What is with other video game mascots? I think Mario is the best of them all. Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Pokemon...Bah! What rejects they'll be soon, is for us to find out(Pokemon is already starting to be one). Mario will always be my favorite video game character.

Make sure to write back to me!

Mario is the emperor of video games!  I like "Pokémon," but it doesn't even come close to "Mario."  My friend said that a vote in some magazine found Laira Croft from "Tomb-Raider" to be the most popular video game character, but I strongly disagree.  A lot of other video game characters are rip-offs of Mario.  Not that I need to name any names (*coughbanjokazooiecough*).

yeah, Banjo-Kazooie REALLY ripped off of
Mario. Sonic thinks he's cool, so does Crash,
but Mario kicks all theirs!

He couldn't last for two darn
minutes before caving in! -Me.

Okay, I will not blow my top on this one, because it is LOGICAL.

Let's look at the ups and downs of each 'mascot'-

Mario- Pro- Widly popular with childer and adults, has a LONG series of games, 3 cartoon series, 1 movie and 'promoter of Dolphin'

Con- A bit TOO popular, so many games, 1 movie (Good or bad..)

Crash- 4 good games, Funny commercials (IMO), Mascot of PSX

Con- Not that many people know him, advertisments (Insulting Nintendo. I liked it and hated it.), Dosen't talk

Sonic- Pros- Most recognized, 3 cartoon series, loads of sucessful games, the Chao

Cons- Sonic Underground, hates Mario

Lara Croft- Pros- Widly popular, boobs, 5 games (1, 2, 3, 4 and GBC), smart, strong

Cons- Boobs, 5 games, guns, boobs

Personally, I think They're all great. Don't get me started with Pikachu...

Just wanted to write a little extra message here(I'd forgetten about Lara Croft!).

To Mega 4...
I have the Guiness Book of World Records 2000 edition, and it says in there the most popular FEMALE video game character was Lara Croft. The most popular male character was Mario(Yah!).

To VelvetDark007...
I know that each character has pros and cons, but I still like Mario the best(by the way, I remember seeing 2 of the Sonic TV shows). And also, yes I'm aware Lara Croft has nice breasts.

Sorry if I mixed up on your names.

In my opinion, Crash cannot be compared to Mario. No way. Mario is in a totally different league than Crash. Mario has a universal style, the style of pure gameplay. Crash is a weak attempt to grab attention by dazzling a few stoned gamers with idiotic and somehow "cool" commercials.

Laura Croft? Gimme a break! Her games are RUBBISH, her character is WEAK, and she will never be what Mario's always been. While technological advances mean more in-depth gameplay for Mario, they mean more realistic boob-bouncing for Laura. Somehow, I don't understand how a rendered misporpotioned body can be enough to make someone buy a game. Pathetic.

Pokemon, on the other hand, is not trying to steal Mario's mascot spot. Nintendo knows the reality of Pokemon, it's a big craze now and they'll milk it while they can. However, Mario is their real basis for good games and they know it.

Turtle Tek- That's why Nintendo has Joanna Dark. ;-> (About Lara)

Yes, what Nintendo uses Next-Gen systems to up-the-ante in gameplay for Mario, Link, Kirby, ect, Eidos uses for boob job money for Lara Croft and Hana Tsu-Vachel (Need I mention, Fear Effect Retro Helix?)... and yet they use Next-Gen stuff to up Soul Reaver 2....

I'm going cross-eyes talking about it.

Bowsa- No, you didn't get the names mixed up.

I agree with TurtleTek , there is no replacement for Mario.

After being around for twenty years, Mario has become pretty well known. At one time, his face was absolutely everywhere. He had four TV series, a movie, and loads of crap like action figures and water squirters. Mario is by far the best. Sonic might come in second because of his speed and attitude. Link and Pikachu may be tied for third. Link shows an epic game of amazing proportions and Pikachu is, well, Pikachu. At the moment, he`s as big as Mario was. Crash doesn`t even compare to the others. I don`t think that Banjo-Kazooie copies Mario. Saying that is like saying that Donkey Kong Country copies Super Mario World.

Does anybody remeber the "reject" mascots? Like Bubsy (I liked his first two games), Aereo the Acrobat, Zool, The big purple head guy, Captain N, and that one guy whose game was never played?
Actually, they don't really add up to Mario...And the TV stations in my area won't play Sonic Underground.

Hey!  Bubsy is cool!  I haven't played "Bubsy 2," but it's on sale for $9.50 and I was wondering if it was as good as the original.  I know this doesn't have much to do with "Mario," but I'd really like to know.

IT had it's good moments, but it lacked the charm of the first one...

I DO like Mario, but I'll admit, I'm a NEW Mario fan. Sonic is pretty cool, I think cooler then Mario. I mean, look at Mario!: He's a Fat Plumber with a DINOSOUR!!(Sorry for the insult)I like Sonic better: His new game, Sonic Adventure, isn't a rip-off of past games being put in 3D.

Note: Sorry for the insults, but Mario 64 has hardly anything new.

Another reason: The Cartoons: The Mario cartoons where bad. Sonic had 2 bad cartoons in many's opinion, but 1 standing against 3 weaker is the 1 winning!! Did Mario ever have his own official WEBSITE?! Or his own ANIME!? What about Gigapet-like things?

Okay, Sonic MAY have used past elements from the past, but hardly. Sega did a pretty good job on their games and systems, and so did the 'Big N', but Sony didn't do good. Okay, I'm getting off-topic here.

Sorry for insults.

How on earth could anyone in their right mind say that SM64 didn't introduce any new concepts?  It was the first frickin' Nintendo game in 3D for crying out loud!  How can a pioneer follow in others' footsteps?

Sorry for the insults.
