On upgrading- I guess you mean which area you should choose to give an extra boost to whenever you level up.  It is best to check all three and see which one offers the largest bonus.  (for the magic points, add the two bonuses together).  Just choose the largest bonus.

I have always liked the storylines in the Zelda series better, especially with the two installments on the N64.  The Zelda story is one that has only gotten better with time.
