Whenever I try to change the forum theme, I end up with a page that says this - "GIF89a÷¤¶¤ôwkLôiwønbg4uaÀ‰© oV---1243------3421---."

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

That's what you get for trying to change the theme.

There is only one Look and Layout Preference.

I just tried it for curiosity's sake, and doing so produced nothing but the fabled Little Red X:

I like switching it up every once and a while just to read posts in different styles.

Never had a problem with the switched layouts, other than some buttons not present in other styles (the spoiler tag is the most obvious one). Seeing people with avatars is pretty cool.
As a game that requires six friends, an HDTV, and skill, I can see why the majority of TMK is going to hate on it hard.

Alright, does anyone have a serious answer for me, or will my hopes and dreams fade into obscurity?

I'm considering switching layouts just to be a rebel, and I'm getting the same problem. So now that a popular member with influence has this problem hows bout we fix it.

I wish there was an easy way to use this forum's theme on all the Windows and Linux machines I use.  I've tried several things, but nothing works perfect.

Now that I'm using Firefox, I can see the same problem Turtlekid has.

Fix it if you want, or not. I just wish I could see my avatar aside from my login box at the top.

Yeah, nothing could possibly be worse than being stuck with this cheery, well-lit, avatar-displaying forum scheme.

You can still see users' avatars from their profile page when using the default theme, but whatever. Reading messages is infinitely more entertaining when reading them in the supposed voice of their respective posters' image. In particular, viewing Mr. Wiggles' posts in tandem with his avatar is nice because it lets me imagine that girls inhabit this forum.

So highlight the text you're reading and you'll still be able to see avatars.

I don't think it was so much a bump as it was a reminder to the mods that the issue hasn't yet been resolved.

Or are you trying to say that the default theme is better?  To which I reply: dude, not everyone has the same taste in color schemes and avatars.

To be specific, this is, or was, the "change theme" page. Seeing as it doesn't work in Firefox or IE, it's not a browser-based problem.

I'm biased towards the current default theme to the point of trying to make other websites look similar, but I would not object to small images below forum members names.  It's the huge blinking GIF signatures that annoy me to the point of ignoring the forums that use them.

I actually really hate the aforementioned GIF signatures as well; give me a witty quote over the flashy animations anyway.  But that's a moot issue, since images still aren't allowed in signatures with the better-lit theme.

I do, however, like seeing avatars under the names of posters.  For one thing, it helps to differentiate between people with similar usernames  (<+Man-Frog> the worst part is that I keep getting Tv_Themes and Trainman confused); for another, and I believe this point has already been touched on in this thread, avatars can add personality to the user.  Without avatars, all you've got in the way of individuality are the custom titles, which, while a cool feature, are involuntary (and thus possibly not as reflective of the User's actual personality).

Let's just admit it: the change layout page is never going to be fixed. Unless someone gets MacGyver, MacGruber, McGarnicle, and The Guyver on the case.
