Mario Chat / Whatever Happened to Wario's Castle? And other retcons!

A topic about seemingly retconned things in the Mario series, that vanished/changed without explanation.

My first observation is the topic's title, of course- Wario's Castle was last seen fully repaired at the good ending in Wario World. But in the WarioWare games, and even in Wario: Master of Disguise, Wario's living in a common house. Did his castle just dissapear or something? Or was Wario World's bad ending canon instead? That castle appeared in Wario Land 2, 4, and Wario World- It was hardly a one-shot forgettable location like the ambiguous country of Mario Land from Super Mario Land 2. Yet the castle vanished with no explanation.

BAH. According to internet sources all over, I can get these unlockables.

Star – Using all of the team's players' special shots in one match

I did this, in tournament mode, and I didn't get the Star Ball after finishing the tournament and winning each round.

Gold – 5000 points in profile

This in itself is the problem- How do these mysterious profile points work? They don't seem to be based on GAME points at all. Help, please.

I just don't understand how this works.

Can 1-ups really exist? Bring you back to full health yea mabey but from the dead?

Additionally, the very similar Life Shrooms are mentioned in Paper Mario 2. The old Puni woman wants one as a precaution. So yes, apparantly 1-Up Mushrooms and Life Shrooms are able to revive in the canonical story.

Very indirectly through Nintendo Power.

In an older issue, NP listed a bunch of interesting Nintendo fansites, one of them being Super Mario Bros. Headquarters (http://smbhq.com), and I checked them out. TMK was linked to from there, and I've been regularly visiting the site since then, which was around 2001, I believe.

Wario, most definetely. Though more in the sense that I'm really careful with my money, not in the sense that I charge around attacking pirates.

I got it a few days ago. The game is okay, but it's honestly not terribly different from the N64 version from what I can tell so far.

I don't really like the new voices at all either.

Still, it's a fun game.

A Bowser platformer would be awesome. Take the basic PM2 Bowser stages concept, make more complex stages, and release it! His enemies could be any one of the various secondary Mario villains(X-Nauts, etc.)

Though I suppose we're sorta getting something close to that with Super Paper Mario.

DKC didn't lack pirates actually- They just weren't K. Rool's. Kaptain Skurvy played the part of a minor recurring villain, and was piratey as they come.

As for anime, I don't think it can be called good or bad. That's like saying "cartoons" are dumb. Some are good, some aren't. It's better to judge on an individual basis than to slam an entire country's selection of cartoons.

Both Sonic cartoons? There were actually five total.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (Zany slapstick, had the robots Scratch and Grounder)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Serious weird plot about Robotnik roboticizing people)
Sonic Underground (Same as above, but Robotnik was more laid back, and Sonic fought him with music. Weird show.)
Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie(2-episode OVA in Japan, was released on VHS/DVD here)
And then there was that Sonic X. Plagued by kiddy sidekick syndrome to the max. At least Dr. Eggman was awesome.

Yeah, but you gotta love the Koopalings.

True. But the overall feel of SMBSS felt more... "Mario."

TAOSMB3 domesticated Bowser a little too much. I like the Koopa Kids, but it felt like they really took a lot of King Koopa's spotlight. The SMW cartoon had cave people, and this makes me very sad.

I have to say with complete honesty and no bias that the Super Mario Bros. Super Show really is my favorite cartoon of all time. I watched it as often as I could as a kid, and could never get enough. The other two Mario toons were nice, but they lacked that special something the SMBSS had.

I've also spent many a weekday afternoon watching Inspector Gadget.

As anime goes, I find myself a fan of Lupin III and Case Closed in particular.
