite a few random other stickers, all since I got my 625th sticker.  Nevertheless, none of this has gotten me ONE new sticker! This leads me to question if there are certain objectives that must be completed in order to be able to get the remaining 75 stickers.  However, the only challenges I haven't completed are clearing Boss Battles on Very Hard and Intense (grrrrr), collect 500+ trophies, collect all stickers (obviously), and "beat ____ with everyone" challenges!  Furthermore, I cleared the SSE at 100%, unlocked all of the SSE videos, collected over 400 trophies, and already completed [EDIT: 115] of the challenges.  Does anyone have any insights as to what I can do to unlock these last few dozen stickers?

Mario Chat / What gear do you use in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga?
« on: March 30, 2009, 05:51:59 PM »
For me, it depends largely on the area. For badges, though, I use the Mush Badge (A, AA) almost exclusively, unless I want a specific effect (Spiny-Killer, HP-up Hammer, etc.) For pants, I generally do ones with First Strike, Mario Follow, Mario Ahead, or DEF-Up effects (e.g. School Slacks, #1 Trousers, Scandal Jeans, Parasol Pants). I almost exclusively use the Bonus Ring and Great Force as well.

I'll never understand anyone who regularly uses the Tank/Sarge Badges.

Mario Chat / An error(s?) missed in the "Errata" page on TMK...
« on: March 29, 2009, 12:16:50 PM »
In the M&L: PiT guide, on page 20, the pictures indicating the "Baby Drill" and "Spin Jump" moves were switched.

Also, I'm not sure if NP guides count as errors, but in the NP NSMB guide on page 92, the picture for the "Return of the Phantom Hands" point about the World 7 Ghost House actually depicts a part of the World 7 Tower. This picture appears again in the correct location on page 95.

Video Game Chat / Funniest Brawl Moments
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:49:22 AM »
For me, it was when my friend and I had just unlocked Jigglypuff, and were both playing as her on the Shadow Moses Island stage. I had just missed him with Rest, so he charged the Roll move fully. Exactly when he hit me, the back wall of the stage was blown out, an it appeared that the Roll move hitting me caused it. It's kind of hard to explain, and would be nearly impossible to duplicate.

On a side note, the two of us have a heated Ness/Dedede rivalry going, and we often have some funny moments.

Mario Chat / Mario and Luigi: SS Damage Calculation - Need Help!
« on: March 15, 2009, 03:12:24 PM »
I'm still working on this, but I'm trying to figure out formulas (formulae?) that determine the damage Mario and Luigi do with jumps against enemies.

So far, it seems that for Mario's jump, the formula is .475*(Mario's POW) - .2*(enemy DEF);
Luigi's jump is roughly .4*(Luigi's POW) - .2*(enemy DEF);
and the first strike formula is exactly half of Luigi's jump, whatever it is.

These have little backing in data, and are based on three enemies with two very high and similar POW values (999 and 1023), so it's likely that these formulas are inaccurate.

I also plan to calculate jump counter formulas for each bro, and Hand Power attack powers, but Hammer attacks are more random (e.g. ranges from 500-700 damage at 999 POW on one enemy), so don't expect work on them.

As Excel only plots two-dimensional graphs, I did this work through trial and error. I may be able to perfect it slightly, but without more efficient methods, there's noI can do. If anyone has any information concerning this, or knows of a easier, more precise and accurate way to do it, could you let me know?

I also wonder if the formula is embedded somewhere in the game's ROM...

Here's what I've come up with so far in my data...

Mario Chat / MIT's Infinite Corridor bedecked with Mario scenery

Yes, I realize this is old, but this is some pretty cool stuff; I think this happened in 2005:

For me, Mix Flowers don't do it; although they can cause some massive damage, there is a limit to how fast you can physically respond. Trampolines and Copy Flowers never interested me much for bosses, anyway. With Pocket Chomps, however, it is quite easy to tell Mario and Luigi apart and respond accordingly, even after dozens of hits. I've killed every boss from the Shrooboid Brat onward in less than 3 turns with Pocket Chomps, causing over 2000 damage (with one item!) to the Elder Princess Shroob.

How about you guys?
