Mario Chat / Re: SMB3 VS. SMW
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:37:10 AM »
Slight edge to SMB3 for me, maybe with a nostalgia filter applied. I remember playing SMB3 with my cousins so very long ago. (So what if it was 1993.) That endgame music still makes me tear up a little, 16 years later. On an emulator.

I never had an SNES because mom kept saying "you have a NES, it still works" and wouldn't buy me the SNES. Or the N64. Or even a Game Boy. I do have a vague recollection of seeing SMW's 1-2 on an SNES set up for demo purposes at Kmart. Wow, that was a long time ago too!

My childhood! Where has it gone?

Go down the first Jar in world 5-2, and use the bomb to break out the floor beneath you. This takes you down to the bottom, where there are two plants and two Porcupos. Sometimes, for no reason, the right Porcupo will just keel over when you go down there! What causes this?

Here's what you do:

Go buy a real N64.
Go buy a real copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Fixed.

I lol'd.

Game Help / Conker's Bad Fur Day ROM for Mac
« on: August 18, 2009, 07:32:34 PM »
Has anyone been able to play Conker's Bad Fur Day on an iBook G4 or any other pre-Intel Mac? I've downloaded at least four ROMs of the game, and I'm using Mupen64. Each time, the "For Mature Audiences Only" warning and Nintendo logo load fine, but after that I get nothing but random, glitched polygons and garbled noise. The only other N64 emulator that runs on the Mac is Sixtyforce, whose website flat out states that BFD doesn't work on that emulator. I've also tried the ROM in .n64, .v64 and .z64 formats, and none worked on Mupen64.

Okay, I just found a 1-up glitch in level 1-3 of SMB3.

Around the midpoint of the level, you have the dark brown winged Goomba, like so:

Using the feather, stomp on him twice, then quickly fly over and stomp out his buddy, then fly over and stomp the Boomerang Brother, all without hitting the ground. If you do this right, the scores for the enemies will go 100-200-400-800-1UP. Yes, you heard me right, a 1UP off only five kills instead of 9 (100-200-400-800-1000-2000-4000-8000-1UP). Note that if you have the momentum to make it to the row of Goombas on the next screen, they'll be 2000 and 4000 if you hit them (so it goes 100-200-400-800-1UP-2000-4000-8000-1UP).

I think this glitch may be due to the fact that killing a Boomerang Brother gets 1000 points.

Game Help / Aero the Acro-Bat 2 still not working
« on: July 03, 2008, 09:21:29 AM »
Back in February I posted a problem I had with the Aero the Acro-Bat 2 game here: http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=11367.msg499485#msg499485

My problem is that after most of the levels, the game will load only the music but not the picture, and no matter what I do all I get is a black screen with music playing. I have downloaded several ROMs and they all give me this same glicth. How could so many ROMs all be messed up like this?

You're right, it's first three levels, my bad.

I don't think it's a glitch in the ROM, either, as I've tried three ROMs and they all do the same thing.

I got it to work once, but then lost all my lives. Now it won't work... AGAIN. What gives?

Okay, I've just finished the first two levels of Aero the Acro-Bat 2, and I've met Batasha (who is cute, by the way). I'm then given the password to Boardin Zone, and... nothing. I just get a black screen with music. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in my ROM or emulator?

Game Help / Re: glitches/cheats

Here's a glitch I found on the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB2J: In level 9-2, when Lakitu is throwing Spinys at you underwater, sometimes the Spinys get stuck in the pipes. I've never had this happen on the Famicom rom, just the SNES version.

Also, in SMB1/SMB2J, if you jump straight into a pipe, and hold down B while doing so, Mario/Luigi will "wiggle" as he goes down the pipe.

A couple more:

* One time when I was playing Super Mario Advance 4 vesrion of SMB3, I hit a Starman and an enemy at the same time. This made Mario fall off the screen and die, but he was BLINKING like a Starman.

* In a similar vein, my cousin was playing SMB once (this was about 10 years ago), and I remember him hitting an enemy and a mushroom at the same time. The game made some weird garbled amalgamation of the "get mushroom" sound and the "dying" sound.

Game Help / Accessing Level A-1 on Famicom version of SMB2J
« on: August 18, 2007, 08:31:15 PM »
I'm playing the Japanese Super Mario 2 on a ROM of the Famicom version. What I would like to know is, how do I get the stars to show up on the main title screen so I can access levels A-1 and up? If I quit the emulator after beating 9-4, it just starts a new game every time I load up, with no stars on the title screen.

Game Help / Super Mario All-Stars Lost Levels (3-4)
« on: August 17, 2006, 09:01:24 AM »
I am stuck in world 3-4 in the Super Mario All-Stars "Lost Levels". And yes, I know this very website has a path, but I'm still at a loss. I have attached a crude partial map of the level. Point (A) is a jump that I cannot make without bumping my head; and once I fall down I can't get back up to the top.

Problem solved! It turns out that it was set to activate Auto Fire everytime I had A, B, and Right held down!

I set the keyboard repeat rate to the longest possible rating, so that if I hold down A, it should be 10 seconds before I get another A. And I'm still getting "jumpjumpjump" instead of "JUUUUUUUMP!" (I have spacebar set for A.)

Also, another problem I seem to have - my jumps don't have a lot of "oomph" to them. I was told that if I hold down the A I get a stronger jump, but all that does is give me a bunch of tiny jumps.

Game Help / Super Mario World troubles
« on: August 09, 2006, 09:03:50 PM »
First, I have noticed that there are several parts of the game where I can't jump over a wall without spin-jumping (and therefore losing Yoshi). Is this intentional?

Also, I am stuck in Morton's Castle. There are some jumps that I cannot make even WITH spin-jumping (and some that I can juuuuust barely make at all). Specifically,

PS. I'm playing the game on SNES9x, an Emulator for the Mac.

This image marks the specific jumps i cannot make at all: http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/cactusbob2k2/smworld1.jpg (I can't directly attach the image, as it gives me the "image hosted by Angelfire" pic.)
